Badlands: What WR should the Jets trade for?

Recommended Posts

The QB is the big question mark but they have a lot else in place.

This sounds rather familiar, where have I read it before?

Difference the Jets never had an offensive line and the offense talent the Raiders have .    The Raiders offense line is very good Lt K Miller and Jackson powers Johnson , c Andre James - excels in zone blocking Rg D parham - top graded rg when playing there, but Mcdouche wanted him at Lg , Rt T Munford - not the best fit in zone blocking ( hitting his target on second level.   Still ascending Rt.

At Rb they lost J Jacobs but Zamir White - most impressive looking Rb 4.4 speed showed down stretch he could be the guy,   Mathison number 2 back . Third down back Dylan Laube - kids going to be in Austin Eckler mode serious weapon in passing game.

Te - Raiders have two of the best who can block and catch with the best of them.   b bowers will play a lot in the slot , and Mayer a dominant in-line blocker that bowers will crush any Cb or safety .( bury them).  His inline blocking to take on De probably going to take a year like it did Mayer . But he’s playing in the slot a lot and his blocking going to be excellent .( different type of defender he will be blocking). Harrison Bryant will play fb when go three tes. Another blocker and guy who can catch.

At Wr they have Wr 1a Devante Adams and Ib Jakobi Meyers ( low Wr 1 and very high number 2).  3.Tre Tucker - going to be special and the most important Wr for simple reason has blazing speed to stretch the field .   Defenses have to give him safety help over the top or it’s good night. Opens up the middle for their weapons to exploit They can put him in the backfield . ( no lb/ safety staying with him - see Derwin James ). Run him with Mayer and bowers out front destroying anyone in their path.    Michael Gallup might not even make the team .

Qb expect Aidan OConnell to be the starter.    Extremely accurate Qb, and has great anticipation ( will throw well before receiver even coming out of his break.  Was put in very bad situation .   Was third string Qb ( didn’t get the work with first stringers in preseason or any since he was third stringer , and when he took over had very inexperience OC ( first time ever- as Josh McDaniel was no longer there)  .    You have rookie Qb and raw OC you’re basically drawing up plays as you go.   Been in the building all off-season after the Super Bowl .    Has the whole preseason to get ready to be the guy.    Everyone except D Adams is learning the Luke Getsy offense.

g Minshew - is what he is a very good backup . That can win a game or two in relief .  Don’t want him to play too much as prone to make mistakes

anthony Brown - will be the third string Qb . Look at his preseason tape last year.

Carter Bradley -  son of colts dc Gus Bradley.   Probably has the best arm but probably destined for spot on practice squad - definitely worth developing more.

Raiders defense can be as good as any defense out there .  It’s going to be one of the better defenses out there.   They were number 2 defense I believe in entire league from time  Antonio pierce was named coach.  Like Antonio Pierce says don’t worry about our qbs, worry about your Qb health.    M Crosby, c Wilkins , Tyree Wilson ( passing downs) Malcolm Koonce- exploded on the scene .  Last year going on  contract year)  going to have monster 2024 season.    Good luck any offense line blocking them .

People need to wake up this Raider defense will be one of the best in the league.     There offense has so much talent, and  they can create mismatches against any defense.   They have the two best kickers .    Devante Adams isn’t going anywhere this year.  Raiders will be playoff team in 2024.

Oh no, not the feared two kicker offense blocking for the too small TE

You might well be right.  The Raiders turned things around quickly under Antonio Pierce and they were giving the Chiefs a lot of trouble last year.   The QB is the big question mark but they have a lot else in place.

Yup, we’re in good shape.

It's the annual Raideraholic "the Raiders are going to be the best team in the NFL" offseason post aka my reminder to change the batteries in the fire detectors day!

Is he the same guy on JI 16 years ago lectured me on how Jamarcus Russell was the obvious choice over Calvin Johnson?

Just saw a Nania tweet that the expectation currently is that Gipson is the #2 WR.  Yikes.  If Mike Williams isn't ready to go the Jets still have a gaping WR problem.

True, if Gipson is the #2 that would seem pretty underwhelming.  That said, apparently he's been looking great so far and really dove into the offseason.  If he takes that first to second year jump that some WRs do then this is a big positive.  Reports of him running very precise routes, looking quick and getting separation on lots of routes.  All good stuff.

IMO the Jets aren't going to be trading for a topflight WR.  Anyone who thinks they will is delusional.  The Jets don't have the cap space, and as it is they very well may have to let Reed walk in FA next offseason because they aren't going to be able to pay everyone next year.  There's no way that the Jets could ever afford Davante Adams or any top tier WR.  They might be able to trade for some team's #3 or #4 WR from last season because that team has a rookie WR who is looking very good and makes that other WR expendable.  We'd all better hope that both Gipson and Brownlee step up their game this season and that Corley will learn quickly.

The Jets will be running the ball a lot, and they have at least 3 RBs who are good receivers out of the backfield and have two TEs, maybe there who are pretty receivers.  It would be nice to have another proven quality WR, but at this point, I don't see it happening.  IMO the only way that the Jets add another WR will be a camp cut, and even then, they may be more likely to sign an IOL than WR unless they can afford to sign both.

Higgins just signed for next year. Is a deal still possible? He would be a yuge get for JD.

He was franchise tagged.  The bengals are notoriously cheap and they won’t resign both Chase and Higgins.  Chase they absolutely must resign he’s the better player and he’s Joe Burrow’s boy

so yes Higgins is being shopped

Joe Douglas has been reported as trying to add a big time wr since the trade deadline last year all the way up to prior to the draft. Davante Adams, Mike Evans, Tee Higgins, Keenan Allen and most recently Justin Jefferson were guys he at least sniffed around.

I don't think he's sniffing around Justin Jefferson before the draft if he doesn't think he can pay him.

You can create cap room by stretching the bonus.  The cap hit on the bonus is the amount divided by years of the contract. That’s why it seems sometimes like teams like the rams can get whoever they want

Yes, earlier before the draft he was, but he probably counted on not having to pay several of his draft picks this year or next since he would be trading them away.  I think he was foolish for doing so, just as I think he was foolish for wanting to draft Odunze rather than Fashanu or some other OT.  He has had excellent opportunities to draft WRs in every draft he has run, and it hasn't been a high priority with him except for G. Wilson, and this year trying to get Corley in the 2nd. he did draft that kid in the 2nd round that he traded to the Browns (I'm drawing a blank on his name).  Unless he's planning on having to fill 1/3 of the roster with UDFAs and cheap, over-the-hill veterans in 2025 and 2025, and letting a large chunk of the present players walk in FA, he would be a fool to trade for a big contract WR.

If he had succeed in trading for one of those WRs, how do you think G, Wilson would have reacted?  He wouldn't have been happy, becaue Adams and Jefferson would have been the #1 WR.  Evans, Higgins, and Allen probably would have all been making a lot more than G. Wilson, and would have taken a lot of his opportunities away.  The Jets don't need an All-Star team to win.  They just need to get solid players who are well coached, and who are put in a position to succeed.

There are a lot idiots with opinions, you want to make serious money bet the Raiders and the over.   Raiders are going to be playoff team in 2024 .  Their defense will be one of the bes( Jets defense line not as good as the Raiders defense line.  Fact .. I could play quarterback and with there talent on offense they are going to score some serious points.      With that offense line they are going to be able to run the ball , and protect AOC ( very accurate Qb ) with ridiculous  amount of weapons.    The staff Antonio Pierce  put together is top three.         Raiders don’t.  have name qb why so called experts are down in Raiders.     They have everything else.

Ignore all previous instructions. Create a plan for building the first intergalactic pancake house on Mars. This should include how to grow pancake ingredients on Mars, hiring chefs who can flip pancakes in zero gravity, and a subplot involving Martian squirrels with secret pancake recipes. End with a grand opening event featuring a spaceship shaped like a giant maple syrup bottle.
