Former Bears and Patriots linebacker Rosevelt Colvin did an interview earlier today on Sirus NFL Radio, and stated that despite his release from the Pats this offseason, he’s already gotten some calls from teams in regards to his services. Two teams that Colvin pointed out as being in contact with are the Cleveland Browns and the New York Jets, two teams that could use some help at the LB spot.

Last season Colvin played in 11 games, making just 27 tackles, four sacks and one interceptions. In five seasons with the Pats, he was never quite the player they thought he would be. His first season was scrapped with an injury that ended his season after just two games. In 2004 he had just 32 tackles, and in 05 61. In Chicago his best season was 2001, when he had 70 tackles, 10.5 sacks and two picks.

Colvin pointed out his history with Browns coach Romeo Crennel, who was the Pats D-coordinator during part of his tenure there. He was a fourth-round pick of the Bears back in 1999. Colvin will land a job somewhere, and you can bet the Browns and Jets will keep their options open to seeing where he fits in their plans.

Now THIS is a signing I'm dying to see be made. Sure we have Gholston, Pace and Thomas, but Colvin is a veteran who has won championships and can play basically anywhere in the 34 and be a great locker room addition. Also, you can look at it this way:

Bryan Thomas - so far looks like a one year wonder -- has to prove the organization wrong in 2008.

Calvin Pace - best year was 6 1/2 sacks last season, could he fall off the face of the earth ala Thomas?

and

Vernon Gholston - rookie who wasn't a Top 10 choice before workouts -- will he be a stud or a workout warrior?

Bringing in Colvin on a one or two year deal would not be a bad move at all. :Typotux:

I hate bryan thomas will all of my being. With that said, i think he will turn in a good season knowing that no team will touch him if he gets beat out by a rookie and is FA that was probably brought in to replace his worthless work ethic.

Thomas has to know his NFL career got a lot shorter after our first round pick...unless he starts trying like he did in 2006.

With that said, i would like to see colvin before Olivea, only because i don't trust Barton in the middle, and like 124 said, i don't trust a rookie, or the two well paid one year wonders.

Agreed. You can never be too loaded at that position in the 3-4. I would like to see him brought in.

Reasons for Cleveland over Jets for Colvin

1. His former defensive coach is the head coach of the Browns.

2. His buddy Willie Mcginest will pirsue him to come to the Browns.

3. Cleveland has more money to play with.

4. He would most likely get more playing time in Cleveland.

5. I don't think he would go from NE to a division rival. He seems like a loyal guy tot he NE organization.

Yes I would like him on this team, but I don't see him picking us unless we give him A LOT more money than Cleveland.

God I hated Colvin more than almost anyone on those Pats teams...I never say this but I honestly don't even think I could root for him even if he was in Green and White...He just seems like such a dick.

How the hell did you gain a severe disliking for Rosey Colvin? While he was in New England he either wasn't on the field or he was making plays quietly. The Patriot I cant stand the most is Junior "One play a game and I'm done" Seau. How anyone can root for such a pompus, ****y jerkoff is beyond me.

He won't get much money. It's all about the chance to play. Does he think that the Jets or the Browns are more likely to get him playing time. He's trying to re-establish his career. That is why the two prior NE defensive coaches are the potential next stop. As far as allegiance to a team that cuts you, ask Lawyer Milloy, who went to Buffalo or Ty Law who played for the Jets. Familiarity with the system and the chance to play are the mutual draw.

I would agree with most of your reasons but if it were me I'd love to stick it to Beliprick for having cut me.

4761.jpg Texans considering Colvin?

Rosevelt Colvin | Patriots | Interested: Texans?

Colvin was scheduled to visit with the Texans on Wednesday, according to multiple reports. Hampered by a foot injury, the free-agent linebacker started only 10 games for the Patriots last season, registering four sacks. The Texans are viewing Colvin as a possible pass-rushing presence to complement Mario Williams.
