THE ILK
ESPN has it that the Knicks and Nuggets make the deal, then the Nugs turn around and send Mozgov and Gallinari OR Chandler back to the Nets for two firsts. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nba/news/story?id=6144608 Denver's GM says he's not trading either of them. RutgersJetFan
Looks like people were spot on about Melo not bringing anything to the table defensively and Chauncey struggling with D'Antoni's system. What a game. That's the biggest win in ages.

What a game. That's the biggest win in ages. Bet he was really enjoying being widely considering a throw-in in the trade. These are gonna be the types of games we play until our offensive gets some semblance of cohesiveness. Went absolutely nuts when Chauncey hit that 3 pointer. RutgersJetFan
So, here's why you trade for Carmelo Anthony. see how Amare's able to split Lebron off defending him before the first pass? The reason that works is because it's not Danillo Gallinari or Wilson Chandler at the top there, because Lebron doesn't panic if that's the case and overplay his man. He can just rely on the fact that he's a billion times more of an athlete and take his time. Carmelo? Not so much. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_AKEQrBAJ4 What a player by the way. Throw away the Cleveland debacle, the dude's elbow was shot. The way he's able to create space for himself in heavy traffic without putting a body on anybody is pretty amazing to watch. He's the perfect complimentary frontcourt player offensively for a guy like Stat.

That was the only thing standing in the way of losing due to that retarded inbound to Walker. Melo, who's been owning everyone in the paint all day, Stat, and Chauncey who's on fire, and we're running screens for Bill Walker in the clutch? Really Mike? RutgersJetFan
Four guys all surrounding the key, Melo gets right to the hoop without so much as grazing one of them, and making Lebron look like a fool in the process. Yeah, gonna go ahead and say that Timofey Mozgov never did anything like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSCDrPPSdfY

BroadwayJoe12
What the hell was there to love about that stiff? I liked how at his size, 7'1 250+ lbs, he was able to run the floor and play in this type of system. He set pretty strong screens, could finish around the basket, was excellent at putting a body on someone when boxing out, had a good pure shooting stroke and free throw stroke for someone his size and in the few months he sat the bench, made tremendous strides on his rebounding and playing within himself. I'm not saying he was ever going to be an all-star, but he was the prototype of big body that D'An would look to use in his system and allowed STAT to play his more natural PF position. For someone giving you 30ish mins a game, you could have seen him developing into a 12 pt 10 rebound a game type of guy. Not all-star worthy, but a serviceable center on a playoff team. RutgersJetFan
D'Antoni is the most frustrating coach in the history of the world. The whole "shooters have to keep shooting" mentality is absurdly frustrating to watch half the time. There's never a deviation no matter what. You beat teams you have no business beating, you lose to teams you have no business losing to, and we're not going to be playing any of the latter in the playoffs. I'll take it. The whole "shooters have to keep shooting" mentality is absurdly frustrating to watch half the time. There's never a deviation no matter what. It's brutal, but it wasn't just the three ball we were missing, we were missing absolutely everything. Our bench was putrid, 11 pts to 44?? Even Melo and Amar'e were missing shots in the paint...Howard was omnipresent. That's the reason why we went on that little run in the second half, we played great defense when we weren't making shots. Our offense is going to stagnate like that every once in a while, as shooters do miss, but the only thing that will keep us in the game during those times is making stops. The talent is there to play defense, but you can see the rotations have been off during stretches and a lot of that can be due to them not knowing each other. I've been hearing a lot of people hate on the Jared Jeffries signing, but last night when Nelson went unconscious is the exact time you could use a JJ. BroadwayJoe12
Have to say, as funny as the Jeffries signing was, he actually was starting to come around playing under D'Antoni here defensively. He was a great role player on those early 2000 playoff Wizard teams and the only reason he caught all the sh*t here in NY was for the $30 million deal Zeke signed him too. Shocker. At his current low offer, he's the perfect type of player for us, as he can do all the little things without the ball...mainly, because when he has the ball, terrible things happen lol. But he can guard pretty much every position, takes charges well (which is sometimes the only way to defend someone like howard) and brings a lot of energy to get key stops. Should be interesting to see the type of minutes he gets tonight.

BroadwayJoe12
Nice win tonight. Chris Paul was invisible. He really seems so emotionally non-invested anymore. There's absolutely no way he stays in NOLA when he can opt out. I know he means a lot to that franchise, but theyd be smart to trade him to the highest bidder now, just like Utah did. Avoid the media-circus and get a kings-ransom for him, before he and or the FO alienate themselves from the fans.
SMC
I agree, Broadway, but you have to also factor in the recovery from knee surgery. It's been 13 months and he doesn't seem right. He's lost the burst and has to wear that knee brace. Being hurt & disinterested is a toxic combination. Good win last night. JJ got hated on because of the big midlevel contract. He's an excellent defensive role player. People were complaining about losing Brewer, but JJ can do everything Brewer does defensively and also guard the 4 & 5. He got 5 offensive boards last night in limited minutes. JJ is perfect for this team. He doesn't have Turiaf's limited offensive skills, but he's a smarter defender and better rebounder that Turiaf. The bench scoring only 11 points against the Magic was troubling, but that was an off night. They're still getting acclimated and have to get over the deference hurddle (D'A mentioned it, as did Billups, about guys not being aggressive because they're deferring to the Big Three too much). Williams and Walker can score and they've shown themselves to be solid defenders. Fields looked a little timid offensively, but played better last night. Carter can't shoot, but he can run the offense and is a good defender. The best bench guy is Douglas as we all know. Williams, Walker, Fields, Carter, and JJ are good complimentary players and fit the new-look team nicely.
JohnnyHector
I was finally at the point where I wouldn't have been fazed by Toney Douglas and his stupid facial hair getting flattened by a box truck on 7th Avenue and he goes out and plays lights out. It would be awesome if he could mix in a couple of half-way decent games between his great ones. The dude is maddening to watch.
RutgersJetFan
There's pimp, and then there's refusing to sit on the bench when you're out for a game because your suits haven't arrived yet. SMC
Good win. The Knicks can play defense, they just have to be consistent with it. They also need to have a clear plan how to defend the pick & roll (ironic since that's D'A's bread & butter). The Cavs & Magic killed the Knicks this past week on P&R. Since trade (7 games): 105.4 points for / 101.5 points against. #fb What I think is even more interesting is points forced and points against; during 5 games not against cleveland since the trade: 102.8 forced and 95.4 allowed. during 2 games against cleveland since the trade: 112.0 forced and 117.0 allowed. We went 4-1 against the Heat, Bucks, Hornets, Hawks and lost against the Magic and of course twice to the Cavs. This is clearly a case of us always playing down to our competition and getting up for the bigger games. We've done this all year, it's just magnified that much more when we lose to sh*tass bottom dwellers like cleveland. Great Win against the hawks, hopefully we can pull out a win tonight at the Jazz. We've got 14 games in about three weeks, should be interesting.
