Chris Godwin expected back to TB

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Tampa is expected to engage Chris Godwin in talks on a long-term contract before the March 9 deadline for applying the franchise tag, and if those talks do not result in a deal, it sounds as if the team is prepared to use the tag on the Pro Bowl wideout (Twitter link).

looks like 1 of the big FA targets of ours won’t happen.

On one hand I’m not surprised and on the other hand it seems shortsighted. They’ve got Evans already, Brown on a cheap deal, and some younger receivers. Seems like plenty of passing game weapons and Godwin didn’t make a huge impact for them this year.

Would think their pass catchers minus Godwin are more than adequate for Brady while he’s there, and once Brady’s gone I don’t think a bunch of cap space used on Evans and Godwin is a way to build a team.

Trying to work out something long term with Barrett and then franchising and moving Godwin seems like better good long and short term plan for them. They’ve got a little space but lots of FA’s.

Bring back Mims (rookie deal), Crowder (1 year left), Perriman (another short term FA deal), and then do the ole "Sign one, Draft one" approach.  Get a FA, if not Godwin then a Robinson would be dynamite but even a Golloday would be great if he's healthy.  Then Draft a guy in Round 3.  That would be a great group 5 and then you let the Berrios, Malone, and Smith x 2 battle it out for possible 6th spot or to grab PS spots (depending on the PS rules next year).

This is actually good news; if they have to use the tag on Godwin, they can't tag Barrett, who would immediately be our top FA target. And the premium edge rusher market is a lot emptier than the WR1 market this offseason (Robinson and likely Golladay will be available) so give me Barrett over Godwin, please

Better? Lmao you are joking right.

Not joking.  Watch the tape.  Samuel looks like a smoother pass catcher.    You gotta factor in who's throwing to them too and Samuel had more receptions, yards and YAC.  IMO Godwin isn't worth the $4M more he might get.

Ya you are wrong. That's ok though. Samuel isn't even the best wr on his his team let alone better than Godwin.
