Antrel Rolle is afraid of the New Meadowlands Stadium turf according to the New York Post.

Two days after Giants teammate Domenik Hixon tore his anterior cruciate ligament during the first football drills on the new field, Rolle told ESPN.com the turf needs to be checked out.

"I don't know what it was," the safety said. "My feet were burning at the bottom on the turf. I was slipping on each and every play. It just didn't feel good to me at all. I can't lie to you about that. I am not one to really complain or make excuses or anything but they should definitely look into that as far as playing on that field in the future during the season."

Rolle said he watched Hixon get hurt and told the website: "He didn't make a cut or anything. It just got caught in the turf."

Rolle wasn't the only Giants player to voice concern over the playing surface at the new $1.6 million.

"I thought it was real slippery," wide receiver Steve Smith said. "We were all slipping and stuff. Hopefully it settles in when more people do stuff on it."

The Vikings might have known that the Giants would lose Domenik Hixon for the season.

Court documents filed by the team in a lawsuit involving the Metrodome cite "an NFL study that found the rate of anterior cruciate ligament injuries is 88 percent higher in games played on FieldTurf than in games played on grass."

Hixon tore his ACL without contact in the first football practice on the FieldTurf at New Meadowlands Stadium. He is out for the season.

According to the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal, the company that runs the Metrodome "rejected FieldTurf

I forget how many teams play their home games there.

Exactly.

Playing 20 games on a grass field is a disaster. That's why the Giants & Jets got rid of it.

Plus, that "study" cited by the Post is scientifically disingenuous. It has been reported before.

It compared grass fields (which there are about 4 or so) to all Turf fields which are over 20.

So guess what? There will naturally be more injuries on Turf than grass because a far greater number of games are played on Turf.
