Yes, but it’s what the two teams  did differently after colossal misses. 49ers invested even more into original pick  and cut bait ASAP and  the Jets kept their mistake and started him on and off for 3 seasons. It’s like the 49’ers divorce their wife and started banging a super model in two weeks. The Jets moved into the basement of the home they shared with their ex and cried themselves to sleep at night listening to her bang her new man upstairs.

We cut bait w/ Zach after 2 years as well.  Unfortunately, Rodgers got hurt and we had to go back to him.

The Jets did everything right with Zach Wilson.  It just didnt work out.  Its not anyone's fault.  Its just life.  Some things work, some dont.  Move on.

GFY. We did NOT have to go back to him.

Based on the roster at the time of Rodgers' injury, we sort of had to. The big F up was not signing a true #2 QB in the off-season which would have limited the chances of seeing Wilson starting games significantly. I truly think that Douglas thought that Rodgers wouldn't miss significant time and he could get by with Zach as #2. This was a bet he lost big time.

Disagree. They should have made him the #2 his rookie year like the Niners did with an equally terrible (and inexperienced ) QB Trey Lance.

Wilson will get reg season game time this year sooner or later, he sill suck but he will get a chance.

Nix and Stidham stink, payton has zero loyalty to QBs.

lol no one is entrusting any meaningful game action to Zach Wilson ever again.

Jets fans were calling for a legitimate backup QB all summer last year and @Joe W. Namath, you know the guy who quit as captain 4 plays in, is like “what could we possibly have done???”

Can’t make this up.

Who cares who the backup was.  The season ended the minute rodgers went down.

What did you want to see?   The Jets win 9 games cause they had a decent backup?  That is even a worse case scenario.

If a backup has to play the majority of your season, you are screwed.  It is better we won 7 then won 9.

This I have to agree with. The goal is to win the SB and it's extremely rare for an NFL team to lose their starter and have their backup take them to a SB victory. We weren't winning dick with Wentz, Minshew, Mills or whoever else they could have signed.

The Jets went 7-10, with four of the ten losses coming by a combined 19 points. A decent backup probably gets us into the playoffs.

All things considered I agree with what the Jets did for back up QB in 2024, even if Woody said at the ESPY’s that he did not.  That was moronic.

With a better OL and OC, even Zach could have won more games last year.  A strong roster and coaching got Mark Sanchez to the AFFCG two years in a row even if it was realized that, after you had to pay him and gut the roster, he could not carry the team on his own.

With the roster the Jets have in 2024, it was worth overpaying Tyrod Taylor to back up.

That means nothing.  Teams were barely trying to score on us knowing they just needed to play safe, not turn the ball over and they would beat us cause we could not score.

No.

They should have brought in real QB competition from the jump instead of essentially pre-anointing him as their day 1 starter from the moment he was drafted.

There were countless other egregious mistakes as well, including allowing a talented young OC in LaFleur to take the fall for ZW’s miserable inability to resemble an NFL QB.

Now making the playoffs isn’t good enough lol

So if the Jets make the playoffs this year and losing the first game you will be happy? Yeah right I didn't think so.

Nope, not with Rodgers under center. We are supposed to be a SB contender right?

I would have preferred to win 9/10 games and watch a playoff game, then 7 and get the better pick. Were you rooting against the Jets week 2 onward because you didn’t want to see a one and done?

which cause us to be unable to lie about the miraculous progress he made last year and be subject to the low low price of 2 chiclets, 3 tire irons and a greased monkey in trade value for Zackie poo

If the Jets had drafted what looked like a franchise guy in Brock Purdy in 22' the chances of ZW seeing the field again after Purdy got his shot were slim to none and probably would have been shown the door for a 4th-5th round pick at the time.

It's extremely easy to make those decisions when you've got your guy.

In that case - why didn't the Jets trade away Zach Wilson when they acquired Aaron Rodgers?

Whiffing on a # 2 overall pick is bad enough.  Continuing to give that sunk cost more opportunities to tank your season again and again is unforgivable.  You have to be willing to move on quickly....or at least hedge your bets a little....when its clear the guy you drafted high isn't any good.  Handing him the unquestioned QB1 job for 2 years and then the unquestioned QB2 job in year 3 were, as I said, unforgivable decisions.

And these decisions were easily mitigated by bringing in a decent veteran option, of which there were numerous and were named on this very board.  Jacoby Brissett or Gardner MInshew gets us in the playoffs last season.

No but I was a realist. I knew they were going nowhere once Wilson went down. And you might want to check with the other doomsayers who wanted the Jets to lose every game to get the higher pick.

First honest competition for a QB job in Zach’s life and he’s getting boat raced.

No way what???  No one could have predicted this.
