I don't know what to say about the penalties.

In 2013, rex Ryan's jets finished top 10 in penalties against.

In 2017, Todd Bowles' jets finished top 5 in penalties against.

In 2020 Adam gase's jets finish top 10 in penalties against.

In 2023 Robert Saleh's jets are leading the league in penalties against.

In this time we've changed, all defensive personnel, all offensive personnel, all coaching staff, all head office staff, jerseys, logo (kinda).

What do we do?

Have you figured out yet the league hates us and nomatter who coaches us the refs have no respect for the Jets and do not officiate us like a conventional team

How long was the NFL allowing Jets qb's to be brutalized on hits every other qb gets a personal foul flag on. Finally it got too blatant and they had to call roughing the passer on Jets opponents again. If it went on another full year how on earth was the league going to explain one team where it was perfectly ok to commit RTP against

we can complain about penalties and certainly guys like Becton need to be shot out of a cannon into the sun

but there have been many cases in league history where the team that committed the most penalties also won the super bowl that season. KCC and LAR are recent examples

the problem with the Jets is the offense is so trash they can't convert 3rd and 2 they can barely convert 3rd and 7 and 3rd and 13 might as well be 3rd and 40

the chiefs get penalized, they are 3rd and 18 and gain 25. the Jets rarely do this so the penalties hurt more

He wasn’t a disciplinary coach either.
The best guys 'command'.... They command respect because of past performance, they demand excellence to maintain that pedigree and the players buy in to be part of the greatness.

Inmates running the asylum never works unless you are in the corrupt NBA where five guys make up a team.

So pumped it’s confirmed that everyone is back no matter what next year anyways.

But of course - it was all going so well and we were one of the Superbowl favorites.

Until the games started ... ;-)

To be fair, though, we just played on a short week.

Just gave me this funny image of a Jets assistant handing Saleh a cue card like this:

Talking points after latest blowout loss on national TV:

1) Short week.   If anyone follows up that it was also a short week for the Browns explain that they didn’t have a travel day.

2) Lack of continuity.   Be sure to reference that this is the 14th different iteration of our starting offensive line.  If someone follows up with anything like Cleveland has also had similar issues roll your eyes and ask what do you want me to do, turn over the podium?  Then announce there will be no changes to the OL coaching staff as a further act of defiance.

3) Skill position injuries.  Tread carefully here but slip in that you are starting a QB that wasn’t on the opening day roster.   Imply that it was either the GM or owner who wanted to draft Zach Wilson and that everything would be different if they had just listened to you three years ago.

Penalties:  be sure to bring up how difficult it is to overcome “self inflicted wounds” in this league, especially when you are as injured as we are.   Be sure to make everyone understand penalties are just a thing that happens and do not reflect a team that is very poorly coached.

Topics not to bring up:

1) that Joe Flacco could have been signed by you but he was too old/slow and wouldn’t have played as well for us as he did in shredding our championship caliber defense.

2) that despite playing a backup qb, a team missing its best receiver, a team that lost its second best receiver, a team that lost its best running back, we somehow still gave up over 300 yards in the first half.

3) if they ask why with all of the missing players referenced above did the team not make the obvious adjustment to cover the tight end who had over 100 yards in the first 8 minutes of the game again roll your eyes and calmly explain that that is not how we do things here.   We have a system, it works, and again ask what are you supposed to do, turn over a podium.

4) point out things were better in the second half    Do not point out that the reason for this was because the opponent was no longer trying

Then thank everyone, wish them a happy holidays, and walk out being sure to hide the condescending smirk on the way off the stage knowing that your best work has already yielded the only victory that matters, another year on the job.

I would honestly not be surprised if at least some of this is true.   Maybe not the cue card but I wouldn't be shocked if there were discussions like this.

It's clear Woody needs to up his annual 'contribution' to the NFL Refs Association
