New York Jets

– Ryan Fitzpatrick (+1.4) had a second positive game in a row after a low run previously. This week versus the Giants, Fitzpatrick dropped back 58 times and attempted 50 passes; he was under pressure on 45 percent of those dropbacks, but managed to preform well under pressure, completing 62 percent of his passes for a QB rating over 100. On passes between 10-19 yards, Fitzpatrick was at his best, completing 10-of-13 for 165 and a TD.

– The duo of Leonard Williams (+4.1) and nose tackle Damon Harrison (+3.0) where able to control the Giants’ offensive line in the run game. Combined, they recorded five run stops on 37 run snaps, and consistently beat the blockers to force the running back to make cuts he did not wish to. After a slow middle of the season, it looks like the sixth overall pick, Leonard Williams, is back to his early season form.

– In the third round of the 2015 draft, the Jets selected Lorenzo Mauldin (+2.5), who against the Giants, had his best game for his young career. While Mauldin didn’t record any sacks this week versus the Giants, he was able to cause the Giants’ offensive line issues in the limited snaps he played. If Mauldin can continue to use his speed to cause problems for offenses, then the Jets might have finally figured out their long-term answer for an edge pass rusher.

Top performers:

DL Leonard Williams (+4.1)

WR Brandon Marshall (+3.5)

DL Damon Harrison (+3.0)

CB Antonio Cromartie (+2.7)

DL Muhammad Wilkerson (+2.7)

how many points did the one he was totally roasted on but Pryor ran over and saved his ass count as?  Or the holding penalty at a crucial point?

I'm not sure it goes that far in depth...just gives a cumulative score of every play.  They don't isolate the bad plays and grade those.

How did future all pro and possibly hall of famer Darrin Walls do?

Gave up one or two catches, less than 30 yards total. No touchdowns. Majority of the damage was done on Buster Skrine again.

And on no plays was he ever roasted. He had solid coverage all day. He would have had an interception but Miles jumped in front of him. You might know any of this if you watched the game.

Mauldin didn't generate any sacks, but didn't he force a penalty? (actually should have been more penalties).

Yes.

Mauldin was disruptive to the pocket every single time he rushed the passer. The Giants legit could have been called for holding a half a dozen times on him. Unfortunately, they only called it once, but I do want to say it negated a 1st down.

yep Mauldin drew a key holding penality on a play where he had terrific hand placement and made a nice outside move to made the tackle look silly.  It was the same good hand placement we saw on his college film and hopefully he gets better at it.

Goddammit, Miles! Stealing all of Walls' thunder!

Seriously how do you miss a tackle on the edge?

Even if he was allowed to tackle those would have been illegal horse collars.

he was toasted on a would be TD if Pryor didn't come save his ass.  He also had a holding penalty where he was basically hugging the receiver.

Skrine was worse no doubt.  Not saying that but Walls wasn't great.  Better than last game, but still 4-5 CB caliber.  Unfortunately it's all we have.

Revis would have been burned on several plays if it wasn't for bad throws or drops. They happen. Walls made a play on the ball and missed, but knew Pryor was going to be there against one of the best receivers in the game. He had a solid game, no one said great.

The holding penalty was a bad play by him. It was on a screen, and receivers typically initiate that stuff. Skrine's penalty two plays later was even worse. No excuse, but I doubt there are many games in today's NFL where those penalties aren't called.

That said, if Revis and Williams had to miss another week the Jets would be fine and have confidence going to into next week.

I think Revis has been playing with a leg injury.

Revis does miss plays too.  We're all human.  Revis also has a huge database full of awesome plays so the ratio of awesome to bad is heavily weighted toward awesome.  Walls doesn't have such ratio.

Leonard Williams play and Will missing a meeting could be portents of a parting if the ways. I don't think MO ud a Jet next year.

Mo isn't going anywhere unless another team is willing to offer something quite nice for him in return.  Even if they don't sort out a new deal before FA, Mo is an obvious candidate for the franchise tag.  No way they let him walk for nothing.  While the tag wouldn't come cheap, currently looking to be over $15M for DEs, a new contract for Mo could easily cost them just as much as that, if not more, and the Jets can make the room by the big savings that could be had with certain players, the most obvious being Cromartie.

Besides, Mo has easily been the best of the bunch this year amongst the DL, so I can't imagine they'll be in a big rush to let him go.  Williams stepping up his play could just as easily make Sheldon expendable, who has already had multiple problems, and more on the horizon.

There is no way in hell I would pay Mo anything remotely close to $15 million a year. I would only franchise him if I knew we had a trade in the works. He is a very very good player, but the difference between him and a rotational player combined with Williams is not worth $10 million. No way.
