the consensus seems to be some combination of bosa/allen/q. williams are the top 3 prospects at least for right now

So then draft one of them.  Our defense cannot sniff the qb yet somehow most jets fans think adding the first real pass rusher since John Abraham is a bad thing

I don’t understand everyone’s fascination this year with trading down. Everyone is acting as if Mac has been a genius at drafting quality players. Please someone tell me besides his first rounders who on this team puts fear in an OCs Or DCs dreams at night? And if your being honest of his first rounders there is really only two. Again which one of his second rounders are still on the team or has managed to stay healthy? Having more picks doesn’t guarantee that your gonna pick the right guys or players that can even stay in the league. A few years back Idzik and company had 11 picks, only Quincy Enunwa is still on the team. A totally wasted draft, It set us back 5 years. The NO Saints and Chargers have rebuilt their entire team in the last 4  drafts since 2015, and neither team traded back to accomplish that. Matter of fact the Saints have mostly traded up to select the player the desired most. If the NYv Jets had done that 2016 they could have had Jaylon Smith or Myles Jack in 2017 a draft rich in Offensive line talent Maccagnan traded back passing on  o lineman that would have set the Jets up spectacularly for Sam Darnold. Whom we would not have gotten without “trading up”.  We traded back more than five times that day with all those trades who still remains on this team from all the trading back? More importantly, who was taken or could have been taken? How about WR Cooper Kupp,  C Pat Elflien,G Dan Feeney, RB Donta  Foreman, G Dorian Johnsohn, we could have rebuilt the O line or D line instead of WRs Ardarius Stewart, Dylan Donahue, Jeremy Clark, Chad Hansen, players not even on the team anymore.  My point is SIMPLE, I DONT TRUST MACAGNAN to draft significant, essential, dominant consequential players. So trading down won’t help this team as long as the inept GM and talent evaluators have no real plan for success for this team..

In Dane Brugler's most recent mock he has the Jets trading down with the Broncos:

10. New York Jets – Jawaan Taylor, OT, Florida
The Jets’ most valuable asset is Sam Darnold and general manager Mike Maccagnan is going to address the offensive line this offseason to better protect him. Taylor needs to improve his play strength, but he is a human shield with outstanding contact balance on the edges.

41. New York Jets (from Denver) – N’Keal Harry, WR, Arizona State
By getting back into the second round, the Jets can land a physical pass catcher like Harry, giving Darnold a young, trustworthy target.

It’s because they all want Jonah and he’s rated as a mid first round pick and he needed chip blockers to block Ferrell in the bowl game

I’d rather go WR-OT in that scenario.   Maybe a Metcalf-Cajuste combo

Drew Lock - QB -  Player

According to the Denver Post's Mark Kiszla, the "worst kept secret at the Senior Bowl" was that Broncos GM John Elway is "smitten" with Missouri QB Drew Lock.

The Broncos pick at No. 10 overall, behind the also-quarterback-needy Giants (No. 6) and Jaguars (No. 7). Per the Denver Post's Ryan O'Halloran, Elway "barely left the quarterback group" during his three-day stay in Mobile. Lock is highly thought of from an upside standpoint, but he completed under 57 percent of his college throws and struggled against top competition. Incumbent Broncos starter Case Keenum lost a supporter when the team let Gary Kubiak out the door.

Elway sure knows how to pick 'em. lol.

But yeah, give me the #10 overall pick and Von Miller with his 25mil salary (which I, as the Jets GM am very much happy top pay) and you can have the #3 overall pick and take whoever the F you want.

Yeah, but teams DO. Teams trade very often but during the draft and before. The Jets are a prime example last year, moving up to #3.

Fair enough. But what if the Jets trade down and get a player out of the deal? Von Miller, Antonio Brown, P.Peterson, Alshon Jeffery, AJ Green, R.Quinn, etc.

After looking at Jeremiahs top 50 players, this year there is a fair number of OT's in there and a decent number of WR's.  Don't get finicky if a team does not give you the uber premium offer, have things ready to go to trade out unless perhaps if bosa falls to 3.

We need picks in the sweet zone.  mid 1st and a 2nd and other picks later down are going to be far better than who is there for us at #3

I know, i know, Mac can't pick 2nd rounders at all and he also cannot close the deal on short notice.  (His big trade up last year was well ahead of time.)

Couldn't agree more. We can get someone like Jonah Williams at say #7 and pick up some extra draft ammo in the bargain.

Acquiring more picks when your GM sucks at drafting is exactly what you want to do. The draft is inherently a crap shoot. If you aren't confident your guy is going to ace a small number of picks you want as many lottery tickets as possible.

This would probably need to happen before the draft.  The hard thing with trading players on draft day with such high profile impact players is the unknown of how they fit into the locker room.  With the draft they spend months going through player profiles, interviewing the player, interviewing teammates, teachers, coaches, ex-teammates, etc to get a feel for the player.  With some trades, there is enough time to get this information from the staff and sometimes even players.  So unless this deal is set up before a team is on the clock, I am not sure a lot of teams would be willing to accept trades that involve players they don't really know.  Players are really different between their public image and who they are in the locker room.

I understand everyone’s desire to protect Darnold but if that means taking a decent tackle prospect that will be playing right tackle at the next level (J. Williams), Instead of taking a sure fire dominant pass rusher or possible next Aaron Donald, I’ll take pass rushers/Donald. First of all  we have a good RT in Shell and second, Your still asking me to trust the capability of Maccagnan to draft essential players with the additional picks we acquire.  We should have taken our Centers and guard 2 drafts ago but Mac didn’t and he’s still here. Chris Johnson is taking a huge gamble that this clown can get this right. If Mac is smart they take BPA at #3 hopefully QW, NB, or JA and use the two third rounders to trade up for a Center or G none of these  offensive tackles are worth taking first round  after Gregg Little and Jonah Williams. I’d rather take Little because he will be a LT at the next level. After Dalton Risner, I’m not sure there is another tackle that won’t need significant coaching up before they are ready to contribute to the team.

Has anyone seen this kids tape? I’m not impressed I see a potential OG but he’s no LT prospect. At best he might be a decent RT after a few years of development, at worst he will be a bust like Erik Flowers. I see more Flower traits than anything else. I’d rather take Dalton Risner or the Center from Mississippi state Elgton Jenkins. That C is a stud!

Wow, honestly that would get me listening as a GM, but it would have to be  Von Miller, Jeffrey or Green. AB is a locker room cancer, Peterson and Quinn are  too old, and that would still have to entail this years rounds 1 and 2 and next years round 2 and 3 and a third rounder in 2021. I’m gonna break the bank if you want this years #3 and your moving up from 10!  If I were GM, I’m gonna talk Johnsohn into taking a chance on Kareem Hunt. We need weapons on offense and everyone makes mistakes, then  With pick 10 I’m taking Gregg Little if he’s available, I’m sure J. Williams will be gone by then but I like Little better. Juwaan Taylor has bust written all over him. I’m sure he will move and test better than Taylor at the combine. If he isn’t available, I’m taking Elgton Jenkins Center from Mississippi state. With my second pick I’m still going O line with another interior lineman or Dalton Risner if he’s available. My philosophy is simple spend high draft capital either fixing the O line or the D line not both.  Spend round 4 -7 on depth and developmental players on the other side of the ball unless of course you have a player really high on your board no one has grabbed.

Hmm, well I’m going to have to agree to disagree with you on this one. Having more picks and a GM that can’t find his a$$hole with a a depends pamper and a flashlight is a recipe for the mediocrity we find our team in now. You must have forgotten a guy named Idzik and his 11 picks. Enunwa is the only one out of those still left. Having a competent and capable  staff that pay attention to the smallest details when evaluating a player can really help.  Why is it that some teams always seem to find gems in later rounds and others like Detroit, Jets, Miami, Buffalo never get it right? I’d rather move up and grab a player I really want then trade back hoping beyond hope that you get “ lucky” and come across a player. If your gonna play the New England Patriots game, you better have a super talented coaching staff that is more than capable of developing the players into pros that work well in your system. We don’t keep coaches long enough to build a true “NY JETS” culture or have a system. Why do the Steelers always find LBers and WRs that are superstars even tho no one had ever suspected they were superstars in the making? One word guess, COACHING!  Adam Gase and Gregg Williams need a large say in personnel decisions in order for that to happen and if stories are to be believed he never really worked with Bowles to bring in or draft players Bowles wanted. To be winners at what you want, the Jets May have to change ownership.

I haven't watched any of his tape but I've read he projects as a RT as well.

I mean citing Izdik and saying "we have no hope of drafting players" is kind of defeatist, right? We all wanted Big Mac gone but he's here and I think we have enough holes that in a deep first 50 picks in want a 2nd rounder.

He’s going to need a lot of work. We already have She’ll who played well before his injury last year. Unless he isn’t healing and rehabbing well I’m not drafting a RT prospect that can’t play multiple positions

Well I respect how you feel and I’d love a 2 Nd rounder also but I don’t want mediocre players, we don’t have any Studs on this team that any team fears. Who on offense or defense do you have to game plan for? I’d rather take a stud at three, trade both third round picks and move back into 2nd round for a OT Gregg Little or C Elgton Jenkins, or WR Debo Samuels. or CB from Penn State. We can’t be afraid to move up, like we said growing up “scared money don’t make money”. That’s how Mac has been drafting players.

Fair enough. But what if the Jets trade down and get a player out of the deal? Von Miller, Antonio Brown, P.Peterson, Alshon Jeffery, AJ Green, R.Quinn, etc.

If the Steelers want to give us their first plus Brown absolutely go for it

Jonah has excellent hands reset technique. Footwork is fine he’s not Flowers but he’s not Brick either.  He’s going to be a left tackle just not elite

Saw some people say he could be pro bowler at guard....anyone think we should, hopefully trade back and take him as a guard. Could have  the q Nelson effect. I also think jets should look at interior as priority rather than lt. Lt is a need but not immediate like lg and c.

I think Jonah will be a good to very good LT

I think we'll have a clearer picture of what potential moves we will be able to make after the combine is over, and after the pro days are over. For some reason, teams have changed their priorities after attending the combine and pro days. Then, we can see if there are any teams that are willing to make a deal with us for our #3 that makes sense.
