Auburn University's Prechae Rodriguez will have a chance to play professional football.

Auburn, Ala.--Undrafted wide receiver Prechae Rodriguez will get a chance to play in the National Football League with the New York Jets as a free agent.

The 6-4, 208-pound Auburn senior from Tampa, Fla., caught 11 passes for 122 yards as a senior. In the opener vs. Kansas State he had a career-best game with six catches for 73 yards.

Rodriguez was a basketball player in high school before switching to football in college.

As a junior he made 14 catches for 168 yards with a touchdown vs. Alabama.

In his first season at Auburn, after transferring from Coffeyville, Kan., Community College, he caught 13 passes and 240 yards with one touchdown.

He had 39 catches for 553 yards as a freshman at Coffeyville.

Rodriguez, who has good speed and is an excellent leaper, has also been courted by Canadian Football League teams and is expected to have a chance to play north of the border if he doesn't make it with the Jets.

Nice! A latino! Don't know much about him, but if he can contribute I'm happy.

The DesMoines Register is reporting that the Jets have signed Bryan Mattison (6-3, 272 lbs), DE from Iowa where he was a three year starter. Mattison was a late round projection and his father is a coach who looks like works for the Ravens.

Mattison was a team captain … All-Big Ten Conference second-team … Academic All-Big Ten choice… played exclusive as a senior as a LDE and ranked second with four forced fumbles. He was in on 61 tackles (27 solos) and became the fourth Hawkeye to lead the team in sacks in back-to-back seasons, collecting nine for minus 54 yards, also had 11.5 stops for losses of 60 yards and three quarterback pressures.

Mattison played at the East West Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl. At the Senior Bowl he stood in for Kentwan Balmer and was blown off the ball at Defensive Tackle.http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/bryan-mattison?id=1732

124 why are you hating on Woodhead so much? The kids was a productive back in college (albeit in division 2) who cost us nothing cause we can cut him at any point so there is absolutley no risk. He had slightly better measurables than Ray Rice who is also tiny yet everyone here seems to sing his praises. There is absolutley no harm letting him come to training camp, if he looks like **** he is easily gone.

DANNY WOODHEAD!!!!!

I want this guy in the 6th or 7th round and we didn't get him. They did a job interview and he seemed like he was hungry and I'm not talking about food. Any chance he'll make the team ?

It's a long shot. He'd basically be the same player as Leon Washington. Well we already have Leon Washington. Best chance IMO is if Caulcrick nails down the job as short-yardage back then it could come down to him & Chatman. Given his history of being a lazy bum (albeit with talent), Chatman is no lock to make the final roster. He could contribute on kick/punt returns as well with his speed, something Chatman wouldn't be suited for. If we can't find any use for Chatman other than a 3rd string RB who otherwise sits on the sideline, it's not such great use of a roster spot. 3rd string RB has to contribute on special teams.

There's always a shot. But the odds are not good.

You never really know tho, If he busts his ass anything can really happen.

Draft Daddy has a nice organized page with all our UDFA signings along with grades for our draft picks:

N.Y. Jets

DRAFT PICKS WITH GRADES:

1.6 DE Vernon Gholston, Ohio State: Boom or bust pass rusher was the only logical choice. Grade: B+.

1.30 TE Dustin Keller, Purdue: The Jets lack tall red zone targets, Keller has soft hands. Grade: B.

4.113 CB Dwight Lowery, Akron: Not fast corner, but ballhawk with 9 Int's in 2006. Grade C+.

5.162 QB Erik Ainge, Tennessee: Nephew of NBA star Danny, not a great arm, a #3QB. Grade C.

6.171 WR Marcus Henry, Kansas: NYJ need size at wide receiver, Henry has a chance. Grade C-.

7.211 OT Nate Garner, Arkansas: Smart run blocker could provide depth. Grade C-.

Caulcrick and Woodhead have a shot at the practice squad. Nobody from this group should make the active roster.

You serious? Honestly, how good do you expect UDFA's to be??? They werent drafted for a reason, you know.

Anyway, I like this draft for the most part. Rounds 4-7 were pretty weak, but our first two pick can make up for the difference easily.

People dont realize quite how good Gholston is... He is going to stun a lot of fans this year, a lot of them...

Prediction: Caulcrick will make the active roster as the 5th RB (Stacy Tutt's roster spot). Mattison will make it as a reserve DE. Right now they have Kareem Brown, Mike Devito, and Thomas Johnson. Mattison has a great shot at making it.

I have decided to ignore the ignorant negativity that many Jets fans show. It's just always gonna be that way with some people. We know they had a good draft as far as doing what they could with what was available to them in each round. We won't really know for two or three years how good or bad it was in actuality. In the meantime, it looks like they did a pretty damn good job to me. In Gholston and Keller they got a dynamic playmaker on each side of the ball. Ainge at the end of the 5th was a great find. Marcus Henry is an interesting pick in the 6th who may turn into the big WR they have needed since Keyshawn left town. Then again Keller may be more of a WR than a TE and he certainly has size. Lowery is one I'm not sure about but he does have a nose for the ball and has the build that Mangini likes in CB's - the 5'11, 190-200 range. It's not like there were an overabundance of CB's available to them there. He actually may play FS anyway. I'm not sure about Garner but it doesn't hurt to bring in another OL to compete with their projects (Turner, Oldenburg, Daniels, Bender). Caulcrick was a nice pickup as an UDFA as was Mattison.

Even knowing nothing about them I can pretty much guarantee there will be UDFA making the active roster. Remeber, they just cut Tutt and Kowelewski who were on the active roster. They also lost Ryan. Poteat isn't signed and Erik Coleman is gone. These guys probably won't be playing any downs, but they aren't exactly competing with Rhodes and Keller for roster spots. More like Pociask, Devito and Drew Coleman. When you consider how many guys will probably go down with injuries during camp and preseason there should be at least a couple of UDFA making the regular roster. Especially if they can play ST.
