Jets C Nick Mangold did not participate in the portion of practice open to the media, spending most of the time off to the side with the team's trainers doing light work.

Mangold missed a majority of the Jacksonville game as well as the Oakland game with a high ankle sprain.

He was joined by S Donald Strickland (head injury) and Ropati Pitoitua. Pitoitua's injury was unclear. All three were doing some jogging and agility drills.

DB Isaiah Trufant (hamstring) was not out on the field. Rex Ryan had said Monday that he sustained a pretty serious hamstring pull.

OLB Garret McIntyre (concussion) was on the field.

And as for QB Mark Sanchez, who winced after bashing his throwing hand off Vince Wilfork's helmet on Sunday, he threw a few balls in the portion of practice we saw and looked fine.

Here are the new numbers for the recent acquisitions: WR Michael Campbell is No. 84, DB Ellis Lankster is No. 26 and S Tracy Wilson is No. 37.

Wilson was added to the active roster today and Campbell was signed to the practice squad, GM Mike Tannenbaum said.

I'm sure its routine. It seems these days that any major player who is even mildly hurt sits out the Wed practice. Megatron hasn't seen a Wed practice in three years.

And it certainly doesn't appear to hinder Megatron's performance, heh. Center and WR are very different, obviously, but Mangold really doesn't need the extra work. At this point its just about pain tolerance for him.

Could be they are just letting him rest/heal up more during the early part of the week. Not having a full practice schedule isn't necessarily a bad idea. Plus, Baxter can use the reps.

Yeah, think you nailed it with this one. The guy isn't exactly in desperate need of the reps while an extra day of healing could be of a lot more benefit to him. He looked fine out there on Sunday and there's little reason to believe there were any issues then or since.

he did get up slow on a few plays last week, but rex said he is going to play

Mangold gets up slow on a handful of plays every game, regardless of injury. Most lineman in general do that, but I have noticed it moreso with Mangold in his handful of seasons here. (kind of like jim brown...get up like you can barely move after every play, even though you aren't hurt).

Freeman McNeil...used to hobble, limp and do that exagerated swaying walk back to the huddle...then bam! Loved that guy.

Pretty sure the Jets are just giving mangold the time to heal . The best way to do that is limit his practice reps its not like he does not know this offense inside and out . I think its a smart move to probably continue to rest him and give some of the young guys some reps who certainly need them more than the best Center in the NFL .
