Is Downing announced as new play caller today?

Ulbrich mentioned a 36 hour review in his introductory press conference.

Maybe they wait and see after the Bills.

Maybe they commit to Hackett for the rest of the season.

I think today we’ll see the announcement that Downing takes over.

You?

I definitely think we'll see that announcement - if not today, definitely in the next 48 hours.

1- Ulbrich can review for 136 hours and it wont matter.  Hes not making any changes.  We had a coach who wanted to make changes and got canned because of it.

How you guys believe anything out of these guys mouths is mindboggling.

Do you really believe the world is that simple?

There are people whose careers are on the line here.

Players in that locker room who have no faith in Hackett on both sides of the ball. Who are sick of losing.

A new HC who what, is just going to throw out this opportunity?

Think about your logic.  Ok let’s say the reports are true that Saleh was demoting Hackett.  Could that have been a desperation — save his hind — too little too late move?

We only have limited info so we need to use some level of logic or look back at past precedents, and the fact is Woody hasn’t made these rash decisions before and Rodgers never got anyone canned and your supporting evidence is that Rodgers learned about Hackett’s demotion to the same position he had with the Packers (non play calling OC) and was so infuriated that he convinced Woody in the span of 5 minutes to 2 hours that Saleh needed to instead go.

He's not an NFL HC.  He was named Interim HC.  They are not the same thing.  One of them comes with a contract the other comes with a potential interview at the end of the season.

Ok even further supporting my argument and that is Ulbrich has a unique on the job opportunity to audition for a head coaching extension with the Jets (like Antonio Pierce last year) or cement / improve his candidacy for other HC opportunities.

And he’s just going to do the same thing over and over rather than make a strong case as a strong leader?  Oh, let’s hire the guy who made no changes to the Jets Offense and let Rodgers ego run them into the ground.

Hackett is still the OC.  So im not seeing much change.  Its still going to be the same calls coming in.

The announcement is to make the simpletons happy.  Unless Hackett has the OC title removed, nothing is really changing.

You do NOT KNOW football.  Have you played competitive sports?

It’s not that simple.

1) You can’t see a change because the game hasn’t happened.

2) Ulbrich says that Downing is the playcaller and will have full say on gameplan. Literally everything changed except the title.

Every executive in the league knows Hackett is unfit to be an NFL OC.  Payton actually said it and in the big revenge game Hackett and Rodgers backed up Payton.  JD has been completely undermined by Woody and no NFL executive is going to hold Ulrich accountable for the Jets.  If there are lots of openings at the end of the year, Ulrich will get interviews.  If he nails them he will become a HC.

Antonio Pierce might have been a lot better off not getting the Raiders job which is very much like the Jets job.

Ulbrich isn’t going to take sh*tt like Saleh and JD did with their tails between their legs. He can either be hired as HC next yr for jets, or have his choice to be D-cord just about anywhere. Saleh isn’t finding another HC job, and nobody definitely is hiring JD as a gm.

You do know that the definition of OC does not mandate play calling?  Hackett didn't call the plays in Green Bay.  LaFleur didn't call them most of last year with the Rams.  Reid, Pederson, Shanahan, Stefanski, McDaniel, Zac Taylor, the guy in Indy, O'Connell, Reich, etc were all head coaches that called plays.  So did Gase.  Sean Payton calls them now, but he kept his OC title when Fassel stripped his play calling.

For the rest of us reading the tea leaves, who understand sports, and are less about the drama— Downing will now take on a bit of the personality of both Ulbrich and Rodgers, and incorporate lessons learned from the garbage we’ve been watching and where the NFL is heading.

A smart start will be to develop a fast start, strike first offensive philosophy.  That’s where I see this going.

Stop forcing the run, add more pre snap motion, move away from 2 TE sets, and pass to open up the run.

Will it work?  Who the hell knows but the last philosophy didn’t and Hackett and Saleh were not capable of changing.

Your examples are all the reverse of whats going on here.

What OC has a guy under him calling plays?
