SpartanJet
Trader Mike was awful in his time. I think he would have even been worse durring this period now that draft picks are like gold because of the slotted draft pick salaries. He never got the whole "build through the draft" idea making wild trades for other teams problems and that would have been an even more serious issue now. Not to mention that the last few years of his "drafts" left the Jets with almost no viable backups and in salary cap hell.

jgb
Is Trader Mike better than Mr. $20mil Idzik? Of course he is. Tannenbaum was relentless, unlike the Mr. Calm. His downfall was the gurantees he offered to Holmes, Sanchez, Pace and Bart Scott. At the time, they were not the worst decision. But Bart declined rapidly, Holmes turned into a trouble child and Sanchez was left with nobodies. At least tanny wanted to win. Idzik wants to win bargain hunters boobie prize

Imagine tanny+sanchez+chip kelly right now. HessStation
he bombed on the Vlad pick, Hill Pick, and Coples pick, and the Tebow mess was stupid in which he probably still kicking himself today for. But if that Vlad pick had worked out then maybe that would have helped both the running game and cut down on Sanchez ints but who knows. I only mention Coples because they needed to go offense in 1st round that year and they didnt. They knew what they had in vlad they could have taken DeCastro or some other OL or even WR. Whatevs - woulda shoulda coulda is Vlad still starting for the Viking. I know they stink but that one Monday...or Sunday... or whatever night game they played in, Vlad didn't look that bad. SMC
Tannenbaum traded for Tebow. That's a per se firable offense. It's like treason. There is no such thing as "a little treason." Tanny's only defense would be if Rex was the one who pushed for Tebow, Plax and Mason. Based on Rex ' s skewed view of offensive football that might be a possibility. Not to mention that the last few years of his "drafts" left the Jets with almost no viable backups and in salary cap hell. Imagine if he wasn't awful? Two SB rings I guess. And no, we were not in salary cap hell. •On the salary cap — a situation Tannenbaum was almost brazen in his defense: "You’ll see in the next six weeks how it will pay out. There was a plan … there’s a very detailed plan there." He added that he wouldn’t be surprised if new GM John Idzik followed his plan, with a few small tweaks, and said he’d be happy to come back on the radio in a few weeks to point it out. What did Idzik do to that anyone with half the brains couldn't figure it out? Nothing. Revis would have been a Jet in 2013 (giving us $3 extra mil for the yr). He probably would have been a Jet forever, saving us from this yrs embarrassing secondary play.
slats
He built through the draft when Mangini was here. Prior to Idzik, the coach shopped for the groceries. The team they "built" went 4-12. Then he made room for Brett Favre and they won some games - before Brett Favre got hurt and they finished 1-4. He, or they - depending on who's getting the credit at any given time, didn't build crap outside of an OL and Revis.

Ex-Rex
Tannenbaum was a reacher and a risk taker and most of the time he missed on his reaches. Gholston, Stephen Hill, Vlad Ducasse, Kyle Wilson, Dustin Keller were all guys that could have been had in lower rounds or in the case of Hill and Ducasse could have been had as a FA. Tanny's biggest miss IMO was not taking Joe Flacco and "settling" on Brett Favre - who by his own admission was a one year Jet. I don't think Iggy has a clue about talent. For being a college WR he certainly does not know WR talent. I don't think the Jets have had a good GM since Jim Royer / Mike Hickey combo that hired Walt Michaels and gave us Joe Fields, Klecko, Marvin Powell, Freeman McNeil etc...Dick Steinberg sucked, Bradway was halfway decent but not outstanding and the rest just blow. ebonix
Until he extended Sanchez and his last Draft, yes he is better than JI. Tanny's early years were good for us. But he gave Sanchez and Santonio too much of Woody's money and the cap went out of control too. The o-line of Alan Fanaca , Damien Woody, Brandon Moore, etc--- was really good for us; then it all went south. Idzik have not proved very much,-- except he can save money. Maybe they can find a desk for him in the back offices where he works on the contracts; and leave the draft picks to us.

Maybe they can find a desk for him in the back offices where he works on the contracts; and leave the draft picks to us. .....from Cimini : //..................... A bye-week examination of the Idzik 12 picks-- Round 1 -- Calvin Pryor, safety Quite frankly, Pryor deserved to lose his starting job to Jaiquawn Jarrett. He hasn't produced (no impact plays) and he evidently still is learning what it takes to be a professional. He was late for multiple meetings, frustrating teammates and people in the organization. On the field, he doesn't play well in space and takes bad angles when playing the deep middle. He misses too many tackles (10, according to Pro Football Focus) for a guy who's supposed to be a big-time tackler. The Jets, attributing his struggles to typical growing pains, still believe he has a bright future. Round 2 -- Jace Amaro, tight end I still remember the day in training camp when he dropped a pass (one of many) and a defensive player yelled out, "Can't catch a cold!" Amaro still is having problems with drops (a total of four, according to ESPN Stats & Information), but he's having a nice rookie season. More of a possession receiver than a deep-seam threat, he leads rookie tight ends with 34 receptions. He doesn't have the explosiveness to be an elite, new-age tight end, but he still has a fairly high ceiling. Round 3 -- Dexter McDougle, cornerback He was considered a reach in the third round after missing most of the 2013 season with a busted-up shoulder. Sure enough, he got hurt again, blowing out a knee in a routine training-camp drill. Truth be told, he was off to a slow start in camp, but he still factored into the team's 2014 plans -- until the injury. They're counting on him for 2015, but he'll be coming off two lost seasons in a row. Round 4 -- Jalen Saunders, wide receiver This was a terrible pick, especially when you consider the depth of the 2014 receiving class. Drafting a receiver last spring was like shooting fish in a barrel -- and the Jets missed everything, including the barrel. The undersized Saunders was cut four weeks into the season after muffing two punts. At the time, he was the highest-drafted rookie to be released. When you're 5-foot-9, you'd better have magical moves -- and he doesn't. Currently, he's a member of the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad. Round 4 -- Shaq Evans, wide receiver After a drop-filled start to training camp, Evans injured his shoulder and underwent season-ending surgery. He was drafted three spots ahead of wide receiver Martavis Bryant (six touchdowns), who is lighting it up for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Evans might not have the separation skills to succeed on this level, but he'll get another shot next summer in camp. Round 4 -- Dakota Dozier, guard This is basically a redshirt year for Dozier, who remains on the 53-man roster but has yet to dress for a game. A former college tackle, he's learning that the game is faster and more physical as a guard. The two guard jobs figure to be up for grabs next summer, with Dozier, Oday Aboushi and Brian Winters the leading candidates among the younger crowd. Round 5 -- Jeremiah George, linebacker This pick never made sense. He's only 5-foot-10, 220 pounds, too small to play linebacker in Rex Ryan's scheme. The Jets cut him in training camp, with the hope of adding him to the practice squad, but he bolted for the Jacksonville Jaguars. George has played in only two games (10 defensive snaps). Larz
tanny was a master closer. he sold favre on the hunting in NJ on woodys estate. he signed 4 1st round picks with no hold outs in the end, he went with the "go for it" approach, with a small window. and plugged in a rookie QB to a very good team.
