Jets May Want a Little Rice on the Side

The Giants aren't the only New York area football team with an eye on the recently released Simeon Rice.

According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, the Jets have reached out to Tom Condon, Rice's agent, about possibly signing his client. Although no meeting has been scheduled, the Jets may opt to catch-up with Rice following his visit with the Giants on Monday.

Rice suffered a shoulder injury last season that limited him to only eight games. Statistically, it was the worst year of his career and the Buccaneers felt it was time to move on. Rice, on the other hand, felt disrespected and vowed that he'd be back with a vengeance.

Although Rice may be getting older, I'd be hard-pressed to believe his skill diminished after only one bad year. Some team is going to get lucky with this guy, especially now that he's playing with a chip on his shoulder.

who here (besides me) thinks he ends up in New England?

I would be shocked if he wound up in NE. If anything they need depth at ILB. Colvin and Vrable have been playing OLB for a long time. Why bring in a project?

If we did sign Rice, which LB's (assuming he is recruited as one) make the team?

Maybe take him and drop Barton if Harris looks ready steps his game up? I like Barton, but that would probably be the ideal scenario.

Barton and Harris are inside guys. IF they go after Rice it will be Bowens who doesn't make the cut. They are both kind of tweener 4-3 DE/pass rush specialists. I can't see Rice lining up much without his hand in the dirt. I think they look at him as a luxury and may make a modest offer in case they can get a steal. I doubt they have any serious interest.

Also, it'll be basically a free visit since he'll already by in to see the Giants. There probably is an AFC East team interested if the Jets are leaking interest. I find it kind of funny that the article feels it's "hard to believe" his skills have diminished after one bad year. How many NFL players improve at the age of 33?

Rice I think can a still get at the QB-something we need to upgrade- I would take a chance on him, at the right price.

improve in pass rushing? don't be ridiculous, we have Kimo, which is more than enough.

:rl:

He got credit for a sack last year... everyone busted through (except him) and got tied up around the QB... the Kimo (who was still 5 yards upfield) came running in to knock the QB down... lol

Well not quite. But now if we put out Kimo and Shlegel? Wow. We can just bench the other 9 guys and let those two unleash hell's fury on opposing offenses.

Sadly Schlegal cant hold Kimos jock... at least Kimo was an NFL starter at one point in his career and won a SB... Schlegal cant even crack the ST roster...
