The Niners dismantling the Packers yesterday shows teams without 'elite' QB's can win the Super Bowl

The point is that while a great QB can carry an entire crappy team to success, it takes an entire team to carry a crappy QB to success. Can the latter beat the former? Sure, but history tells us that, come playoff time, it's the former who seems to have a lot better odds. That's only compounded by the fact that even if they manage to pull it off in a playoff game, they'll probably have to do it all over again a week later. There's a reason why in the 49ers big wins against top QBs like the ones over GB yesterday or NO in the playoffs that, despite a fantastic outing from SF, they still needed to pull a close win out in the end. More often than not, those types of games are going to catch up with a team sooner or later. As Jets fans, you'd think we'd understand that as well as anyone. It's not that it can't possibly happen, but the odds are certainly not in your favor.

The excuses these elite QB teams receive when they lose are something else.

You cant fathom that SF might actually be a better 'team' than Green Bay? If the ref doesnt get involved on the PR that game isnt close.

You're probably right about that, but come playoff time, when a "better team" has to face a better QB in 3 or 4 consecutive games, much more often than not it's going to catch up with them and one of the better QBs eventually comes out on top.

could happen. but to say its impossible to win without an elite QB is false imo...it can be done without all of this total luck everyone seems to speak of.

The Niners werent lucky at all yesterday. They went into Lambeau and dominated,

This is the sh*t that is annoying. How about giving the Niners credit? The Packers are the sorriest bunch of we beat ourselves excuse makers in the business. Yesterdays game was a total ass kicking.

The 9ers get a ton of credit for beating Green Bay in week 1.

What does that have to do with the Super Bowl again?

The leap in logic here is astounding. May be a long-term trend(since 2000) does break. But it hasn't yet. Nobody wins a Super Bowl on opening day.

Since 1990, teams that have lost their season opener have gone on to the playoffs 24.6% of the time. In a vacuum, that may sound bleak. Or, depending on the team you root for, you might look at that and say you would take a 25% chance of the postseason right now, no questions asked.

then again....

how frequently winners make it? There are fewer playoff spots than non-playoff spots, so it isn’t uniform. As it turns out, the answer is about 54% of the time if you win the first game.

LOL. I love week 1.

Why couldn't you say that the Niners were the better team and leave that? What are you trying to justify?

No one said a team without an elite QB couldn't beat a team with one, or even that a non-elite QB couldn't win the Super Bowl. The argument is: 1) It hasn't happened in a decade, 2) Having an elite QB is more important than ever, and 3) For a team to win it without one, they need a set of circumstances to happen that a team with an elite QB doesn't tend to need.

Brady wasnt elite in 2001, neither was Ben his first time around. Both the Pats and Steelers defenses were the bigger reasons their teams won.

And that was all before illegal contact. Brady BECAME elite and Ben has been in the argument for being elite, so its not like they were trash QB's even at the time, either.

Last year, the team with the # 31 defense went 15-1, the team with the # 32 defense reached the Super Bowl, the team with the # 32 running game won it. This is the type of league we're dealing with now.

Crap you guys get out of whack over nothing.

I never said it proved anything. But a complete football team like SF is more than capable of winning it all. They are a better team than the Packers who have the better QB.

You said shows, so if they did not dismantle just beat, then would it mean proves?

of course they arent trash but they werent the biggest reasons why their teams were in the SB. Rodgers is basically the entire Packers team.

Yesterday was an ass kicking. It's just nice to see a complete team like the Niners can be a better football team than a team with an all world QB. Especially with all the rule changes.

Yet the Packers still made that a contest. If the Niners were vastly superior like you say then it shouldn't have been a 30-22 final.

The Niners need all 52 guys surrounding Smith to be on point to win a game like that. The Packers just need Rodgers to play a little better than he did (which was quite well by the end).

it wasnt a contest yesterday...gift punt return on a block in the back made it an apparent contest

Game wasnt even close. San Fran is better team with an inferior QB.

I really hope a non 'elite' Qb wins this year to shut some people up

please stop with this bullsh*t. Alex Smith is far from an inferior QB. And with the added talent and finally some stability in his career he will show you this year. Maybe if Rodgers had some running talent or if the team even bothered to try and establish the run it would make him that much better of a QB rather than throwing the football 900 times a freakin game. But I guess that would mean Less TD's so in the eyes of the QB gurus it would be a step back.

San Francisco is by far the best team in the NFL in every phase including the kicking game and ST.

I meant inferior to Rodgers

yeah Rodgers is the best QB in the NFL but if his defense cant stop anyone and the team cant establish a running game a lot of 12 winn seasons and no SB's from here on out wont be so hot for Rodgers other than his incredible stats. Personally I think Rodgers is good enough to win 3-5 SB's but he cant do it alone especially in the playoffs when you have to go up against the 2 or 3 of the best teams in your conference just to make it to the big game and trust me one of those teams will have a big time defense capable of shuting down an elite QB . When that time comes if you have nothing else you usually lose.
