According to Newsday, the New York Jets have signed WR Thomas Mayo who was with the Raiders in 2012 until he was cut during the preseason. Mayo was an undrafted free agent who was signed by the Raiders after the draft after coming out of the California University of Pennsylvania. He is listed as being 6′-2″ and weighing 205 pounds.

ya good point, but sadly it appears WR coach Sanjay Lal (who brought in Schillens) spoke up for this asshat also.

 I wondered about that.  How?  Lal signed on with the Jets by January.  Long before the combine and long before the UDFA signing period and before the kid even played in the E-W Shrine game. Also, why would it be sadly?

ya, my assumption was since kid was signed by Raiders as FA i n2012, that he was on Raiders coaches/scouts Radar in 2011. Assumed Lal might have had some knowledge that way.

Pretty big assumption.  The kid was probably scouted, but he was on the Jets radar too.  The Jets and Raiders were both at his pro day (regional scouting combine, LOL). Kid is a no joke legitimate long shot prospect.

Today’s announcement by the Jets has confirmed the earlier report that the Jets have indeed signed WR Thomas Mayo.  They have also announced the signings of DT Junior Aumavae and DB Eric Crocker.  Here’s the press release information on all 3 players:

Aumavae

(6’2″, 310/Minnesota State/Palmer, AK) entered the NFL as a free agent with Dallas on April 20 last year and was waived prior to the Cowboys’ training camp. He spent time with the Tampa Bay Storm of the AFL as well as the Green Bay Blizzard and the Fairbank Grizzlies of the Indoor Football League.

Crocker (6’2″, 195/Arkansas-Monticello/Stockton, CA) enters the NFL as a free agent after spending the 2012 season with the San Antonio Talons of the AFL, for whom he registered 70.5 tackles, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 13 passes defensed and three interceptions.

Mayo (6’2″, 205/California (PA
)
/Reston, VA) entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Oakland last May 4 and participated in the Raiders’ training camp before being waived Aug. 27. He spent time with the Chicago Rush of the AFL during the 2012 season.

Just as a bonus I found their AFL & IFL stats (via ArenaFan.com  & goifl.com):

Junior Aumavae – AFL – 0 games, 0 tackles, 0 sacks, IFL – 38 tackles(29 solo, 9 assisted), 2.5 sacks and 2 passes defended in 14 games for the Blizzard

Eric Crocker – 60 tackles, 21 assists, 13 passes blocked, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, three interceptions for 35 yards in 17 games  in 2012

Thomas Mayo – 0 games 0 catches 0 yards
