That is a guy the Rangers need, even at 50% out on the ice. Jagr is playing like a man possessed and Henrik is standing on his head. Seriously? Crosby and Malkin are big parts of the future of the NHL. Crosby doesn't dive. He gets hooked and tripped and interfered with because most players cannot skate with him. Shanahan got away with one in the front of the net. For every penalty called for someone doing something illegal to Crosby, there are 2-4 penalties NOT being called. Malkin, I don't know what he was thinking, and haven't read any of his quotes, but there is no excuse for that. Of course, this was the first time he's ever done something like that, so it isn't like there is a pattern for it. You have to remember these guys are in their very early 20s and still young and under a microscope for everything they do. You don't hear either one complain about it and you hear more praise for them because of it. As much you whine and complain about preferential treatment, don't sit there and tell me you wouldn't want either of those two guys on your team.

First of all you can not compare hockey of the past to today's game, the NHL is a shell of itself.

No the players you mentioned did not dive every time they were tapped or sneezed on, like allot of players do today, they did not embelish and flop to the ice like Cindy does.

Yes, it certainly helps. But you also have to ask yourself, is there any reason to believe the Wings wouldn't have beat them even if all those players were back? Franzen had TWO hat tricks in this series. They have a 3 solid defensive pairings who are stifling, and they have been constantly applying pressure in the offensive zone throughout the playoffs, peppering Theodore and Ellis with shots. The Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom line is easily one of the best lines in the game. Add the fact that Ozzie has been playing out of his mind and this is a tough team to beat.

Injuries are something you deal with as a playoff team. You either overcome them or you succumb to them. The Wings defensive corps was riddled with injuries last season, but in the end, they still lost because they didn't play as good all around as the Ducks did.

The trap obviously wasn't "ruining" the NHL because the ratings are lower now than when the 95 devils were trapping all the time. The ratings are the best judge of how the sport is doing.
