Snacks

Damon Harrison aka 'Snacks' had a terrific game and looks to me like a poor man's Kris Jenkins. The Jets potential on that defensive line is incredible. Wilkerson is a beast (though I wish he would quit jumping offside) and Coples played pretty well. But it is on the interior with Harrison, Garay and Douzable that most impressed me. Not a new Sack Exchange but could be better against the run than the Klecko, Gastineau crew. Also, Davis showed a lot at LB too.

I thought Garay was cut?  Anywho, Snacks looks for real. He flashed at times last year but this year has been a beast in the middle.  Can shed a block(or blockers) AND track a RB behind the line.

He was.  Ellis played some.  I think Coples made a big difference.  He looked really athletic out there and a guy like him can let speedsters like Barnes and Davis get free runs.  Those guys do not take long to get there.

Klecko was awesome in every way. Gastineau was the weak link against the run, almost got poor Lance Mehl killed.

I know playing a rookie QB had a lot to do with it, but in the first game with the full compliment for the front 7 (getting Coples back), the Jets had 8 sacks and were damn close on a couple more.

I saw 8 sacks but I'd be intersted in finding out how many knockdowns they had. It seemed to me like he was on his backside a lot...

Klecko was always my fave, but got hurt too much in his later career. He should be in the Hall of Fame I think, but his felony arrest will go against him. I misspoke about Garay, I mistake him for Barnes, who played very well. My bad.

The box scores say 16 "QB hits" on ESPN.  In addition to the 8 sacks, they also had 12 tackles for loss.  The were swarming.  Awesome to watch.

I'd say that Rex won the battle vs. his old DC.

Rex showed how good of a man he is football aside, he was given every chance by the media to rip into Petine, and never once even threw out a friendly jab never mind a disrespectful one, he spoke glowingly off Petine every time, and was sincere to the fullest with each response, yet Rex is the classless HC in the NFL, and guys like Belicheck who throw their children under buses if will get them a win are who were supposed to believe is the class of the NFL.  The bad rap Rex gets as a person really pisses me off, he may not be the smartest HC, but he his a dam good coach X's. and O's, and if given the proper chance in time I believe he can get that experience needed to get to the smart side of the spectrum, and be one of the best HC's in this league.

He already is the one of the best HC's in the league.

Love seeing this guy on the field, but Mo Wilk reminds me more of a poor man Kris Jenkins.

Mo Wilk reminds me more of Bruce Smith, but either way, he's really coming on strong.  Not just that and I know I've mentioned it before, but a lot of these newer young guys are just so easy to root for because they seem like decent human beings.  Can you imagine actually having to cheer for Big Ben or some of those douches?

I would easily root for douches, if they deliver a SB like Big Ben. Love watching this front 7 play.

Garay and Barnes both played for the Chargers, but Barnes doesn't fit your interior line theory. Garay is about 320 and Barnes is a 250 lb pure speed edge rusher.  He would have had an easy sack yesterday, but was tackled from behind.  I was pissed because I didn't see the flag at first.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'd absolutely love to have him as our QB, but it is nice to have some young players who seem to be decent guys off the field.

We used to say the same thing about Revis when he released those home videos of hanging out with his friends.  He ended up being a complete D*ck who only cared about the money. Let's hope these guys don't end up that way.

There's actually a great story about it in Klecko and Joe Field's book "Nose to Nose."

Klecko missed a game when he was still a 4-3 DE and they shifted Gastineau over to his side and they ran at him all day. Mehl told Klecko if he ever missed another game he would kill him.

Never read the book (having heard Kleck talk I dont believe he is capable of writing a book) but you do mean The legendary Lance Mehl who  volunteered himself as a trial character witness for Jerry Sandusky's where under oath among other positive statements supporting Sandusky he described the pedo as "A class act"  ?

Mr Mehl by the way managed to play a full season a whopping 3 times in his Jet career.

Please, this hatred of Gastineau is just dumb.Neither he or Klecko were choir boys.

He was what he was, a pass rush specialist and one of the best ever.

He (and Klecko)would get paid a gazillion dollars if they played today.

Klecko hated him because he was getting more attention with the whole page 6 thing and sack record and such. Get over it.

Klecko >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gastineau

And that is being generous.

Gastineau was a one-dimsenional player who was a liability against the run.

Klecko hated him because he cost the Jets games with his stupidity and wasn't a team player.

You get over it.

Klecko is G-d. Gastineau was a dancing clown.

Thanks for straightening that out for me.

I think at this point Gastineau is one of the single most underrated players in Jets history.  Just cause the guy was a douche doesn't mean he couldn't play.

Klecko hated Gastineau because of the 'me first' attitude Mark always exhibited. He WAS a liability against the run. I remember a game against Miami where they kept tossing shovel passes to this little RB I never heard of (and haven't since) but the Fins won 45-3 and I think his name was Vigorito. But Marino kept hammering that shovel pass as Gasty kept rushing upfield. He was a remarkable athlete who could have been an all time great if he wasn't so selfish.

I agree with this mostly, but I also think that because he had a bad attitude everybody ganged up on him in the press and he got blamed for every ill the team had on D.  I don't think they tested for cocaine back then and it was party time

That would be the coaching staffs fault for not making in game adjusments. Subing for him in 1st and 2nd down etc.

He was a pass rush specialist. He wasnt Reggie White.  I'm not sure why people trash him for that.
