I gotta say...

I love Mangold...but that whole holding out for Fitz thing really still sits in my craw a bit.

He stood up for a teammate who gave the Jets some inspired football. What a dog!!!

How'd that inspired football work out for us?

Meaningful games in December have a value considering this is entertainment. I enjoyed being alive week 17. The hindsight, all-or-nothing “analysis” disregards the great moments I had that season watching and talking football with my fellow Jets fans. I pity those in the “ring or failure” brigade.

Except is wasn’t that season.  He held out the season after that one.  That was a nice season, I agree. The season afterward was a disaster.

Holding out to force the franchise to pay ANOTHER Player is a duechy thing to do.  I never have a problem with a player holding out for their OWN contract.

Ah talking about different things. Well I don’t blame him for holding out. Jets were dumb to negotiate against themselves and cave. That’s on them, not him. Self-inflicted wounds are the most painful.

Eh.  Teammates support their QB's, especially one that had just had a top 5 QB season in Jets history (as sad as that is to note).

Macc was just too big of a pu$$y to ignore the outside pressure.

No stain on Nick's record in my eyes.  He's still the man.

the actor playing the coach did a great job coming across as a d**shbag from the moment he came on as HC

And as Hollywood loves to do, it was a completely inaccurate portrayal.  In reality, the head coach was the one that came up with the idea in the first place.

There was never a "Spartacus" moment where Rudy's teammates lined up to deactivate themselves on gameday, because it wasn't necessary.

so no 2nd coach come in and replaced the 1st guy who liked Rudy?

The 2nd coach came in, that part was accurate.  But the 2nd guy never disliked Rudy.  Complete fabrication to add unnecessary drama.  Rudy himself admitted that never happened.  And Devine being made out to be a "villain" was completely unfair.

And Devine was adamant during the Georgia Tech game that everyone who was active got to play, so his unwillingness to put Rudy into the game (as portrayed in the film) was also inaccurate.

Rudy didn't have a brother, Frank, either.  And his tuition was covered by the GI bill.  The groundskeeper character?  Didn't exist.  He never needed a side job, after all.

In addition:

Quote

Joe Montana said that the carrying off of Ruettiger after his final play was more of the players joking around than anything else.
