The qb they bring back could be interesting.

The question is whether they bring back a developmental QB like Martinez or a guy they feel they made need to start a game like a cut vet.

Source: Lewis Cine is signing with the #Jets.

Former first-round pick starts elsewhere after Minnesota released him Tuesday.

Not sure if to 53 or PS. Guess he went unclaimed so could still be signed to 53 w/cheaper contract?

That's interesting: Jets are signing safety Lewis Cine to their practice squad, former first-round pick of the Vikings.

His career so far has been beset by injuries.

Nice. I liked him at UGA. Definitely worth a flier.

Cine plays with a willing aggressiveness that fit right in with Georgia's talented stop unit. He plays with an urgent, downhill approach, which leads to memorable collisions but he's not always under control in getting there. He doesn't have desired mass and stopping power for his style of play, but the work gets done. Cine lacks range and instincts to play over the top and is better suited to split safety and down safety alignments. He can handle man coverage underneath but doesn't have the hips to swing and sway with talented receivers down the field. Cine has future starting potential as a zero flinch safety, but has limitations for defenses to consider.

Strengths

  • Plays with an NFL-caliber demeanor.
  • Runs alley with intent to deliver a message.
  • Can galvanize a defense with his hitting.
  • Rose to the occasion in big moments.
  • Hustles downhill with timely response to cut off run options.
  • Fluid switching from route to route in zone.
  • Awareness to race receivers to designated catch spots.
  • Adequate man coverage underneath.
  • Hammers at pass-catchers to pop throws loose.
  • Mentality to stand out on special teams coverage.

Weaknesses

  • Average size and play strength.
  • Segmented and bumpy in his backpedal.
  • Can improve eye balance in coverage.
  • Hips and feet aren't always on the same page.
  • Loses his leverage in coverage at times.
  • Might need more mass as NFL tackler.
  • Average body control flowing to tackle.
  • Angles in run support can be a little steep.

Lower leg strain hampers Lewis Cine's chances to make 53-man roster

Cine appears to be buried on the depth chart.
Joe Nelson | Jul 30, 2024

Lewis Cine's chance to make the 53-man roster with the Minnesota Vikings appeared to be slim entering training camp, and a leg injury that has prevented him from practicing this week is even more reason to question his odds of sticking around in his third NFL season.

Cine did not practice Sunday or Monday and head coach Kevin O'Connell, ahead of Tuesday's camp practice, revealed that Cine is dealing with a leg injury, though he doesn't expect him to miss much more time.

"Lewis is dealing with a little bit of a lower leg, some soreness, little strain there. I would classify him as day to day. We just want Lew to feel ready to roll and get out there with his teammates as fast as possible," O'Connell said. "We'll get him back rolling as soon as possible."

(October 4, 2022)

Lewis Cine underwent successful surgery today to repair the compound fracture of the tibia and fibula he suffered during Sunday's game.

At least 1 spot may be used to bring back whoever we cut to make room for the Bears TE we signed.

#Jets get roster exemption for international player Obinna Eze

4:53 PM · May 3, 2024

Beginning in 2024, the practice squad will expand to 17 players for all 32 clubs, if one player is a qualifying international player. A qualifying international player is a person whose citizenship and principal place of residence is outside the United States and Canada, and who has a maximum of two years of United States high school experience. In addition, an international player must (i) satisfy all NFL player eligibility rules and (ii) have been eligible for a prior NFL Draft.
