What I Want To Read About Camp Thread

Recommended Posts

I want to read that Chad is throwing lasers all over the field. That Vilma is noticeably larger but has kept his speed. I want to read that Nugent did something crazy in the offseason and all of a sudden his kickoffs have touchback written all over them.

I also want to read how everyone made it through camp injury free. And that Wadsworth must have built a time machine because he is a beast. That the offensive line is opening holes for Thomas Jones and the young guys on the line have matured.

What do you want to read?

Have to go with the two top picks impressing Revis and Harris

Someone taking charge in the muddled defensive line rotation.

Kendall situation settled once for all and how good is Chrebet's restaurant.

first thing I want to read is that Revis and Harris have signed and will be IN camp. That Kendall is also on board but will be competing with Clarke for the starting LG job...I also want to hear that Kellen Clemens looks ready if needed-no questions asked...I do NOT want to see a repeat of what happened to us in '99---good thread...Jets football stuff

I want to read that in its 2nd year together, the Offensive Line has improved, and not only Mangold & D'Brick. I want to see pass protection improvement from Anthony Clement and I want to see either Wade Smith, Adrian Jones or Adrien Clarke step in for Pete Kendall (if released or traded) and give him a run for his money at the starting LG spot.

I want to read that Thomas Jones is tearing it up and that the line is opening up holes for him which will prove for good things in the regular season so that he can produce a 1,200+ yard season to help take the pressure off of Chad.

I want to read that somebody, anybody, I don't care who, is stepping up as a legit #3 wideout, whether it be Chris Baker, Justin McCareins, Chansi Stuckey, Brad Smith or Wallace Wright, anybody, so that there is pressure taken off of LC and Cotchery.

I want to read that the Jets have found a legit 34 OLB pass rush specialist to complement Bryan Thomas so he is not double teamed more often in '07. BT is not un-noticed anymore, so we need another threat on the outside, ala what San Diego has in Shaun Phillips to complement Shawn Merriman. Can it be Hobson? If not then who? Bowens? Wadsworth?

you do know that Baker is a TE 124-but yea I agree with you there-That's where I want to see the biggest surprise in the WR spot-someone to step up and shock us ala Saits' Colston---maybe Stuckey...HOPEFULLY Chansi

Yes I know Baker is a TE but he can still be a very valued #3 receiver, ala how Antonio Gates is the #1 receiver in San Diego with Vincent Jackson being a close 2nd, as an actual Wide Receiver.

As for Chansi, it's possible. I thought he would've definitely been a Day 1 draft choice and when we drafted him in Round 7 I thought it was one of the biggest steals of the draft. Heck, I didn't even think he was still on the board until it came across the screen that we had drafted him. He had some injury problems that slowed him last season but he's a very dangerous receiver, and despite what some say, he can be a game breaker.

I want to read that Leon Washington looks like Tiki Barber reincarnated, without the bitchy attitude and flaming homosexuality.

I want to read that Anthony Schlegal actually looks like he belongs in an NFL training camp.

I want to read that someone is stepping up to be the second/third corner.

I want to read that Kellen Clemens is the second coming of Christ.

he's another guy who is perfectly suited to what we do-short to intermediate passes who isn't afraid to go across the middle and catch the ball....so for me the 2 positions I'd like to be surprised at would be that DE/OLB hybrid (Coleman/Bowens/Wadsworth/Haynes) and WR-also where will Brad Smith fit in this season?

The hybrid is very important. We need another pass rusher alongside Thomas if we want to have an elite defense.

damn double T's I'm actually starting to think you really ARE a Jets fan...I wasn't sure there for a while

Which is what I just said.;-)

I mean, check out the best 34 defenses, they all have TWO very good OLB's, not just one.

San Diego: Merriman & Phillips

New England: Colvin & Thomas

Dallas: Ware & Ellis / Spencer

Miami: Taylor & Porter

Baltimore: Suggs & Johnson (should step in well for Thomas)

And then theres the teams with one who are still looking for their 2nd:

Cleveland: Wimbley & ???

JETS: Thomas & ???

San Francisco: Lawson & ??? Banta-Cain maybe?

Pittsburgh: Does Timmons replace Porter effectively?

Hopefully, Bowens or Wadsworth works out, because it can be argued that they haven't done ENOUGH to find that guy. This is one of the reasons I feel this team is still a year away from making a serious run (other than QB, which could hinder us for far longer than that).

If you look around the league at 3-4 hybrids, you see Merriman, Ware, Spencer, Whimbley, Lawson, Suggs, and Timmons, all of whom are recent first-round picks. I don't consider it Mangini's fault that we don't have a young beast coming off the edge, because Herm and Bradway left this team in utter shambles. You can't fix everything in two offseasons. It's also the reason I was pissed about the Thomas Jones trade and the two trade-ups. There are still a lot of things this team needs. It will take another offseason, and perhaps a slight change in philosophy (not going exclusively after crap free agents) to get them.

as to the draft-I just think they looked at a very weak draft class and weighed the options and figured they couldn't get a better option at RB and LBer and CB...look at how many guys we see drafted on the 1st day that never produce the way players like TJ have produced-trust the process and the FO-they've earned it ....so far

They have yet to earn to right to not be questioned. They had a great offseason in year one, but they still panicked and drafted Anthony Schlegal after they got cute with Gocong and traded down. They also shipped away a fourth rounder for Kevan Barlow. Not to mention giving $3 million a year to Kimo.

They aren't perfect, no one is. The difference between this season and last is when you have two 1st round picks, including a top five, and 10 overall picks (5 on the first day), you have a LOT more room for error than when you only have 4 picks (2 on the first day).

As for Thomas Jones, you don't pay for what players HAVE produced, you pay for what they WILL produce.

I want to read how the coaching staff is stunned by Miller's CB play, and how it could make dyson expendible (for picks) after the season.

Brandon Moore is becoming a vocal leader, and has really improved physcially over the winter.

Smith and Stuckley are having a very heated competition for the 3rd wide receiver spot, and J-Mac is traded for a 4th.

and what sports team on this planet could possibly know this? You go by recent past performance and what the guy looks like at the time and what he sounds like and how he's working out in the off season...

Thomas Jones is a 29-year old running back. You think he's got 1,350 more carries and 5,400 more yards left in him?

Ask the Cardinals if they still think it was a good investment to reward Edgerrin James for his Colts career.

Hell, the Jets JUST made this mistake a few years ago with Martin.

I'm not worried about 1,350 more carries but I DO think he has 1,350 total yards in him THIS year

I want to read that D'Brick, DRob, and Vilma gained 30 pounds, and that Mangini lost 30. I want to read that Coles and Cotchery did speed training all off season and now run 4.3 40's. I want to read that Kellen Clemens suddenly gets it and starts playing like Peyton Manning in the preseason games. And finally, I want to read that Tom Brady retired to take care of his children.
