Abraham Out for the Year

So just to put an exclamation point to this, it is now being reported that J. Abraham has a torn groin muscle and is out for the year now. So predictable!

1 1/2 games for the Falcons this year....not a bad investment for the draft pick we got!!!

:yahoo:

So now it's not Mangold for Abraham (as some stupidly simplified it as being).

It's Mangold + $40M in cap space that we can use on a different high-priced, pro-bowl-caliber FA

for

absolutely nothing in '06 and likely lots of the same, sprinkled with a some decent games, over the next 5 years beyond that.

All but a few here saw it coming & saw Abe for what he is: a fantastically talented player who is totally unreliable & WAY over-priced, and therefore is not a building block of a championship team.

The Jets pulled off the steal of the off-season with this thing.

yea it's looking like just that-Mangold has been doing a good job at center for us-consider last year how our "perennial pro bowler" couldn't even shotgun a snap-who friggin knew? I still can't believe they gave us the 29th pick-the top center coming out of college football for John Abraham. While I still won't say "good the Falcons deserved it" because I never applaud an injury... anymore anyway...

Mangold has been doing an outstanding job all year long.

Not very easy for a rookie to step into the starting center position.

He's going to be a very good one.

D'Brickashaw Ferguson too-it was a damn good start to this regime as far as drafting goes-we're getting some good production out of our rookies...how many other teams have 6 guys making pretty major contributions from their rookies?

And that's with our 2nd-round pick holding a clipboard like a rookie QB should when such a luxury presents itself.

D'Brick

Mangold

Washington

Smith

Who are the other two making "major contributions" this year?

Drew Coleman has started the last two games at CB and Eric Smith has played a bunch on ST and safety in the dime. The 7th rounder is still on the PS, Schlegel's been inactive, and Clemens is holding the clipboard so that has to be the other two he was referring to.

Article says out 3-4 weeks. Probably more, knowing Abe.

Abraham has surgery; out 3 to 4 weeks

By STEVE WYCHE

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Published on: 10/24/06

Flowery Branch _ Falcons defensive end John Abraham will miss the next three to four weeks after having surgery Tuesday morning to repair a tear in a lower abdominal muscle. The injury is related to, but not solely linked to, a groin injury that has sidelined Abraham for four of Atlanta's six games, according to coach Jim Mora.

Fair enough.

I forgot about Coleman and Eric Smith.

Halloween is coming. Is this 'Ring and Run'? Heh, seriously, I don't EVER like to see anyone hurt. It's a horrible sentiment. That being said, something like this is just another intangible indicator that our inner mojo has indeed changed. As in you-just-can't-script-it is somebody else's bad luck. As in NOT the same old Jets. Nope. Not. The worm has definitely turned for us, man. Get well soon, Johnny Glass Abs.
