CrazyCarl40
Given the difference and age and contract, not to mention baserunning and defense the Sox made out alright with Bay. Losing Moss and Hansen is not really losing much. Hansen has done nothing but be inconsistent for the Sox and Moss did not have a job here. Gonna miss Manny, but not gonna miss the baggae that came with him.
Lil Bit Special
The Red Sox were raped in this deal. Manny for Bay would have been a fair deal since Manny has a better history of production. But to pay the rest of this year's salary, plus give up Moss and Hansen... Bay will be fine in Boston and they probably wont see that much of a difference between Manny and Bay. But the red sox got hosed. Theo really screwed the pooch on this one. And Manny is screwed too, those options are now gone... who is going to pay him 20 mil a season now? Stupid move on both their parts.
Sharrow
Full spin mode http://sonsofsamhorn.net/index.php?showtopic=34688&st=780 I see Blackout stole a post ("So we traded a Hall of Famer and two young, cost-controlled major leaguers for Jason Bay? Are we getting Damaso Marte as well?") from that thread on that site.

DaBrick Wall
This is a very happy day for Yankee fans, not only because the guy who has killed them the most is gone. The Sox got weaker on offense and didn't do anything with that bullpen, and the Rays didn't do anything. The Yankees got better.
haggis
Sawx fans need to be reminded they were happy to see another guy leave town How'd that one work out for ya Pretty good actually, we won a World Series without him. Look, at the end of the day the Sox HAD to move him. It would have been a 2 month circus with him staying around. You saw how ugly and embarrassing it was this past week, it would have continued and ripped that team apart. I like Manny, love the TWO rings he helped bring us, but his stay was over. Yeah the deal sucked, but moving him clearly seemed more important to the organization.

Stupid move on both their parts. Red Sox did not make out THAT badly. They get a player who they will control longer and they lose a cancer and distraction. They obviously will lose somthing in some ability, and moreso clutch aptitude, but hey, they got 2 WS out of the guy. Many other clubs are envious. Next chapter. Money? Yeah, paying 7 mill by the Red Sox is a real dent in their machine. Their organization seems to be fairly stocked throughout, so a couple of prospects who seem marginal may only be a drop in the bucket. Time will tell on that. All they could do is make the best out of a bad situation, and maybe they did that. Now, how does the team react?

And lost 2 prospects who have the ability to be good.. And 7 mil. Way to much to rid the clubhouse of a media created cancer. Manny wasnt a cancer when they did well. He was a cancer when the FO decided he was. It was a dumb move. Worst in Theo's career. And the team isnt better off today than it was wednesday. Luckily TB didnt make a move and the Yankees didnt make any major deal that upsets the balance of the division. People can spin it anyway they want. Truth is this was a stupid deal. The Red Sox are still doing well, but could be doing better if not for the lack of effort by Manny Ramirez. When the Sox got Ortiz back they were supposed to get significantly better. Manny begged to be put on the disable list with huge series coming up. I don't understand why it is a bad move. You get a younger player who will play everyday and not complain. He'll play better defense and run the bases better and his teammates will actually want to play with him. And as far as the prospects being good, Hansen has never shown anything other than being inconsistent and Moss had no job here for a corner OFer with average power, if that. Bad situations are usually created by both sides, and that would be true in this case as well. Manny did not want his contract to be renewed and was hell-bent on making sure that the marriage soured. The Red Sox played their part too. but, to insinuate that Manny is the innocent victim in all of this is naive.

He has totally misread his value and potential earnings the rest of his career. I have never approved of his actions. I never wanted him on the Mets even when he was free on waivers. But it just really smells that now Manny is too difficult to deal with. The FO f#cked this up. They screwed up his value and got hosed in the deal. Are they worse of a team? No, I like Bay. Better stats this year and locked up for another year. Are they better? No. But what they gave up to get rid of Manny... ridiculous. They could have kept him. He would have played his ass off the rest of the way, unless they fell out of contention. And then decline the option. But that would have upset the fans. They have a cheap young LF who can put up similar numbers to Manny while they save money to spend on relief pitching and maybe Sabathia. But this year they got worse, no doubt about it. They downgraded on offense and they didn't at all address their biggest area of need, which was the bullpen.

Agreed, and Bay will not be able to replicate what Manny meant in teh clutch, and I realize that is difficult to quantify, but it is true. Manny had charisma that could take pressure off the rest of a team and allow them to perform, as well he had a flair for the dramatic. Bay is none of those things. He says the pen can be handled internally, and I believe him. Hasn't led us too far astray as of yet. there are some guys that have struggled with consistency for sure, but hopefully these young guns figure it out sooner than later.
