Coaches from Jets, Lions put Vernon Butler though workout

Representatives from 24 NFL teams -- including defensive line coaches from the Detroit Lions and New York Jets -- were on hand for Louisiana Tech's pro day on Tuesday.

There were 15 Louisiana Tech players, plus five more from Grambling State, who worked out in Joe Aillet Stadium on a windy day.

Defensive tackle Vernon Butler -- 6-foot-3 7/8, 327 pounds -- ran the 40-yard dash in 5.15 seconds with the wind and 5.21 seconds against the wind. He had a 33 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-3 broad jump. The defensive line coaches from the Jets and Lions put Butler through his workout, in which he showed excellent movement and quickness.

Running back Kenneth Dixon -- 5-10 1/2, 222 -- stood on his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine. He was able to do some of the drills, but was hampered by a right hamstring issue. Still, he looked really good catching the ball.

Quarterback Jeff Driskel -- 6-4 1/4, 236 -- also stood on his combine numbers. Despite it being very hard to accurately throw the football in the windy conditions, Driskel had a good workout.

Cornerback Adairius Barnes -- 5-10 3/4, 179 -- ran the 40 in 4.53 seconds with the wind and 4.57 seconds against the wind. He had a 41 1/2-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-6 broad jump. He did the 20-yard short shuttle in 4.08 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.79 seconds. He had 14 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. Barnes looked good and very smooth in his positional workout. He might have worked his way into being a priority free-agent pickup possibility for a team following the draft.

Safety Kentrell Brice -- 5-11 1/2, 206 -- ran the 40 in 4.37 seconds with the wind and 4.46 seconds against the wind. He had a 42-inch vertical and 11-foot-1 broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.4 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.62 seconds. He performed 21 reps on the bench. Brice is a rookie free-agent pickup possibility.

Grambling State wide receiver Chester Rogers -- 5-11 1/8, 185 -- ran the 40 in 4.51 and 4.49 seconds. He had a 36-inch vertical jump and 10-foot broad jump. He did the short shuttle in 4.06 seconds and the three-cone in 6.82 seconds. He put the bar up 15 times on the bench press. Rogers had a good enough workout to be a possible free-agent pickup for a team following the draft.

All this smoke....Big money FA pursuits coming up short...DL/DT draft rumors....uptick in shopping talks....sounds like the Wilkerson situation is in full swing and heading towards an extension. Should be riveting times

Funny, with all this "smoke" going around, you'd think teams would be lined up asking about the price tag for a future HOFer. Funny indeed.

Yeah, you can tell they're definitely staying away. I feel it in my bones and gut too.

Christ. Unless said interior lineman is an athletic freak of nature please stop. Williams at 6 was probably even a reach with his measurables.

Guys like Aaron Donald and Watt are beyond awesome because they weren't created on Earth.

The CONSENSUS UNDISPUTED TOP TALENT of the 2015 Draft where, as we've seen by the 2016 FA market, a STUD Defensive End costs you $15M PER YEAR!!!!!!! :jawdrop:

Considering the situation w/Mo and Sheldon, DE in the NFL may have to have the Ron Wolf QB theory applied because of the ever increasing inflated price tag.

Vernon Butler would be a GREAT pick btw, DLine depth be damn. his measureables in addition to a frame that can add another 20 lbs ALONG with his motor & hustle - he'll be a HELLUVA NFL Pro in 3 years time.
