Amed Rosario ranked 15th on BP's midseason top 50:

I think this is partly why Sandy deserves some degree of kudos for how he handled the Mets middle infield during the off season.

He targeted short contracts with players that could provide better defense while also adding power when you combine the two positions compared to last seasons starters. All the while knowing that he had players in the system that projected decently as their future replacements.

He did so at a time when it appeared we would surely lose Cespedes and his 30 plus bombs.

On a side note I would not mind in the least if he resigned Walker as he seems to have some leadership qualities. Murphy is a joy to watch with the stick this season but we didn't do too bad with Walker.

I was also one who wanted to go with Flores at SS and overlook his defensive faults but Cabrera has been a nice addition and one of our better players this season.

Yeah, the Mets staying low commit in the MIF after missing Zobrist was a good idea. Walker and Cabrera are competent players from good orgs on very low commit deals. Walker came with the added benefit of getting rid of Neise when he was clearly the odd man out on the pitching staff. Cabrera was a clever signing the minute it was made, Flores' .295 OBP in a full time role had no place in a first division starting lineup twice in a row.

Not sure how you sit Flores right now but Terry always seems to prove me wrong.

Well this explains a lot.

Matt Harvey has been diagnosed with "symptoms consistent with thoracic outlet syndrome" and is considering undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery.

Harvey flew out to St. Louis on Thursday to meet with Dr. Robert Thompson, the nation's leading specialist in TOS. And the news obviously wasn't good. If the right-hander does go under the knife, he might not be ready to pitch again until mid-2017. Other starting pitchers have failed to return from that surgery, or had their skills greatly diminished. It's absolutely terrible news.

I've followed Harvey since he was a senior in HS competing with Mark Rogers and Jay Rainville to be the top arm on the East Coast. I remember when he was a skinny, straight over the top HS RH with a big slow curve to go with his fastball. The guy has had a sh*t ton of ups and downs, the wagon filling and emptying throughout college and the minors, and this one is going to tough. By all accounts he's a good dude too, popular, generous, and career oriented. Hopefully he can avoid the knife and gets to go the PRP route, that would probably be huge for his individual future vs. getting cut open again.

Terry Collins is a "forest, not the trees" type of manager, and always has been.  He's great at handling personalities and is a terrific leader for both veteran and young players alike.  They respect him and like playing for him.  Where he loses out sometimes is in the little details and situational baseball, and lest I come off as trying to wave those off, those things do matter for an MLB manager.

But I prefer the former skillset over the latter if you can only choose 1/2.  Give me a "big picture" type of manager that can handle the pressure of NY over a tactician who pisses off his players or can't handle the media/fan pressure.  If you can find someone who handles both perfectly, that would be awesome, but you usually can't find that unless you're extremely lucky.

One day TC will move on and we'll probably see Wally Backman take over.  But for now I'm cool with TC.  He is what he is and for the most part, I think his Pros outweigh the Cons.  Thus I try not to get too pissed off over individual decisions he makes, even when they're frustrating and occasionally cost us games.

Well said and spot on. I think his strengths are lost on some fans because they are not entirely visible just at game time. They're more apparent when one follows the team closely and pays attention to all the dynamics at play, when interviews, pressers, bench activity, etc, from everybody involved...Players, coaches, Sandy, and Terry himself, are observed.

I watch most of his pressers and post game comments and have hardly ever heard an explanation by him regarding moves that wasn't acceptable or didn't make sense. Terry is dumb like a fox and is shrewd in his game management, imo.

Over the years I've seen a good number of fans express the notion that Terry is some sort of liability, or that he can't game manage, when really he's done an exceptional job managing a roster that has been lacking for the most since he's been here. The media hasn't helped him either.

He handled the pitching staff well last year when it started to come together. He handled adversity well also.

With the young position players starting to make it through the system that part of the roster will be built more to what Sandy would like it to be. Until that point the roster has been a piecemeal affair. particularly at the top of the lineup, and some fans wanted them to play a certain way when the personnel was never conducive to that.

No idea what type of guy Kevin Long is, but if he's got the personality for the job I'd like to see the reigns go to him. What he's done the past two years is remarkable.

Are you watching the same offense that I've been watching?

How do you leave Tolo out there after the way that inning had been going? Come on man.

Because there's three and a half games left to play and you lost a starter to boot?

Another bomb. The ball has been carrying at Citi like a mother ****er lately.

Gary thinks it's the ball, and maybe he's right. But every time this has happened there's been a hard southerly wind. I live on the South Shore and there has been noticeable warm hard winds every time.

Hard Southerly Wind sounds like the name of a poorly conceived Rush cover band.

I like Rush. Negative on any Rush cover band tho. Yikes

Actually on the water that's a common phrase. Particularly saltwater fishing.....I don't think it's a coincidence tho. Humid, warm, and strong winds. Maybe on top of a juiced ball. WhoTF knows

Havent posted here in a while, so if its been discussed, apologies. I am having a hard time with the Reyes signing. I loved Reyes when he was here, but man, what he did is really, really bad. Really wish they did not sign him.

You don't know what Reyes did.  None of us really do.  It could have been really awful or it could have been a simple shove because his wife was in his face hitting him and they were both drunk.  I try to look at it this way, she forgave him, so can I.

Any Reyes haters want Wally as the manager?

I want Lenny Dykstra to be Wally's hitting coach. Or better yet, Wally's bench coach. Those guys will show 'em how to do it
