Tanny Conf Call - I am on it right now

Peter Schwartz: The perception is this was a marketing move.

Tanny: Woody is the best owner, he just wants to win games. This is 100% a football move. They want to run an effective wildcat. We have a vision and roll for Tebow. How much he plays is up to the coaches.

PS: How much did you like him out of college?

Tanny: He is what he thought he was, a winner and a great competitor.

Tom McDonald: NY One News. Congrats on the move. Any worries over a negative impact this move could have for the team?

Tanny: We are excited about it. Every QB has a backup and now Mark has that in Tim. Tim will be a player that can help us and we contemplated all things.

TM: Did you do this to tweak Mark Sanchez?

Tanny: Mark is passionate, played hurt, won a lot of games. Just a way to add another playmaker to the team.

Ben NY Times: Did you think about trading for Tim before Monday or is this just something that happened in the last 24 hours?

Tanny: It happened fast but we have always discussed the wildcat internally for a few months. Sparano will figure out when and how much to play Tim.

Rich Cimini: Mike you gave up two draft picks and 2.5 million dollars. Is that steep for a backup player?

Tanny: We thought the price was appropriate and are comfortable with the compensation. Otherwise we wouldn't have made the trade. We don't see this as a one year deal.

RC: Did you think about walking away during the 8 hour delay.

Tanny: You don't have a deal until you do. It took longer, but we feel good about the result.

Rod Boone Newsday: What does this mean for Drew Stanton and Greg McElroy?

Tanny: Tim is our backup, we don't have resolution on the others we will see.

RB: Wildcat, do you still believe it can be effective?

Tanny: Time is dynamic as a thrower and a runner, there are a lot of things you can do with Tim. We think we can do things with him that will enhance our offense.

JP Pelzman: You signed Stanton and another backup. What about the perception that there isn't a real plan here?

Tanny: When we signed Drew this wasn't contemplating that Tim would be available. We talked about keeping 4 QBs, we will see and move forward from there.

JP: You lose a pick here, that was a problem last year trading away picks. How will you address your depth issues?

Tanny: Addressing Patrick Turner, Marcus Dixon add depth. We are confident we will get it done. Not by March 22, but by opening day. We feel good about Caleb and others that work hard and we believe in the staff. It is up to us to prove it. There are stories on this roster that will be told by opening day.

Chris WSJ: Tebow being the backup...1. If Mark struggles are you ready for the calls for Tebow? 2. If Mark gets hurt, what about Tim's viability as a backup from a passing standpoint?

Tanny: Tim has done well in this league, he can improve in some areas but we like him. Tim is a young player going into his 3rd year. With his character and work ethic we have seen players improve and he will have meaningful contributions to our team. The coaching staff is excited about this.

Chris: Fan pressure if Mark struggles?

Tanny: Tim has a magnetic following. Every starting QB has a backup, this one is unique but Mark has shown resiliency and toughness.

we need to revise what we know as the wildcat... the wildcat was essentially a unbalanced formation - jet sweep/ edge rush option, predicated on the hope the defense doesn't adjust well enough...

the "wildcat" we are looking with tebow is probably going to be more or less a spread option.. I could picture running something very similiar to urban meyers offense

which is very intricate and tough to stop... but like you've heard over and over again, "everyone in the nfl is fast and that's why the option doesnt work".. i guess we are going to throw that in the playbook... im not as infuriated as i was before, while an option attack can't sustain success, it is a nice change up.. even if you hardly ever use it, d-cords will be forced to plan for it and take away from time that could be going towards other things..

regardless, sparano is going to have to be very creative, consistently, for this to reap any long term benefits

Brian Costello NY Post: Does it make you pause that the Broncos would trade him for not a huge price?

Tanny: You would have to ask them, they do a great job. They won the division and beat us this year. You look at the cap, the price and we measured it all carefully.

Steve Star Ledger: Any discussion about the attention he will receive and the non stop scrutiny?

Tanny: He will come here and be a member of our team. We understand the dynamic and will be prepared for it. Rex does a good job of handling that dynamic and we are prepared from an infrastructure standpoint.

Lisa Zimmerman CBS Sports: What I want to know is, you want to get the best players. But when you have strong needs like pass rusher...what is it about Tebow when that position isn't a glaring need that made you acquire him?

Tanny: We had Thomas Jones and Leon Washington under contract when we got Shonn Greene. Tim helps our offense and the offseason has a long way to go. We still have 6 picks in the draft to add good young players and depth to the roster. There are needs but we haven't even drafted.

Sorry everyone I missed the beginning of the call , opening statement and any early questions. Didn't realize that JetNation had been invited. That has never happened before. But hopefully we get invited again in the future. We behaved and everything. :)
