Turner is one of the really interesting players on the bubble. he was Sanchez's go to guy at USC. I watched him play 2 preseasons with the Fish. He was horrible. Looked like he was never on a football field before. The OP is right he has looked pretty good so far this year.

Read last week that the Jets are only going to carry 5 WR's (we'll see) if that's true there is a problem. There are a few excellent ST players for that spot that have played well enough to make the team. Personally at 6'5" i would go with Turner incase Plax comes up limping. Suspect Westy might have a bit more influence with Rex then me. We'll see how much

Pat is a solid player, not flashy or a big name. He played well vs us, not yet a household name. He kinda plays in obscurity to me. Yet, im very interested in him. I have a gut feeling that after a few 4-5wide sets, he will instill himself in our offense on a more regular basis. He has tremendous upside, not to mention great size and speed. He could turn out to be a bigger version of Jaycho. Apparantly the FO sees his potential and I for one, look frwrd to watching him develope his confidence, and trust his coaching and abilities. I believe we have a sleeper/late bloomer in this guy, and he will make a major difference for us as we put together this squad for our Super Bowl run........Go Jets!!!! :box:

Didn't have a great night. That TD pass wasn't a bad attempt, but when Holmes went to the lockers they moved Payne into the slot. Turner doesn't give anything on special teams which hurts. It'll be interesting to see what they do @ WR.

TE will be another interesting spot. Keller is in and Mulligan probably too being the blocker and he caught everything tonight. Cumberland is in, but he's hurt which might mean they keep another guy. Zinger the blocker from Atlanta or Josh Baker the UDFA who looked great in week 1. If Baker doesn't make it I would offer him a spot on the practice squad. He looked good, but he's a smaller TE and probably needs to put on size.

I think a TE will be brought in at some point. There's no way the Jets are completely comfortable with that group, and if they are then they've gone mad.

Turner looks better than he has at any point before, but I'm still meh.

This is what I think.

They could justify carrying six WR's, but if five's the number, I think Logan Payne beats out Turner. Then 6'5" Courtney Smith lands on the practice squad.

WR and Linebacker are the most interesting cutdown positions imo. Definitely want to see what happens at inside linebacker. And WR, they have some interesting choices there:

The first four spots are locked up -- Holmes, Plax, Mason, Kerley. I find it hard to believe they are only going to keep 5 here, I think it will be 6. Patrick Turner is a nice option to have, his size alone makes him worth the shot. Logan Payne had a really good camp. And I know he hasn't been heard from but are they really just going to cut Scotty McKnight and admit that drafting Mark's BFF was not a good idea?

Here's the think you have to remember, and I think is getting lost in the shuffle of this whole "5 WRs" thing. Since Rex has taken over, he has specifically mentioned that the very bottom of these teams roster belongs to special teams, regardless of the player's position on the field. That means it doesn't matter if the player is a WR, LB, CB, etc., the best special teamers will be the ones who make the final cutdown. I think there's a very real chance what that 5 WRs comment really means is you're looking at 5 guys who make this team basely purely on their skills at the WR position, which I think gets Turner in over Payne, but that doesn't mean that Payne isn't going to turn around and beat out a fringe CB for a roster spot based on special teams play. Over the past couple of years this team has carried 4 QBs, 2 FBs, and now 4 HBs, this is clearly not a team who's too hung up on having a set number of players at any given position.

I'd bet anything ole Scotty McWhite is a lock for the practice squad.

The D-line is a positon that has me wondering what they'll do. Marcus Dixon and Ropati may bot make the 53...Ropati blocking that kick last night sealed it for him I think. One blocked FG or EP can be the difference between a win and a loss and Dixon also has that size and a push

Payne sprained/dislocated his wrist last night and is getting an MRI today. Turner might win by default, with Payne opening the season on the injury list.

that sux for Logan Payne-he was going to be our new Wallace Wright. Hey slats how impressive is Kerley looking?

Kerley rebounded nicely from his washout the week before. Nice punt return, couple catches, and a nice pass out of the wildcat. Couldn't ask for a drop more from a fifth round rookie.

Dixon and Pitoitua are both locks at this point. Dixon was the first guy off the bench last year and has been playing very well this preseason, and Pitoitua is a Rex favorite and has had a great preseason as well. Gilbert was actually the one who got the FG block, and I think he's got a good chance to make the team too, but that depends on how many DL they decide to carry, considering you've also got Ellis and MTV who are a lock and near lock respectively at NT, not to mention Pouha, DeVito and Wilkerson as your starters.

Don't think Cumberland is seriously hurt. Ham string isn't it? They carried Cumberland on the 53 all last year so he wouldn't get claimed. He's had a very productive preseason. Think he makes the team for sure. Yes Mulligan did very well last night

I'll tell you what, kid's got one hell of an arm. I know it was only one throw, but I saw more zip on that ball than we ever saw out of ole noodle-armed Brad Smith. Curious to see if they'll be working in more throwing options on those plays this year.

yea that whole letting Shaun Ellis go thing isn't looking like such a bad thing right now if you ask me. The Jets are getting younger, bigger, and stronger on the DL while NE is getting older and slower. Also Bee G who was that white boy safety with the porn star 'stache making all the plays last night?

Actually, despite the horrible commentating crew last night identifying him as a safety, that was an ILB, Nick Bellore. That's another position where I'm really liking the Jets young depth. Mauga has looked good and has already been dubbed by Rex to be their first guy off the bench, and I think both Bellore and Satelle have both put together some legit performances this preseason to make an argument for them to make the final roster. I can't see the Jets carrying 5 ILBs, so I'm curious to see who makes the final cut, but I'd bet the one who doesn't is a surefire lock for the practice squad. Part of me wonders based purely on knowledge and experience if Satelle will win the roster spot with Bellore given a year to learn on the PS.

Kind of a shame but I think Satelle is the odd man out. Muga, is on the team, and Bellore has made impact plays every game. Don't think he'll last on the PS

You could very well be right, and I don't think I'd be surprised if it goes either way. If nothing else, I can promise you neither guy is getting cut today, and whichever one doesn't make the final 53 will be a PS priority. Like I said, I think the advantage Satelle has is a year in the system and therefore, obviously a much more thorough understanding of the defense and playbook. That's only compounded by the lockout and the lack of time Bellore has had. Although I think there's a very real chance that if the Jets agree with your point about Bellore not lasting on the PS, they could give him the spot and put Satelle back on the PS for another season, knowing he's there to be called up if they need him.

MTV is a lock, considering he's the first NT off the bench (not Ellis).

BTW< what the hell was he doing at LB last night?!

I think that they are happy at TE and so am I. As long as Mulligan can block the rest is meaningless. Keller and Cumberland are both fine as TEs catching the ball. The Giants would kill to have our TE situation.

This is what I think.

They could justify carrying six WR's, but if five's the number, I think Logan Payne beats out Turner. Then 6'5" Courtney Smith lands on the practice squad.

I could go either way on Payne and Turner. Turner seems the better WR, Payne special teamer. I was happy that brought Smith in, but he finally got on the field last night and looked lost. Obviously if Payne dislocated his wrist he may be IR'd.

Here's the think you have to remember, and I think is getting lost in the shuffle of this whole "5 WRs" thing. Yep. The thing is that these guys may not be competing with other guys at their position, but for special team spots. Payne, Bellore, Satele may all be going for special team spots. Guys that don't add on specials may be competing too - can Maybin add anything? Josh Baker? One thing though, I don't think there are any fringe CB spots to be had. They have Revis, Cromartie, Wilson, Strickland, Cole and Lowery. Other guys like Ellis Lankster may be competing with Turner and Payne, but with 6 already there they aren't likely to have a roster spot. I'm starting to think that there is a decent chance Strickland gets cut.

The D-line is a positon that has me wondering what they'll do. Marcus Dixon and Ropati may bot make the 53...Ropati blocking that kick last night sealed it for him I think. One blocked FG or EP can be the difference between a win and a loss and Dixon also has that size and a push

Agree Dixon and Pitoitiua are in. Gilbert is borderline. He may be competing with Maybin.

I wasn't making the point for him missing games or being cut, but if he can't go the first few weeks they may need to keep an extra guy around. They have to do that sometimes and it is often how the final roster is decided.

Kind of a shame but I think Satelle is the odd man out. Muga, is on the team, and Bellore has made impact plays every game. Don't think he'll last on the PS

Agreed. Rex was talking up Bellore. Mauga is in. I heard him talking about all three of them and Rex never spoke as kindly about Satele as the other two. It will depend on practice. They have each stood out in one of the three preseason games.

this is gonna sound insane but Dan Depalma does more for specials than Turner and injured Payne

Does he really do more? He returns. They have Kerley, McKnight, Leonhard and Wilson for punts and at least Kerley, Cro and McKnight for KOs. The best gunner I have seen is Cole. Payne was doing a good job there, I haven't seen Depalma there. Certainly not against the 1s.

Payne dislocated his wrist last night. Doesn't sound like a good thing for a WR.

Yeah heard that on 1050 not too long after posting that. Sucks for him. If they're only carrying 5 I wonder who is 5. Look, Turner sucks, guys had two decent chances to come down with a hanging fade in the end zone two games in a row and couldn't do it. If he can't use his height to his advantage than I don't know what he's good for. The ball/throw this past game he really should have been able to catch, granted both would have been really nice catches, they weren't easy, but you have to make it happen when you're 6'5 or whatever and trying to make a roster...imo.

His main competition is Michael Campbell who is also 6'5" and blatantly dropped the ball and has looked pretty questionable, Scottie McKnight and Dan Depalma. Depalma is a teeny school guy and I haven't seen him run with the 2s. McKnight has gotten almost no run. Suck or not (and most #5 WRs do) Turner has to be the overwhelming favorite for the slot. Wouldn't be shocked or upset if he doesn't make it, but he's mos likely.
