Because our fans are so intense, our history so putrid, Joe...

Namath still the face of the franchise after 40+ years...is exactly what makes the NY Jets job the perfect job for a HC looking to make history.

You deliver a championship to this fan base and you will be beloved beyond description...forever.

You can go to San Fran and you have to win a few of them to be revered.  Same with the Giants.  Patriots.  Green Bay.  Dallas.

You come here and win one and you are a legend.

I would want this job.  I would covet the opportunity to deliver a championship to a starved fan base.  If you're the right guy...this is exactly where you want to be.

So if we're concerned about some guys not taking it because of how tough it is or because of the GM then right off the bat the guy is the wrong guy.  Go somewhere else.

We need someone who thinks of this job as the absolute perfect opportunity.

That's how I would see it.

This is why not landing Peyton is and will always be unacceptable.

Peyton is a middle america type of dude and doesn't want to play in the Sodom of NYC. It was a non starter. Look at his football career. Tennessee. Indy. Denver.

There wasn't enough money in the world to convince Peyton to play for the Jets. A team that by the way he didnt want to play for, back when Parcells was threatening to draft him.

This is why not landing Peyton is and will always be unacceptable. Playing for this team should be such an easy sell, but between Rex and Woody he just said **** that. This franchise is such a cluster**** that he didn't wanna even bother. Awful.

Peyton didn't need the Jets to make him a legend.

Yeah Peyton's a silly argument.

But I definitely get the main point...like Sinatra said," here honey, bite down on this and be quiet-"

No wait, scratch that ...

Like Sinatra said, "if you you can make there, you can make it any where.."

Some NFL HCs have such massive egos that turning around the Jets is EXACTLY what they want. We talk so much about "what HC in his right mind wants this job?" but there are definitely coaches-good ones-that need this job for the "glorification of their own massive egos"

I hope one of them is out there ready to turn us around.

Total false  that some one would not be interested in a position- biggest media capital- if you are successful you will be royalty. Manning was never going to come here- just like Revis was never going to come back here

80% sure that if Favre doesn't throw out his shoulder we'd of seen him lifting a Super Bowl trophy down the Canyon of Heroes.  Now that would have been a party.  And talk about Brett's legacy after that in NY. Fuggedaboudit.

^^  Agree wholeheartedly with this.  Too damn bad.

Right?  I didn't want the Favre signing. But after he was lighting it up I was so on board.  Man that was a great streak.  Then of course back to the Jets hell. lol

Really was an awesome partial season.  Then of course in Jets fashion instead of a chamionship he hurts his shoulders and uses what little strength he has in it to texts pictures of his dick.  Actually sounds about right.

All those SB trophies he's piled up in Denver, could've been ours!

Bingo bango. He took one look at this franchise and said oh hail no.

That was an awesome two days. The report comes out that Peyton released his list of teams that he wasn't going to talk to, then the next day Woody comes out and says they passed on him as if any human alive was going to believe that sh*t. ******* clueless as ****.

The logic was and still is priceless to. Well we never had a shot at him!

Oh really? Why? Why do you think that is? Because he likes Midwestern food? Really?

Maybe it's because the owner is a known asshat and the GM at the time was clueless and the coach is mentally disabled. And when you want to go somewhere and still compete for Super Bowls that's the type of situation you avoid.

And the crazy part is you still get the lunatics, even to this day, who argue that if Rex could get someone like Peyton Manning, he could compete for a championship. When the truth of the matter is that Rex could have had Peyton Manning, he was available, and he wanted nothing to do with Rex and the organization he works for.

I've seen Jets fans catalog a lot of revisionist sh*t, but I don't know if I've ever seen more of it with such frequency and conviction than these past six years.

Woody Johnson paid what was probably high 5 figures/low 6 figures to a consulting firm, to find John Idzik.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/body-language-expert--can-see-how-broken--jets-gm-john-idzik-appears-005248372.html

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – It has been a rough go for New York Jets general manager John Idzik this season.

His team is 1-8 after a .500 record last year. There were legit playoff dreams this past offseason. But his 12-man draft class might be the worst in the league and he's taking heat for failing to land significant upgrades to his roster via free agency.

Other than that, he's on firm ground.

His press conference last week to address the season and the direction of the team accomplished little but further frustrate the fan base and give more red meat to the media. Just two years into his time with the Jets, things seem to be falling apart for Idzik, who came in with a reputation as thoughtful and pragmatic but has seen things shift very quickly as his Jets have underwhelmed.

One of the nation's foremost authorities on body language said when she reviewed his press conference, particularly his hum-drum 19-minute monologue, she saw a man who looks beaten.

Right off the bat you can see how broken he appears," body language expert Tonya Reiman said. "Hunched over, bowing his head with a downward gaze which typically denotes defeat. 'I search for words to describe how we feel' and 'you feel like you’ve been punched in the face.' Here we see an inward lip roll and then he runs his teeth over his bottom lip indicating, frustration and stress. An inward lip roll is generally done when a person is trying to suppress an emotion – usually a negative emotion."

John Idzik

And those are just the physical cues tipped off in the opening minute of his press conference. Just 18 more minutes of monologue and then questions from the media to go.

Three minutes in, Idzik said with a twinge of passion that, “I'm the general manager of the New York Jets.” Reiman noticed that his “eyes go down in shame to the left and then looks to right, still looking down.” Clear shame at his job performance, she indicates.

Jets fans feel the same way right about now, Tonya.

On the flip side, several minutes later as Idzik transitioned away from himself and his failures, he was clearly looking up more, showing the counter to the same shame felt earlier.

There was a lot of jaw shifting, Reiman noted, as well as other interesting indicators.

When Idzik was almost nine minutes into his monologue (surely longer than any Jets drive this season), he referred to his team by saying, “We have a very resilient, committed unbelievable group of guys” Reiman notes a jaw shift and a negative head roll the jaw shift is typically indicative of embarrassment and discomfort.

Several times when Idzik was asked pointed questions about the team and his role, such as if he has the support of owner Woody Johnson or asked about the play of Smith, his embattled quarterback, he turned to some telling coping mechanisms.

Notice the increase in mouth movements, jaw shifts, lip biting, leg rubbing and high fidgeting as the Q&A has started – indications of anxiety starting to leak out,” Reiman said.

Geno Smith's name is mentioned and again note the leg rubbing pacification done to calm yourself down and relieve stress. Later, another question about Geno is raised -'Is it fair to say you overestimated Geno?' Watch as Idzik takes a deep breath. We typically take a deep breath in they are trying to take in additional oxygen to calm themselves down. As the question continues again you see the leg being rubbed.”

Leg rubbing is no good, apparently. Keep that in mind on first dates guys. Or when you're defending your 1-8 team.

retained searches are usually 25% - 33 % of total 1st year compensation for someone at that level.  do you know how much he was paid ?

You do realize that the Jets are ahead of 13 NFL teams who have never won a Super Bowl trophy?  This HC would want to give a trophy to a trophy-less team first, wouldn't he? He'd for sure be a legend there!  Just sayin'  Good thing it doesn't work that way.
