****THE OFFICIAL BIG EAST BBALL THREAD****

Anyone watching the Lville - WVU game... If not turn on ESPN right now. Its gunna be a great finish.

And BTW... Dick Vitale of all people just said that in 30 years announcing he's never seen a conference top to bottom as strong as the Big East this year.

Dick vitale is a moron. The conf may not even be the best THIS YEAR, it is very debateable. The current BE is nothing compared to the BE of the mid 80s or the ACC of the 80s and 90s. His logic is that ND and Gu were once top 10 teams and they fell off in conf play but neither was impressive in non-conf play either so that shatters that misguided theory.

Just so we know a little about dick vitale. In the 1999-2000 season he had a preview magazine where he picked Michigan State to win it all then on his TV preview special long after his magazine printed he had MSU around 5th or so and picked someone else. When MSU eventually won the title he was crowing how he picked them to win it all. He is a phony.

There is literally no difference between a 1 & 2 seed in the tournament.

None.

PERSONALLY? I think it should be Pitt as the #1 overall seed, UNC, UConn, & L'ville. I think the 2's should be Oklahoma, Duke, Michigan State, Memphis.

They will not have 3 #1s b/c teams will get picked off in the conf Tourney. UConn is alreayd playing like a team that doesn't desevre it. UL beat up on the bottom half, got lucky they played a few good teams when they were struggling and have the 1 good win at home vs. Pitt. They were terrible in non-conf, if UL wins the BE Tourney they will deserve a 1 along w/ UConn or Pitt- whoever has the better showing in the BE Tourney.

you think he rests in acc tourney???

If he's hobbling I'd like to see him rest, he said after the game he expects to be fine by Friday but you never know. at least he wasn't as affecte by it as he was the ankle last year. Even when the ankle was pretty much healed he was still very tentatvive while yesterday he didn't look 100% but he wasn't tentative which is a good sign though he did get the toe shot up and I don't know if they can keep doing that.

Interesting statement by a sportwriter in paper this morning:

"

BIG EAST

In the most convoluted bracket in the history of brackets, the Big East created double byes for the top four teams in its 16-team tournament.

The theory apparently was to use the league's bottom four teams as NCAA Tournament fodder for Cincinnati, Georgetown and other conference bubble teams.

But karma bit the Bearcats and Hoyas, who instead of securing easy wins lost their double-secret probation games to DePaul -- 0-18 in regular-season conference play -- and St. John's, respectively.

After Tuesday's failures, look for the Big East to announce it is adding East Carolina, Longwood, St. Bonaventure and N.J.I.T. to the league, granting the top eight teams a bye into a best-of-seven, round-robin finals in 2010.?

Ha.

The reason for the byes is to do a favor for the top seeds. Since they are all pretty much tournament locks... The Big East doesn't want to screw them by making them play 5 games in 5 days (or 4 games in 4 days) with less than a week's rest until the NCAA's start. The tournament fodder this person speaks of is just an added bonus.

double byes is very very odd, and obviosuly an attempt to get middle tier 2 more wins
