McGinest blasts ex-Patriot teammates

'Some of the (replacements) coming in were terrible,' Browns' LB says

CLEVELAND - Donning colors other than the red, white and blue for the first time in his 12 year career, Willie McGinest had plenty to say about his former team at the Browns training camp.

According to the San Diego Tribune, McGinest felt the Patriots success was due to an exceptional core group of players, and that they never received enough credit.

"When you start losing your core guys, it's kind of hard, especially when the guys who are coming in don't work as hard or play as hard," said McGinest.

"(Last year) We had injuries. You had (Richard) Seymour hurt early and Rodney Harrison was out. Those are some of our core guys, and some of the (replacements) coming in were terrible. Duane Starks, he came in and played like trash. He was terrible. You had other guys coming in that couldn't fill the shoes of some of those guys that had been there for years and (were) your core guys."

Now sporting the orange and brown for his first season after signing a four year deal with the Browns, he will get his chance to prove his point.

You mean it wasn't all Mangini's fault?

This is fairly old news but I'll comment on it again. I will agree that Starks did flat out sick, whether it was because of injuries or not, he sucked. That doesn't change the fact that what Willie said was completely unprofessional. He is one of my all time favorite Patriots and it sucks to see him come out and show his true colors now that he's gone. This is the kind of $hit that the Mannings and Owens of the NFL pull.

This type of talk was inevitable.

When it was outside vets like Ted Washington, or lesser known players like Chad Eaton, the talk was, "It is a business."

Now when the shoe is on the other foot, it is not so palatable to them. The FO makes it pretty clear. Meet their terms or seek a higher payday elsewhere.

I hope Willie enjoys that extra few million he is getting paid to be a merc on a 4-12 team. You cannot begrudge players like David Givens seeking their payday.

However, players like Ty Law and Willie McGinest, were given extensions that made them the highest paid or dam close to the highest paid about a decade ago. To hear them whine in the latter years of their careers about the injustice is pathetic. Both were paid in excess of 60 million dollars by the Patriots. Both never looked as good as they did with Belichick and now both cry over being old and not getting another ridiculous payday.

As much as I hate the Pats you simply do not throw garbage like this at your old team/teammates, that's bush league and I would have expected more from someone like McGuinest. Grow up you millionare, you decided to leave and made the decision in your best interests so drop the drama crap.

hahaha

SFJ you moron. The 2006 Pats had a more talented defense than all 3 of their superbowl teams. They only regressed because that fatty, who can't even keep in shape himself, was running that half of the team. The Jets' defense was far more feared in '05 than the Pats. We would be better off with Herm back here. Herm was not soft on his players & they can be "motivated" to overcome the team having no timeouts, 10 men on the field 2 plays in a row in the playoffs, making long FG's longer in Pittsburgh in the dead of winter by kneeling on the ball, and not getting plays into the huddle until there are <5 seconds left to hike the ball. And he would've had at least 4 superbowl rings with the Jets if not for Bradway. And Herm took over for just as tough a situation as Parcells did in '97 & Mangini in '06. And Kevin Mawae is still a pro-bowler who can be trusted to keep his trap shut to the media, Ty Law was a shut-down corner in '05, and John Abraham is worth $60M and will be Atlanta's iron-man for the next half-decade. And our annual salary cap limit is really $275 million, not $102 million like the rest of the league.

Did I miss anything?

What is he trying to say? Was Monty Beisel not a great player last year?

What he's trying to say is he's an ungrateful, bitter douchebag. He should just be happy that Grasshopper Crennel was stupid enough to bring him in for some fat cash. He thinks the guys last year sucked? Boy does he have a little trick or treat coming his way this season.

Willie just said what I've been saying all along.

The Pats are starting to lose the guys that were the key to them winning the three superbowls.

Belichick continues to think that he can replace the core of his championship team with castoff players and UDFA's.

His luck is running out.
