Fans, can you feel it? Coaches, can you taste it? Players, can you hear it?!?!?!

Yes, thats right, its a new season folks, and it starts tonight at 7:30pm as the '08 Jets prepare to take on the '08 Browns in week 1 of preseason!!!!

The Jets and their big acquisitions (including the newest one in Brett Favre) this offseason will be taking the field for the first time tonight against a team that came out of the '07 season angry about being jipped a playoff spot despite finishing 10-6.

I'm assuming Favre won't be the starting QB, as he's only been with the team for about 2 hours till this point, so it'll be interesting to see what happens between Pennington and Clemens, the two QB's previously thought to be competing for the Jets starting job. I'm pretty much willing to bet the farm that Clemens gets the start, considering its very possible that Chad will be either cut or traded by kickoff.

We'll also see how this completely retooled team gels, as we have new starters at so many new positions on both sides of the ball.

Should be a fun season guys....Here's to the beginning!!!!

Jets to introduce Favre in Cleveland on Thursday

Brett Favre will be introduced as the new quarterback of the New York Jets at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday in Cleveland, where the team is scheduled to play its preseason opener.

Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum was in southern Mississippi on Thursday morning to meet with and pick up Favre, ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting. They will fly to New Jersey on Thursday afternoon and then to Cleveland on Thursday evening for the Jets' news conference and preseason game against the Browns.

The Brett Favre era in Green Bay officially came to an end late Wednesday night as the legendary longtime Packers quarterback was traded to the Jets. Although Favre still must pass a physical and a run test, the NFL managing council has approved the deal.

The Packers will receive a fourth-round draft pick in 2009 in return for Favre. The selection would turn into a third-rounder if Favre plays in 50 percent of the plays this season, a second-rounder if he plays in 70 percent and the Jets make the playoffs, or a first-round pick if he plays in 80 percent and the Jets make it to the Super Bowl.

The Packers had been talking with the Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers since deciding earlier this week that the team and the three-time MVP couldn't coexist.

However, on Thursday morning, Buccaneers general manager Bruce Allen denied that his team ever had serious interest in acquiring Favre.

"There was no negotiations,'' Allen said. "There was never any substantive talk about what they would take to trade him. All of that was speculation. From the beginning, I think it was clear that it was a bad situation in Green Bay and they had to deal with it any way that they could.''

Allen denied the Bucs made an offer to the Packers and downplayed Tampa Bay's interest as nothing more than minor curiosity.

"It really never got to that,'' Allen said. "We always look at any type of scenario we can find that can help the Buccaneers. That's our No. 1 priority, helping this team -- if it was going to be a double trade or a triple trade or in any form that we can help the Bucs. We will always listen.''

That's contrary to statements from Favre and agent James "Bus" Cook yesterday that they were in talks with the Bucs and the Jets and those were the only teams involved.

"There's quite a few players in the league that have an interest in coming to Tampa Bay,'' Allen said. "Without getting into the tampering rules of the league, I think that's a credit to what we're doing. The system would fit a lot of players. I'll let him talk about his situation. There were, I think, about 18 teams that had permission to talk to him. The fact that people want to play here, we consider that a credit.''

The Packers decided to move forward with Aaron Rodgers as their starter after Favre announced his retirement in March.

"This is really a bittersweet time for the organization," Packers president Mark Murphy said at a news conference Thursday. "I think we're all sad to see Brett Favre's career as a Packer end."

Given their commitment to Rodgers, team officials weren't particularly receptive when Favre decided just over a month ago that he might want to play after all -- the latest development in several years' worth of flip-flopping about his football future.

"I think all parties involved felt this was the best result for a difficult situation," Packers' general manager Ted Thompson said

Thompson said the Packers will review how the situation was handled, saying, "I'm not sure we didn't make mistakes."

Jets chairman and CEO Woody Johnson issued a statement early Thursday.

"I am looking forward to seeing Brett Favre in a New York Jets uniform," Johnson said. "He represents a significant addition to this franchise, and reflects our commitment to putting the best possible team on the field. Mike Tannenbaum and his football administration staff did a great job of navigating this complex process. I am excited about welcoming Brett, Deanna and their family to the Jets organization."

The NFL Network also is reporting that the Packers took great pains to ensure that Favre would not be traded to the Vikings by inserting a "poison pill" in the deal. If Favre were to be traded to Minnesota, New York would have to surrender three first-round picks to Green Bay.

"We just felt like this was an opportunity to go get somebody of Brett's stature and what he's accomplished," Tannenbaum said in a conference call early Thursday morning. "We felt it was in the best interest of the team, and when the opportunity presented itself, we felt it was the right move for us to make and we went ahead and did it."

A number of fans made it clear throughout training camp that they wanted Favre on the Jets with signs and "Get Brett!" chants. Favre's new No. 4 Jets jersey already was for sale on the team's Web site about an hour after the trade was announced.

Tannenbaum, who said he had a "good" conversation with Favre, wouldn't speculate as

to whether the quarterback will play in New York beyond this season.

The arrival of Favre signals the end of Chad Pennington's career with the Jets.

Tannenbaum said there would be another transaction regarding Pennington, who spent his first eight seasons with the Jets.

"It's a bittersweet moment for us," Tannenbaum said. "I have all the respect in the world for Chad as a person, as a player. We've accomplished a lot of good things with Chad.
