Pass Rush Plan (Free Agency)

I think people are too worried  about this homegrown sh*t.  Get good players.  Tennessee, Minnesota, San Francisco and New Orleans all made the playoffs with QBs from other teams.  The Chiefs, Texans, and Ravens all made the playoffs with QBs drafted when "there were no franchise QBs available."  Same for NE and Seattle, if a bit longer ago.  On the pass rush side, the Chiefs traded for Frank Clark.  The Seahawks for Jadeveon Clowney.  The Packers added Preston and Za'darius Smith and they both had double digit sacks.  The problem is not how you get talent.  It is getting talent.

Good organizations can bring in quality free agents at premium positions.  They needed a core of solid homegrown talent to get to that point.

They don't need to be homegrown, they just need to be cheap.  Obviously the draft is the easiest secure pipeline to cheap quality talent, but there are other ways.  The Chiefs are starting a waiver claim at C and street FA at LG.  There is no discernible difference in team building between guys like Neville Hewitt and Copeland vs. Jenkins and Cashman or Brian Winters vs. Alex Lewis.

Yes, but there's this thing called the salary cap, and you can't field Pro Bowlers at every position for just that reason.

Jenkins is the 2nd coming of Calvin Pace. Sets the edge, will get you some sacks, good leader and a good teammate.

You need those guys on your roster.

Agree.  Jets need to resign him.  He’s a better Bryan Thomas

Pace and Thomas were always solid contributors 260 4.4 perfect 3-4 athletes the only problem is neither lived up to 1 rd pick

Pace was run out of Arizona while Thomas was widely lauded as a Bust, despite his 10 year Jets-only career

All this is to say Jordan Jenkins is Pace at 3rd rd prices, and that's why people are OK with it. If Jenkins was a round 1 pick he'd be run out of town already

Quinnen, the 3rd overall pick in the draft will most likely never reach the sack totals jenkins has had the last two years.

Jenkins has done a good quite job the last few years but no team has to game plan for him, we still badly need a true olb pass rushing terror.

I believe that to be untrue and would bet against it (for charity of course)

but that would undermine the real issue which is he other value beside sack stats

the Jets defense is actually good.

not like Josh Allen who ONLY has value with sack stats and the Jacksonville D is soft af all year... seriously like 29th or 30th in the league bad

You win by pressuring the QB, if you can do it without exotic blitzs all the better.  It is harder to account for an outside rusher than an interior guy.

We got sacks last year with our olb, jenkins who is not a natural pass rushing terror and by blitzing the hell out of our safety.

When your SS is a huge part of your pass rush it opens up other areas of weakness.

If you are drafting interior guys really really high they have to be great vs the run AND great pass rushers.

in 2019 this was true in 2018 it was the opposite

these things go in waves

it's hard to account for multiple pass rushers how about that

Shaq Barrett gets 20 sacks because JPP is also there getting 8

Aaron Donald gets 12.5 and Dante Fowler gets 11

the Jets lack the edge rush we agree, where we disagree is that you believe Q sucks I just believe he needs time and help

like Sam Darnold also needs time and help

they are 22 and 21 respectively

and since I brought it up, every thread about pass rush or cornerbacks or QW is a Jets fan defecting their brain from considering the dumpster full of used diapers on fire that is Adam Gase's offense

The Jets'  defense is good. Is it good enough to win the SB maybe not but they could have been in the playoffs if they had a kicker and more offense. The defense didn't let this team down

and specifically QW didn't let this team down. Neither did Adams.

the defense had several goal line stands, they were nasty all year and these players were a part of that. Gregg Williams had the defense humming, despite not having a legit edge or cornerbacks of any merit.

we need to stop obsessing about the defense

look at the boxscore the D was holding most teams in check (other than Baltimore)

the Jets have like 20 players on offense under contract let's talk about that

stop picking at scabs when there's a bullet wound

One day we won't have to sign someone from another team's discard pile, and will have a homegrown pass rusher of our own that other teams covet.

15 years and counting since we had a legit pass rusher on this team.

It's mindboggling the Jets still haven't figured out how to replace Abraham.

Chase Young might be the only EDGE rusher in Rd 1

just keep that in mind

I have seen Espeneza going as high as 10 and as low as 65ish.

I do hear you Bit....but all it takes is a failed piss test or an assault charge.

Not wishing it, don't think it will happen.  But, for sh*ts and giggles, lets say he fell to 11.  I am just saying to Warfish that even though we need an LT, if Chase Young was staring you in the face, would you take him over O-line.
