Hakeem Nicks available

Why would he sign a long term contract with anybody at this point unless they give him what he wants?    So you trade away a pick or two and sign him to some stupid contract, yeah that makes sense.      It would be like Revis accepting 10 mil a year to play with the Bucs.   No point in that unless you feel screwed.  The guy can wait it out and maybe get close to what he wants.  He probably won't, but most players and agents would rather go that route than accept an offer for far less than what they think they deserve.

To me this trade only makes sense for a team who could win the super bowl this year.  Any other team who trades for him is going to be out of a pick and the guy will walk in a year or they'll overpay somebody who isn't close to what he'll ask for.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on NFL Insiders Monday that the Giants are willing to listen to offers for Hakeem Nicks.

This comes directly on the heels of a Jason La Canfora report that "several teams" are preparing offers in an effort to acquire Nicks from the 0-6 Giants. The G-Men can plug Rueben Randle into the X receiver position across from Victor Cruz, and likely not lose much. "They are not shopping him," Schefter said of Nicks, who's in a contract year. "Will they listen to offers? Yes."

What do we think? Should we even be buyers this year?

If he comes with Eli, and the Jets also go get J Gordon, and a Joique Bell type of RB.

this team needs to focus on building through the draft, not buying at the height of the market and paying through the nose in free agency.

Agree but draft picks aren't a sure thing and we somehow manage to sometimes not pick the right guys.

give the Browns a 3rd this year and a 3rd next year for Gordon that kid can play. we are in bad shape in at WR.

We are in very bad shape Gordon would be an instant improvement to WR corps.

yeah and next year we could have as many as 3 3rd round picks maybe,Gordon is better then what we have now and giving him a contract with some out just in case he goes crazy or something. it would help gino out and develop him along.

3 3rd round picks WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Our #1 1st rounder this year cant seem to stay healthy enough to contribute a damn thing.

Do teams really use high draft picks (Randle) to build depth and have available to plug and play when the original high draft pick (Nicks) walks or maybe even fleece another desperate team into trading a pick for him?

Novel concept.  Wish my team followed this approach.

Seems to have worked wonders for them this year.  Their overall depth on the team sucks, as evidenced by them playing behind some horrid starters.  They ignore the OL in round 1 except when they're making MAAAAASSIVE reaches in round 1 (Pugh, and the last one before him was Petitgout back in the 1990s; each drafted 20+ picks too early).  Almost every position group on their team except the WRs is dogsh*t.  Maybe the DL, but they're always hurt.

Only a Jets fan would wish the team would right now be more like a team who is 0-6, 30th in points scored (17ppg), and 32nd in points surrendered (35ppg).

Giants are a mess, no doubt. Reese banked on some of these OL to pan out--Brewer and Boothe in particular--and they've been awful. The Pugh pick was straight Belichickian arrogance. But the most glaring unsaid problem with the Giants is Perry Fewell being awful. Reese is learning a hard lesson this year.

WOnder in Reese'e quiet moments if he knew this was going to be a down year perfect for housecleaning and the added bonus of maybe getting Clowney.

The Jets are never going to trade with the Jints because if the draft pick they give up ever becomes a player they will never live it down, And if you look at most of the WRs who get moved it almost never works out for the team getting the WR. A 3-3 team has no business dealing away draft picks for a WR looking for a long-term big ass contract.

I guess so...or we can trade another draft pick for a one-year rental/maybe re-sign him to Holmes-like contract cause, like you know...we're a WR away from a Super Bowl.

Child please!

Reese is an idiot.  Coughlin is twice as dumb as you accuse Rex of being.

But not as dumb as Mike McCoy.  Doesn't he know that in order to beat the Colts you have to pass? It's a passing league.  And this dolt has run the ball 30x so far, trying to win a defensive battle against a top-5 offense.

The Holmes signing was awesome.  If we could get Nicks for a 5th, by some miracle, only a f*cking idiot would turn that down. \

Truth is the Giants aren't letting Nicks go for less than a 3rd at the VERY lowest.  He's a UFA after this season, and if someone else signs him away then they'll get a 4th round compensatory pick (albeit a year later).

...and that provides us what for this year exactly?  We don't even know if the HC returns, never mind the OC or the newly acquired WR.

Makes zero sense for us...call me an idiot.

You're confusing me with someone who's howling to trade one of our top picks for Nicks, who needs a new contract right away.  It provides us with little for this year, as we are not superbowl contenders.  You trade for him only if you want to sign him long-term.
