Flea Flicking Frank
8 hours ago, doitny said: and most likely he will revert back to being bad in a few weeks if not sooner. the Geno Smiths of the world are few and far between. besides everybody needs to take today with a grain of salt before they start doing Sam Darnold victory laps. the Giants are a bad team who most likely will lose 10 or more games. the idea of taking a victory lap off of a few games is as dumb as someone saying a QB can't improve over time. Prior to the salary cap, QB's would usually sit for at least a year if not more, and were often given years to develop. And that was when college offenses were stripped down versions of NFL offenses. Nowadays they get thrown right in the fire with more complicated defenses and completely different offenses. Its a recipe for disaster which is why the bust rate is so high for QB;s now vs. 60's through 2000 football. Both extremes are dumb, as extremes usually are.... If JJ comes back and Darnold is playing lights out ... Things will get interesting ... Sent from my Pixel 7 using Tapatalk Kirk cousins was 1 of the top qbs in the league last yr on Vikings, didn’t look good at all in Atlanta debut. I’m sure darnold will come back to reality some when he plays against a decent team, and cousins should play better. But the Vikings seem to be X factor to good qb play. DoubleDecker
Geno got better albeit after like 10 years, so why not Sam? Great to see him having success and also happy the Jets got what they got. Wish they would’ve just traded down like many others thought, but it is what it is. Watching him cook the Giants and their insufferable fan base was merely the cherry on top. Now let’s see what ARod can do!✈️
GangGreened
How we do start the process of getting him back to take over for Rodgers when he retires?

The jets invested a top pick to get Wilson and got worse production out of him Is Sam an elite QB no he is not is he MUCH better than Zach yes he is -was it a mistake Drafting Zach YES IT WAS He wasn't MUCH better for his 3 year Jet career than Zach's. Better, yes. Much? Negative. And his first year with Carolina was worse than any year he had with the Jets and was marginally better than Zach's rookie year. Let's not get crazy based on his one game in 2024. And yes, in hindsight keeping Darnold and trading the pick was the best option. Unfortunately GM's don't have crystal balls to see the future. Any QB they drafted that year would be playing somewhere else in 2024.

He also had an insanely inept head coach in Gase Say what you want about Saleh if the jets fire him he can get a DC gig with another team. 32 NFL teams want nothing to do with Gase

I do think Sam was better than Wilson. Wilson was probably the worst Jets starting QB I've seen with maybe the exception of Browning Nagle. bonkertons
I wanted to keep Darnold too, but this debate is irrelevant now. Even if we kept Sam, he still would have sucked with the team as constructed in 2021. Even with a rookie Penei Sewell or JaMarr Chase. It wouldn't have mattered. We still would have ended up letting him walk the next year, and then we probably would have drafted his replacement in 2022.....so Kenny Pickett or Malik Willis. Maybe Sam Howell. Don't say Purdy, since there's no way they wouldn't have taken a QB early if they were letting Darnold walk. Or we go big with Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson. Trade probably both of our 1st rounders(Sauce and Garrett). Maybe even more than that. This would have been absolute worst-case scenario. The road was bumpy and sucked ass for a long time, but considering how the roster looks right now, I'm content with how things played out. If Rodgers wins us a SB, no one is going to give two ****s about when we moved on from Darnold, or the fact we drafted a bust at 2 overall.
