NY Jets Rumors: Mike Glennon Trade Option

It's not a fair comparison.  Geno played in a spread offense  which prepared him for high school football. Glennon played in a pro set offense at NC State   . Guess which one started his 1st year as a pro ?

Geno Smith should sue Rex Ryan and Morningwig  for mal practice .

Wouldn't this mean Geno Smith should sue Dana Holgerson and Shannon Dawson for malpractice?

funny thing is on the bucs message board (pewter report) they would be shocked if they get a 5th for him.  interesting you think he is worth a 3rd rd pick at this point..

Well, I am saying you have to out bid the browns. And Jason Licht will keep him for the year rather than get a 5th. He can still get a 5th for him next off season. They guy is making 650,000, if they dump him a backup to replace him will probably cost 2-3mil and the BU won't have any experience in the system to help bring along Winston. To lose that much value as a BU for a 5th rd pick is ludicrous. And since when are fans of a team one to place a value on a player. Here is a discussion on his value from a forum that has good discussions.

your completely Sold on a guy who the worst team in football doesn't think  is good enough to be in the teams future or present plans?

i guess since the trash isn't on the jets already it makes him better trash than what we already have.

When has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ever been the "standard" of talent evaluation? This is the same organization that drafted 3 QB's (Doug Williams, Steve Young & Trent Dilfer) that was given to other teams and ultimately won a Super Bowl. And they also drafted Testeverde that went to an AFCCG.

You're kidding me right now.

Well damn if that's the case I'm sold then . Trade a 3rd for him right away. Cause everyone knows them drafting Doug Williams in the 70's means something today .

I was talking about the rumors of JETS trading up to get Mariota.

I would not give up a mid round pick for Glennon though. We do not have the 5th or 6th round picks. So best we can do is 7th round pick. There is no way Glennon is worth a 3rd or 4th rounder.

there is always a 2016 pick

Glennon gets no love around here, but he's been better than Geno Smith over the last two years.  I know as Jets fans we've set the bar so low for our QB's over the last 6 years that a player who is marginally better than our current QB excites some of us.  Oh, to be a Jets fan...

Here's Geno Smith lousy numbers;

Year Team ................G  Att Comp Pct   Att/G Yds    Avg Yds/G TD TD% Int Int% Lng 20+ 40+ Sck SckY Rate

No there job is not to develop nfl qbs but to win college games.

The job of pro coaches is not to win NFL games?

I gave up on any hopes of getting Glennon once he became the only backup on their roster.  If he's available, the Jets are insane for not going out to get him.

At what price?  Insane not to kick the tires, but they were supposedly holding out for a 2nd last year - no thanks.

I'd do a second rounder.  Some may say that's too much, but also seeing talk about the Jets taking one of the second-tier QB's in rd 2 this year and I think Glennon is better than any of them.  Keeping the second rounder to draft an inferior player at the same position would be crazy to me.

He can be had for a 3rd. Winston is starting week 1 and they can sign some JAG to be the backup.

Absolutely nothing, but my original question, which covers the overall history of the organization was "When have the Bucs ever become the standard of talent evaluation"?

And its not like its the "Super Bowl Bucs" thats saying that Mike Glennon isn't worth it, this is the organization that thought it was a good idea to name Josh McCown the starter.

Yes...for two reasons IMO.

1) IF...and that's an unkown at this point but IF they plan on using 37 on one of the second-tier guys then just use the pick to get a guy who has played well on a horrific team.

2) Who else are they gonna' go with at QB? The Jets have spent what, $60 million(ish) in free agency?  They are building a "win now" team whether people feel like they can win or not.  The last, and most important hole on the roster is at QB.  Winston won't be there, Mariota may not be there, Rivers isn't available, Brees isn't available....good young QB's don't hit the market that often and we've gone 50 years w/o a QB.  I just want this team to get a QB already.

IMO his value is nowhere near a 2nd.

1. If you are saying you like better than Hundley/Petty, I can understand that, but don't necessarily agree.  Those guys are not very high on my list either.

2. Mike Glennon as a win now guy?  Villain notwithstanding, the guy has never won.  He's won 5 game in two years and the 2013 Lions are the only team that he beat that Geno Smith did not beat in the same season.  I think there is a difference between putting up numbers when your team is getting smacked around and actually playing well.  This smells of falling in love with a QB or the hurry up because it moved the ball against a prevent.  If Glennon were a "good young QB" somebody would have pulled the trigger on him last year.  He got sacked a ton in college and I bet some of these personnel guys blame Glennon for some of the Bucs offensive line problems.

Interesting guy.  I'd kick the tires and not be so against it, but I have not seen anything that made me want to bet my franchise on him and giving up #37 overall is pretty close to that dice roll.

I might watch some more film on him but when I checked out his performance against the Seahawks in Seattle during his rookie year he looked great.  Granted, he did get shut down in the 2nd half when Seattle adjusted, but to watch a rookie go 11-12 with 3 TD's against that defense is an accomplishment in itself.

We do see it from time to time...a talented young QB who doesn't win because the team around him simply isn't very good.  With the defense the Jets have built and the players they have on offense, any above average QB could be seen as "win now" IMO.  Gailey has done much better with far less talented QB's...having him work with Glennon would be ideal.

Use pick no. 6 on pass rushing OLB, trade 2nd for Glennon....and there are no longer any pressing needs on the roster.

I'm not saying they should call the Bucs today and offer a second...I think they should try to get him for a 3rd or less...but if it becomes clear on or around draft day that only a 2nd will get it done...then I'd do it.

a 3rd for a QB that most likely make little or no impact?

Why would I suggest giving up anything for any player who would have little or no impact?  That  may be your opinion, but it's not mine.

Going from a QB with 25 TD 34 INT to a QB with 29 TD 15 INT would have a pretty profound impact.

Just think about that for a second...the New York Jets playing football games with a quarterback who produces significantly more touchdowns than interceptions.  How would that NOT be a huge impact over what we've had for much of the past decade?

So playing with Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans, Mike Williams (Year before) is a bad situation ?

Tampa bay had the 25th rk passing offense in the league last year with 2 monsters on the outside as Recievers.

I noticed on your profile that your 52.... same as me.

Teams have to play defense too.  When an NFL team has a rookie QB who is completing a shade under 60% of their passes with a 2/1 TD/INT ratio, it's not the QB's fault that the team is losing.

Then why is Tampa drafting a QB #1 and not a Defensive guy or skill player or something ?

Stop with the box score scouting for minute look at the big picture and clearly something is wrong here. those #s aren't translating to wins . Just like when Sanchez 3rd year #s didn't .

That would be a better question for Tampa.  There have been examples throughout the history of the league of teams trading players who end up playing well elsewhere.  I have no idea what Lovie Smith's deal is with Glennon, but he clearly does not like the kid.  After putting up excellent numbers as a rookie, he signed a 57 year old veteran and named him the starter ten seconds later...not even a Jet-like fake TC competition.  He didn't even think enough of Glennon to tell him about it, so Glennon found out from a friend who heard it on the radio.

Then you do not have the ability to be happy. WTF is your problem with Big Mac? I think he has done a tremendous job so far and judging by the threads and posts on this site, MOST Jets fans agree.

im with you,he made this D one of the best in the nfl now we got the CBs to match our front 7 and he brings Marshall for a 5th!! please the guy is doing a great job in just a few months in and our new HC is a guy a lot of people are saying great things about and I mean other HCs that have been around for a while

THIS.  Plus, and I am repeating myself, Glennon wasn't force feed into starting like Geno was before he was ready.  In fact, he was more NFL ready then Geno from the get go.   That is why I am not swayed by simply looking at his numbers vs. Geno.   I freely admit that Smith has been very inconsistent and struggled mightily; he also has shown some flashes of ability to be a good quarterback.   Will he put it all together in his 3rd year?  I have no idea and I realize most doubt and I understand how they feel.  I think he demonstrate that he has grown and gotten better as qb.

I would have no problem bringing Glennon for no more than a 4th because there is no guarantee in my mind that his going to beat out Geno Smith.   Every coach wants to win and the dude couldn't start for the Bucs of all teams; I don't know why we keep dismissing that.

Which is why I feel so strongly about him. Tampa is a bad team, seriously. He had no linemen to protect him, no running game and even his new offensive coordinator went down with an illness at the beginning of the year and didnt fully install his offense.

Glennon can play under center, shotgun, he's played in a pro style, he's played in a spread. The guy is a solid QB. I think he'd be the best QB we've had since Chad Pennington, and when its said and done he'd be the best QB we had for this franchise.

You're preachin' to the choir man....I've liked Glennon since I saw him play a couple games in college and wanted to Jets to draft him.  I don't understand how anyone can look at his production and feel he won't be a HUGE upgrade over what the Jets have right now.

Holding out hope that this deal happens if TB is willing to part with him.
