SoFlaJets
we sucked and Vinny was showing he was done and a lot of Jets fans especially on the boards were all clamoring for Herman Edwards to make the switch to his 2nd year heir apparent QB of the future. Some of us were talking about wearing bags on our heads back then to games at the stadium-it was bad and it was ugly-Herm did the right thing back then and Chad got his start against KC-I was there that day-he almost won it but Tony Gonzo and Priest Holmes were too much for us.Will Eric Mangini do the right thing FOR US, THE FANS??? Herm did...

SeniorFlaJet
Actually Herm took out Vinny the game before when they were playing in Jacksonville. Vinny was overthrowing and bouncing balls all over the place in the first half. In the second half he started Chad. I was there and I believe some of the guys on the board were there also. Sperm Edwards
Testaverde got injured less with over 57 minutes left in the game after throwing four passes.
docdhc
Did Chad have a better arm back then? He never was strong armed but I thought he could make throws that he just can't make anymore.
SeniorFlaJet
Testaverde got injured less with over 57 minutes left in the game after throwing four passes. I always thought that he wasn't that hurt it was just a way to save face because Herm took him out. He was throwing some pretty decent balls on the sideline while Chad was in there. Sperm Edwards
Did Chad have a better arm back then? He never was strong armed but I thought he could make throws that he just can't make anymore. I remember reading somewhere that his NFL arm was never as good as his college arm & a major reason for that (in addition to his slow initial progress in 2000-2001) was b/c he screwed up his arm/shoulder as a rookie in camp trying to have a throwing-for-distance competition with Testaverde. No way of knowing if he sustained permanent damage; it seems unlikely. But since it's relevant to what you wrote I thought I'd put this out there. Seems to me after a killer senior season, if he had even a semi-strong arm he'd have gone higher than #22 or whenever it was we picked him. lancemehl
you know what you're right it was 2002 I get the point, though, good post. It was 3rd year, but he was also the "best QB in the draft" picked 16 overall. We REALLY wanted Chad. I love Chad, if nothing else for being a class act and a winner(sometimes lol) in NY, but we simply MUST see if our Second Round, gun slinging QB is worth anything before we go to the draft board. I swear, I hope Kellen Clemens is all they say he is and more, I hope that 4th quarter where he threw too hard for Justin was The Real Kellen. Then we could get the best NT in the draft, or else we start looking at QB's.

Marshall wasn't on the map until Randy moss and he was the guy throwing it. But dam Vinny! Middle age crisis, he's gotta throw for distance with a rookie. He never was too smart. And I think we're both wrong & he went 18th. Others have slid more than that. But - as someone who does/did NOT follow Marshall football - I thought his senior season (his best season) was after Moss was already on the Vikings. Mangini needs to get his sh!t backtogether or it will only enhance my gut feeling that Mangini will be going back to the gaytriots once mumbles quits. I know we're all quick to jump all over Chad but the plain fact remains that this heartless version of a Jets (supposed) defense can't stop ANYBODY, and are (is?) the biggest problem we have

#27TheDominator
Yep, 18th. I'm not sure how much the Jets "wanted him" because they picked not one but two defensive lineman before they picked him. Funny year for qbs, the next one picked was Carmazzi from Hofstra in the third. The only other real players were Brady and Bulger in the sixth. Separated by the immortal Spergon Wynn. Vinny got hurt in the Jacksonville game and Chad came in and led the team to 3 second half points then at 1-4 got the start at home against Kansas City. Kellen should have the start Sunday against Philly, but I fear he will not start until Chad is hurt again or until we have 7 loses.

Barton
See, if we didnt make the playoffs last year the switch to Clemens would have already been made. But nooooo, we had to make the playoffs, making Chads season look better than the mediocrity that it was, and now we are stuck with him for a few more weeks. Damn Jets. The revisionist history of the Jaguars game with Vinny getting benched after the first half was over. He didn't get benched. He got knocked out of the game on the Jets' 2nd possession that began with 13 & a half minutes remaining in the first quarter. I don't hold it against you. It was before you were born, right? No Sperm is right....I remember this because I was a huge Vinny fan at time and didnt think Chad should be starter at the time- especially since he didnt get the Jets in endzone at all that day....he proved me wrong...I hope if and when Kellen comes in he proves all the Clemens supporters/ or is some of your cases Pennington haters right.... (As I was writing this I noticed the eerily similar circumstances with 02 and 07) Game Vinny left in after getting slammed to ground and walked off field holding throwing shoulder if i remember correctly - http://www.usatoday.com/sports/scores102/102272/20020929NFL--JACKSONVIL0.htm If anything 2002 taught me is...one- I ****!n love the Jets...but I already knew that....two- no player should blind you to what the ultimate prize for the Jets organization and thier entire fan base which is another superbowl championship! Lets go Jets this week against Philly at home!
