NY Knicks Thread (2023-2024)

Knicks/Nets deal finally completed. Leon pulls it off & we are now $16.9 below 2nd apron if the reports that I am seeing are true. Including our MLTPE. Leon will be shopping for a trade now for a Center.

Knicks Summer League will warrant my attention as opposed to previous years. Roster hasn’t been announced yet, but this is probably how it will shake out with more to be added.

Very interested to see how Kolek leads the offense, Dadiet defends, McCullar shoots & Hukporti does protecting the rim & performs PNR with Kolek.

Jacob Toppin
Rokas Jokubaitus
Pacome Dadiet
Tyler Kolek
Kevin McCullar jr
Ariel Hukporti

No panic from Leon when signing a #2 Center. Roster is set until we approach the start of the season. SL we have a few big men auditioning for time behind Mitch. Precious given opportunity to find his value in FA & then see what Leon is willing to pay. JD can learn a few things from Leon.

Awesome job by Brunson, but Keep in mind that he essentially protects himself against catastrophic injury next season by getting a big raise NOW and will be eligible for another extensions when he is in his early 30s

There's a rumor tonight that Knicks are going to trade Randle , DiVecenzo and a 1st round pick for Karl-Anthony Towns. Now why would Minnesota make that deal? CBS Sports says trade is done.

there not the only ones saying it.

Wow.

Sucks losing Divo, but this is now the best Knicks starting lineup in my lifetime.

Great move IMO. A lot easier to find a depth SG than a great C.

PG: Brunson

SG: Bridges

SF: OG

PF: Hart

C:Towns

This is IMO the best starting 5 in the NBA.

There’s depth a PG in Miles. Depth at F in Precious. Mitch hopefully only misses a tiny bit of the start if the regular season. That’s arguably the best backup C in the NBA.

Only hole we have now IMO is a backup SG. I don’t think Payne is good enough to make us feel ok there when going to the bench. But maybe our system makes him better. Any in reality finding a scoring bench SG in this league isn’t difficult.

I think OG is the “PF” but agreed completely

Is it possible to say it was a bad trade for both teams?

We lose a chance to see a huge chemistry experiment in the Nova bunch. I think they would have played with a ton of energy that most teams wouldn't be able to touch - and chemistry is something critical in basketball, and hard to achieve. (Think of some of the Julius Erving 76er teams that had all star players and no chemistry and consistently lost in the playoffs.)

I think small ball lineups of the caliber that the Knicks could have put on the floor would have been a big challenge for most teams. I think Randle might have found the small ball center  role in that lineup a stimulating change. It's nothing that waiting for a couple of months into the season couldn't have hurt too much to see how it played out. I really liked Divo - I hate to see him go. He fit perfectly here.

Sure - Towns give the Knicks a shooting five option now. Will Thibs rework the offense for that? And then, mid game, all the guys on the floor will have to switch to another offense when Robinson comes in for Towns?

As for the T-Wolves ... Where is Ant Man going to drive to the hoop with Randle and Gobert occupying space down low? Divo will take pressure off of Edwards as a kick out option, but I don't know.

I don't like it. I was looking forward to a season of intrigue. Now, it just feels like one of those NYK front office **** ups, like trading Porzingis for dog meat, like letting Jeremy Lynn go, like trading half an emerging young team for Carmelo when waiting four months would have gotten him for nothing, etc.

I just don't think Randle fit in well with this current team. When he's been in the lineup he's been the main player on offense it went through him and that role would have been changed. They needed a top center like Towns he's a better fit for this team. Towns said he was completely surprised with this trade. He's never asked Minn to trade him in his years with the team. Also when Thibs was HC there there were some issues between them. But obviously Thibs on board with this trade. IMO the Knicks wanted to get rid of Randle anyways. Great trade.

I think the big issues I have with this are:

1) We still have 3 Nova guys. Brunson will still be playing with 2 of his college buddies. The Nova Knicks is a cool narrative, but at least on paper, the Knicks are better today than they were yesterday.

2) Thibs isn't a small ball guy and was never going to play that way

It would have beat the hell out of him for 3 months, and considering his injury history, I’d be worried.

They already have done repeated offensive changes while Mitch was out and Precious was playing small Center.

It’s a good trade that every GM would have done when emotion is removed and logic enters

KAT shoots the 3 better than Randle and opens up the pick & role with JB and gives JB room to operate

Kat is like the antithesis of how this team built but I guess it’s worth the dice roll.

Looking forward to seeing how this all comes together in camp. Nice depth across the board. Chemistry will be key.

Kolek backing up JB as a true distributor of the ball

Deuce stepping into the DD role as 3- pt & defensive specialist off bench

C- KAT  (Simms then Mitch)

SF- Bridges (Bates-Diop)

PF- OG ( Precious )

SG- Hart (Deuce)

PG- JB (Kolek)

(Backups)

Thibs will still probably stick with an 8 man rotation throughout the season. Maybe he’ll stretch it to 9 if Kolek shows defense and good ball movement.

It's a solid trade for both teams, and given the financials, the Knicks now ride with this squad for about next three years, and that's fine. On paper, this is the best team the Knicks have put on the floor since 93-94. KAT is one of if not the greatest 3-point big man ever and crazy efficient from the mid-range, so there is reason to be hopeful that the loss of Donte won't be too bad. That said I think the Knicks should open up the first 20 home games of the season with a Celine Dion soundtracked tribute to Donte every night, along with retiring his jersey and serving nothing but ragu at the concession stands.
