Jetsfan80
None of the 3 QB's came out of this looking great: Manziel: 5 feet, 11 and 3/4 inches; 207 lbs; 9 and 7/8" hands This means that if Manziel goes in the 1st round as expected, he'll be the 1st QB under 6 feet drafted in the first round since 1953. Wilson became the first QB under 6 feet to win a Super Bowl last year, but is Manziel as good as Wilson? Will Manziel have the kind of roster surrounding him that Wilson has? Wilson didn't even play particularly well down the stretch or in the postseason en route to his championship. Manziel is expected to be taken by a bad team. Bridgewater: 6 feet, 2 and 1/8 inches; 214 lbs; 9 and 1/4" hands Bridgewater is simply too small at 214 lbs. And his hand size is even more concerning. Cold weather teams shouldn't even think about taking Bridgewater in the 1st round. Daunte Culpepper, for comparison, had 9.5 inch hands, and it was a big factor to him having fumbling problems his entire career (75 fumbles over a 5-year period from 2000-04, after which he became a nonfactor in the NFL). Bortles: 6 feet, 5 inches; 232 lbs; 9 and 3/8" hands Bortles basically has an ideal frame but his hands, like Bridgewater's, are on the smallish size for QB's. We knew all 3 QB's had some question marks going in from a standpoint of "can these guys play?" Now we know that they also have issues from a physical standpoint as well. It's no wonder the teams with the top 3 picks have all be rumored to be looking to move down.

Jetsfan80
No. But anyone who thinks Manziel is a Brees or Wilson in waiting is a moron. Wilson and Brees have the ability to pick apart a defense from the pocket. And Brees had to compensate for his lack of height by learning to crane his neck and seek out passing lanes. Teams that are able to take away his top option or get in the way of those passing lanes expose him. Just look what the Jets did to him this season. If even Brees has trouble with his height at times, it'll be even worse for Manziel. Manziel relied on throws that he'll never be able to make in the pro game, with Mike Evans making circus catches that few receivers can. Manziel wouldn't be worth a top 5 choice even if he was 6-3. His height just adds the final nail to the coffin.

dbatesman
Oh? Go on. 9.25 isn't that small. Obviously it 'd be better for everyone involved if he had giant Favre hands, but you're talking about dropping a guy 30-some spots because his hands are slightly smaller than average. May as well take him off your board entirely because he's 6'2" and not 6'5".

"Interesting point on an interview I just heard on sirius radio with Former QB/CBS analysis Phil Simms in regards to QB hand size measurments He said when they release the measurements of the QB's hand its based on the measurement from pinky to thumb, when what really matters (and what they should measure) is the measurement of your hand your wrist to the top of your middle finger...Said it should be based on how long your hand is not how wide." Jetsfan80
why can't Manziel make these throws in the pro game? Because the read option was effectively destroyed along with RG3's knee. If he's asked to stay in the pocket he's in trouble. Far too many of his throws were simply jump-balls that his 6-5 receiver happened to come down with. HessStation
He's also undersized. Aaron Rogers was 6'2 and 223 with, essentially, the same size hands. That's 9 lbs. Which is about 3 months worth in an NFL weight room and offseason meal plan. Now shut it.

(Unless he goes to the Jets) all this hate for small hand sizes how about the fact Johnny's are the same size as Cam Newtons btw Johnny isn't read option QB he's an air raid QB.
