Geno Smith highlights

It is okay JoeW. I get your point.  The guy really shouldn't have been starting his first two years, (just like Petty who everyone loves) he played on some pretty poor offensive teams, two different OCs and yet still showed flashes that he could be a solid starting quarterback.  Sure he had his struggles, but now he has had an entire season to watch and observe from the sidelines, to pick the brain of a veteran quarterback and also realize that he needs to improve all aspects of his game if he wants to stay in this league.   I think he will be highly motivated and whether he stays on the Jets or not, I think in the end he will have the last laugh on all these idiots who are constantly mocking him.

Skill is one thing, it seemed like the guy had a good arm and was obviously an athlete but it just always seemed like the game was moving too fast for the guy.

Blame that on the OC Chan Gailey will make the adjustments needed.

The most interesting thing I take from that, why didn't we use Kerley more last year?

Really? I what I kept saying is wow I wonder how he would have done with BOTH Marshall and Decker to throw to all year...

Anyone care to share Fitzpatrick 3 INTS in a row vs the Bills in a game we needed to make the playoffs.

"The embattled quarterback threw three picks on the Jets' first four drives in the 43-23 loss to the Bills on Sunday, the last of which brought the Bills all the way to New York's 1-yard line, leading to a Kyle Orton touchdown pass.

"Smith, who came into the game with seven interceptions, lost his spot after forcing a horrendous deep ball to Percy Harvin on the second series. The following drive, he threw an almost identical route to tight end Jeff Cumberland, which was also picked.

"The third interception, which continued a barrage of boos from the fans at MetLife Stadium, almost immediately prompted Michael Vick to place his helmet on and start throwing to Eric Decker. This is the second time this season Smith has been benched.

Geno does have the arm and is athletic the question is after 3 years will the brain catch up?? It's happened before to others..

Remember Savage, he should never have been starting. He was not ready; now he was forced to sit, watch and hopefully learn last year.   It had to be incredibly embarrassing for him and if nothing else, we will get to see what he is made of.

2nd year raw player versus 10 year vet. Playoffs on the line....  yeah they are exactly the same.

There were a lot of throws he made that Fitz wishes he could make. It's all about playing smart.

The hope is he learned that from a year of watching from the sidelines and studying game film...

Geno has a far better arm than Fitz.

Geno looks good in sections of most games he plays.

Geno looks bad at times in many games that he plays.

Geno makes really bad decisions at the worst possible times.

Geno, like his predecessor Mark has terrible pocket presence.

Geno does not show many good leadership qualities.

My view of Geno would be different going into this year if he did not look EXACTLY like the old geno in the Oakland game.  Looks pretty good, falls apart and makes mind numbingly bad choices at important times.  I have zero confidence that he will ever change.

Can someone share the highlight of Geno's big chance in Oakland where he got smacked hard out of bounds so Fitz had to come back in for a play, when he could have just as easily stepped out of bounds?

Or how about the one where he took a sack in bounds instead of throwing it away? Choose that highlight from any game he's been in, thanks.

No amount of time on a bench is going to make him less skittish in the pocket, raise his football IQ, change his decision making process, or make him a more accurate thrower. Just isn't going to happen here or anywhere else.

So your judging his progression by the Oakland game where he came off the bench cold and didnt work with the first team offense thats ok in a sense he threw 2 TD passes that game.

So what will be the talking points in 2017 if Geno starts and fails again?

He didn't REALLY get a fair chance, look at his TE?  He needed a good TE and he never got one.

The talent around him was poor, that O-line, too old, they're all bums.  Can't expect a third year QB to play well with that O-line.

Marshall and Decker are old and done, how can we judge a young QB when his over the hill WR's can't catch and drop every 4th ball?

Geno needed a good running game and we just didn't have one.  Can't blame him for that, can we?

Chan Gaily is a horrible O-Co man, really, and he's Geno's THIRD O-Co, how can we expect a young QB to thrive under those circumstances?

The D really let Geno down, if they had only held after a few of those INT's, Geno would have won alot more games.

Those INT's weren't really on Geno, they were schemed by Gaily, and the WR's didn't fight hard enough for the ball.  Seriously, when will we get Geno some talent that will help him?

He only needs a fair chance, he should definitely start in 2017.  It's only fair.

Or maybe so glad we improved the RB and TE position Decker and Marshall repeat career years Geno looks like a different QB under Gailey and we made the playoffs something we failed to do with Fitzpatrick.

if petty improved, i'm not sure geno beats him out, at least not by a lot.  geno didn't beat out sanchez when sanchez got hurt that time.  geno didn't beat out fitz last year.  if the jets let fitz walk, draft prescott and let the 3 of them fight it out in tc, it's far from a lock that geno wins it going away.

Always possible.

Same way it's possible Amy Adams, Rachel McAdams, Elizabeth Banks and Kate Mara will come over tomorrow night and let me do anything I want, anything at all.

Yes, you know the game where he finally had weapons to play against a non winning team?

Yes, but didnt practice with the starters all week that game.

you don't need to practice to know to throw the ball away instead of running out of bounds and taking a sack.  with geno there is always an excuse, always a mitigating circumstance.  sanchez is who he is, geno is who he is.  we will soon see who petty is.  and we will see who the new draftee is.

So as long as Geno is:

Anointed starter and gets all camp and all #1 practice time.

Gets to play with a stacked team on offense.

Gets to play vs teams with non winning records.

He will be okay?  Excellent!
