What I love about training camp reports...

On every play, someone did something good.

What I really hate about training camp reports...

On every play someone got beat.

Look for a report of Cro covering Evans. Usually they'll both lose. Cro will get beat and Shaq will drop it.

Lol @Mike

Thx for these updates ... All in all sounds like Fitz did reasonable well with the 1's ... Let's keep it up beard man!!!

He looked very good early on....completed his first seven or eight attempts (sorry...lost count)

A few things jumped out today at Jets practice on a hot Saturday afternoon in Florham Park.

– Muhammad Wilkerson wasn’t in pads again and it was later revealed that he suffered a minor setback in his rehab from the strained hamstring he suffered earlier in camp.  The Jets have been taking a cautious approach with Wilkerson thus far and there’s no reason to expect them to change course.  Until he’s a full go, he should remain on the sidelines.

– Special Teams Coach Bobby April was very animated throughout practice, consistently stressing to his unit to pick up the pace.  In both sessions, one early and one late, April was staying on his guys and offered praise to cornerback Dexter McDougle and LB Jamari Lattimore.

Special Teams coach Bobby April keeps a close eye on his punt coverage unit.

– The offensive line’s run blocking was strong.  Perhaps aided by the fact that it’s camp with no tackling, but center Nick Mangold and left guard James Carpenter did a nice job of opening some holes for the running backs.

– Once again, Willie Colon started out with the first unit and appears to be working his way back in to a starting role.

– Antonio Cromartie struggled again and at this point you can only wonder if it’s a case of a veteran player holding back a little bit, or if Cro has in fact lost a step.  Cromartie did however have an interception and while it was against a Jake Heaps/Johnathan Rumph tandem, it was good anticipation on his part and he did fight for the ball…and he won.

– The receivers made some excellent plays.  Jonathon Rumph made a perfectly timed leaping catch over a defender, and Walt Powell made a good grab on a Bryce Petty pass in which Petty rolled out to avoid the hard-charging Trevor Reilly and put the throw in a good spot for Powell to make a sliding grab.

– Calvin Pryor had what was probably the best play of the day on defense, intercepting a mid-range Fitzpatrick pass on a diving grab in the middle of the field.

– Darryl Richardson had limited reps but flashed good quickness/agility.

– All Eric Decker does is run tight routes and catch the ball…may go down as Idzik’s best acquisition.

– Two tough drops for Shaq Evans.  A couple of catchable passes but one in the dirt and one behind him.  Had both hands on the ball both times.

– Trevor Reilly continues to impress.  Several pressures from the Utah product today.  Could push for playing time this season.

– Communication on the sidelines was excellent.  Plenty of chatter between DBs/LB’s discussing responsibilities.  Veteran safety Marcus Gilchrist had a good talk with Calvin Pryor regarding covering/cheating on specific routes.  The former college CB could be the perfect mentor for Pryor in developing coverage skills.

– Fitzpatrick completed his first seven pass attempts in team drills, looked a little bit shaky in the middle, then finished strong with a TD pass to Eric Decker in the back of the end zone before lofting a perfectly throw fade to Marshall for the 2-point conversion.

That wraps up today’s notes, check back with JetNation.com tomorrow when we’ll be at camp once again.

With camp being two hand touch so much these days it is tough to evaluate the line on both sides.

So true...saw him get some penetration today but no way of knowing if he'd make the tackle if it was live.

Was at camp, beautiful but hot day.

Had my nephews with me, who were bored barely half way through, understandably so...

I didn't see the second team 11 v 11 where Fitz supposedly played better, he did some good things, enjoyed the media tweets covering his day, but right off the bat, his arm on the sideline routes will be frustrating to watch, he needs to get his rhythm back, but Petty looked so much better throwing the ball, Petty had a really nice day.

Defense spent the first good chunk of practicing doing tackling drills, especially the DB's.

Enjoyed watching the OL work, coaches are loud over there doing installation and a variety of drills and teaching.

The part of camp for me that stands out is tempo, and how much teaching is going on, the focus by the coaching staff is a big difference.

I'm a Rex fan, but it always seemed that Rex was always chuckling and shooting the sh*t with somebody, Bowles is all business, nobody around him, walks over to coaches from time to time, but always locked in, and he moves around quite a bit. I lost track of him, but I tried to pay attention to what he was doing when the team was doing positional work.

Lot of ST's work, enjoyed watching the ST's drills after the first 11 v 11 team period, April working on taking on angles to the ball carrier, a lot of technique work both offensively running the ball and defending it.

Didn't get to see much of the kickers, Schum I think is pushing Quigley.

I was actually impressed with Heaps arm up close, bigger arm than I thought.

Petty stood out a lot, I thought he carried himself with a lot more confidence compared to what I saw during the Met Life scrimmage, I think that first game in Detroit did wonders for him.

Kerley, Enumwa, and Evans were the #3, 4, and 5 WR's from what I saw, I think I saw Powell get some reps with 1's as well, that WR position is a real battle. Posey I thought got some solid work with the 1's and mostly with 2's. Hakim is a player to watch he got some work with the 2's and really is a stud on ST's. Really can't wait for Smith to return.

Eskeridge is getting work with the 2's, rotating with Milez

Williams, McDougle are the #2 CB's, with some Walls mixed in.

Arenas is fast, got work as a PR.

Jones worked in Henderson's place as the #2 MLB

Reilly is really emerging this year, good to see.

I thought Maudlen was swimming a bit today, seemed out of place on some plays, but always plays like his head is on fire, always punding his fists after plays that it seemed he wasn't happy about his performance.

Richardson seems to be the #3 RB behind Ivory and Powell.

Listened to Bowles PC, his comments on Gilchrist were hilarious, accused him of doing a bad acting job getting the wind knocked out of him. Saw the play, saw Gilchrist go up high, and heard the thud and scream, looked bad, but as you all read, he was eventually back practicing.

Cro looks slow...  He's definitely lost a step since his prime, and he relies on it so much that i'm a bit worried about what we're going to get this year.

Revis meanwhile makes it looks so easy, basically running Marshalls route before he does.  I think he might be an elite cb until he's 40, so sharp are his instincts and technique.

Going to training camp has gone downhill since they left Hofstra . Why in the world do you need tickets to attend a practice ? The Jets overthink everything !!!!!! :wild:  :wild:  :wild:

Probably because there was only room to install seating for 1,400 fans.  I don't know how often it would happen, but I know there have been a couple of days this year in which the stands were full, so if no tickets, they may have ended up turning people away which would be a bigger PR nightmare...especially for that family of four that drives several hours only to be denied entry.  Bad job by them to not get back to people who signed up for tickets though.

Agree especially since they dont respond with a yes or no when you take the time to register. They are using the information to to try and sell season tickets. I pity the fool who calls my house trying to sell me tickets after no replies after registering for camp yesterday.
