AFJF
Saw McKinley send out some strange tweet the other day about how the Falcons were turning down offers to trade him but he wanted to leave. Well, today they released him. He's a 25 y/o former first rounder with 17 sacks in 3+ seasons. Unless there's some behind the scenes insanity we're unaware of, the Jets don't have enough talent to NOT put in a claim.
Bungaman
Well, there must be SOMETHING behind the scenes that prompted his release. I'd be very cautious: it's not like the Falcons are brimming with talent and would do this lightly, or that no one traded even a low pick for the guy when he was made available before the deadline. Scott Dierking
One thing that has been apparent in the short term of JD, he wants leaders and not locker room lawyers. Does not seem to be his type of player.

Sarge4Tide
Jets HAVE to claim him, he's on an expiring contract - if he sucks, so what, if he's good, try to re-sign him. Absolutely no downside of claiming him

jgb
If this dude shot his way out of Atlanta out of frustration from losing, he'll spray diarrhea all over the Jets locker room before tossing in a Molotov Cocktail.

He sent that out five days ago, the Falcons apparently tried to trade him and couldn't find any takers so let him go. Something isn't right, but what's the harm in adding him for 8 games unless they know he's got major issues behind the scenes?
GreenFish
Hard pass. Can’t be messing around with the tank. J/K. He’s worth a shot. I don’t know much about him though. But seems like a worthwhile gamble.

The fact that the last 3 picks were all team captains let you know that JD values that character quality. That Bell and Adams were summarily dismissed as soon as they went to social media, is also telling.

Oh I’d still go for him, I was just posting the tweet so people could see why he got released. We need edge rushers he’s worth a look
HessStation
Although doubtful McKinley, Williams, JFM and Zuniga could actually sound like a decent front four and if you put Cashman, Mosely, another solid mid round pick, behind that with Maye, Davis, Austin, nice FA behind that. Then QB: Lawrence WR: Mims WR: Seattle 1st round pick WR: Crowder TE: awesome FA RB: Perine LT: Becton LG: Clark OC: McGovern RG: awesome FA RT: Edoga
joewilly12
Sooner or later JD is going to have to start evaluating some these players being released and start bringing in and signing a few them this roster is the worst in the NFL and 1 off season of free agency and drafting isn't fixing a damn thing.

Mcckinley is an UFA after this season. Not sure what he can do for us this year.
Beerfish
If you are a bottom feeder you need to take a shot with a guy like this. You can't just have a team full of choir boys with lesser talent.

There’s no upside to signing him. You’re going to have an entirely new coaching staff next year, there’s no advantage to bringing him now. If he was unhappy in ATL, he’ll be downright miserable here. Hard pass.

You can get that from film. Many of the coaches that are here now, will not be next season.

If JD was manning the lifeboats on the Titanic, it would be women and children first... unless you were overhead saying something critical about the captain that just rammed into the iceberg.

No, as when you claim a player you're claiming him off his past contract. When he clear waivers is when you can then offer him a new contract with new language.
