Jetlife33
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Tampa is expected to engage Chris Godwin in talks on a long-term contract before the March 9 deadline for applying the franchise tag, and if those talks do not result in a deal, it sounds as if the team is prepared to use the tag on the Pro Bowl wideout (Twitter link). looks like 1 of the big FA targets of ours won’t happen. Jetsfan4life90
If they use the tag on Godwin, then they can't use it on Shaq Barrett. I wonder if Barrett will be a Jets target in that case.
derp
On one hand I’m not surprised and on the other hand it seems shortsighted. They’ve got Evans already, Brown on a cheap deal, and some younger receivers. Seems like plenty of passing game weapons and Godwin didn’t make a huge impact for them this year. Would think their pass catchers minus Godwin are more than adequate for Brady while he’s there, and once Brady’s gone I don’t think a bunch of cap space used on Evans and Godwin is a way to build a team. Trying to work out something long term with Barrett and then franchising and moving Godwin seems like better good long and short term plan for them. They’ve got a little space but lots of FA’s.

Jetlife33
Luckily a few really good WR’s should still shake loose, but I know many here liked Godwin.
Paradis
I would find a way to keep Godwin too. The cliff on Mike Evans isn't too far away and if you want to keep Tom around and Lombardi's on the horizon - you find a way to hold onto the WR who fits the mold Tom's relied on his whole career. bla bla bla
Probably don't want to tag Barrett with the 2nd tag since it's 120% of the last tag whereas tagging Godwin will give them a steal of a deal. New Franchise Tag value = average of the top 5 at your position, averaged over the last 5 years! Basically saving 10% on last year's WR tag

joewilly12
Allen Robinson or Ju-Ju Smith Schuster and DeVonta Smith,JaMaar Chase,Jaylen Waddle.
jetstream23
Bring back Mims (rookie deal), Crowder (1 year left), Perriman (another short term FA deal), and then do the ole "Sign one, Draft one" approach. Get a FA, if not Godwin then a Robinson would be dynamite but even a Golloday would be great if he's healthy. Then Draft a guy in Round 3. That would be a great group 5 and then you let the Berrios, Malone, and Smith x 2 battle it out for possible 6th spot or to grab PS spots (depending on the PS rules next year). Prodigal Syndicate
They need to do what they can to keep Shaq Barret. If its between Barret and Godwin I'm keeping barret. But I suppose they want to keep Tom happy.

This is actually good news; if they have to use the tag on Godwin, they can't tag Barrett, who would immediately be our top FA target. And the premium edge rusher market is a lot emptier than the WR1 market this offseason (Robinson and likely Golladay will be available) so give me Barrett over Godwin, please
rayzor
I prefer Curtis Samuel. Better imo. Younger. Cheaper.

SomebodytoAnybody47
Wonder if there's any Stefon Diggs type trades that will be available for the right price. Would much rather get a proven WR then draft one, especially if we're coming back with Sam.

You gotta factor in who's throwing to them too and Samuel had more receptions, yards and YAC. IMO Godwin isn't worth the $4M more he might get. Samuel isn't even the best wr on his his team let alone better than Godwin.
