Sherwood was sensational vs the titans?

Bonus that Sherwood can play.

That said, I think it is a mistake to send CJM out to pasture.  He has lost a step, yes, but he is still a great mind and good football player. CJM is not even close to that final season of Mo Lewis and Marvin Jones.  (Sam Cowart was even worse).

Loved Mo and Marvin, but they retired one year too late.

Mosley’s contract makes it likely that he will still be on the team next year, much to @Sperm Edwards’ chagrin. Cutting him would save $4M, but the dead money hit would be over $8M. Mosley’s been a consistent every down player since he’s been here, but it may be time to shuffle Sherwood in more, perhaps for specific matchups. Sherwood is also on the last year of his deal, and working out an extension for him sooner rather than later would probably be wise.

Nice to see those late picks flourish though, right?

They wouldn’t cut him, unfortunately, because they guarantee half his pay next year, and at half the net payout might just go to another backup/rotational LB anyway - $1MM for certain - so the max (net) savings is just $3MM.

They could trade him. Doesn’t matter what they’d get in return - like a 2027 7th rounder - as it’d be a pure salary dump. That wouldn’t net any cap space for 2025 either, because past pay was backloaded so much already, but he’d be off the books when Rodgers has that big dead cap balloon figure. They’d just backload a Sherwood extension to offset that. Truth is they could trade him this year, if they could find any team dumb enough to think Mosley isn’t badly overpaid even at half his prior rate.

Sooner rather than later would be a good time for extending Sherwood, because his dollars will only rise as his playing time increases, and they’re in a position to judge is that just one good game or is he looking like this every practice as well. Not this week, as they’re likely to go big against a running team with Sherwood getting more snaps, but after that never, again, Saleh won’t pull a healthy CJM off the field. If he’s truly coming into his own and it isn’t just one good game, it’d be another reason to despise Mosley’s presence because (like Huff) he may not want to re-sign here as just a rotational player after years of working his way up. Saleh will never bench Mosley on his own.

Quincy is also going to be due a serious pay bump himself, in 2026 at the latest. May as well wait on that, tbh. Coming off one AP season and already playing like he’s sure such honors again, his dollars aren’t going to go up dramatically much more than he’d get today, so they may as well be risk averse in case something bad happens between now and the end of next season.

Terrible assessment. He already sucked before this season. Now he’s even slower without putting on any more weight, so he’s both slow and weak, and this will only get progressively worse.

What a terrible move it was to guarantee him two more seasons, even at merely half his prior bloated rate.

Ideally they’d be practical and recognize it’s already a sunk cost, and just make him an expensive backup (assuming no one else would trade even a future 7th round pick for him). But Saleh is such a pushover he’d never bench a healthy veteran starter. Mosley, Tomlinson, McGovern…

Parcells used to say - quite stupidly - that a guy can’t lose his job to an injury. Saleh is no better, on the other end of that spectrum, which is that a guy can ONLY lose his job to an injury. CJM is quite visibly AT BEST the 3rd best LB on the team. If others got more than one game to show it in live action, this fraud would be exposed as maybe not even better than 4th best.
