Jets were in on Keenan Allen (allegedly)

Recommended Posts

They’ve in a week have lost Eckler in FA, cut Williams and traded Allen.

No clue what they’re doing there besides trying to ruin Herbert’s career.
Weapinz? We don't need no stinkin' weapinz!

What they had clearly wasn’t working. Harbaugh has a long leash. Blowing the team up and building a Harbaugh team. Ekeler, Williams, and Allen wouldn’t have been around for the completed rebuild.

Allen comes with a cap hit that we can’t afford.  One that he refused to restructure if I remember correctly.

the jets can make more than 40 million in 2024 cap space if they want. they could afford him. That wasn't the problem. The problem was JD setting the price he was willing to pay to trade for him too low.

so the chargers have traded away or let walk almost 2000 rec yards in a week?

They're clearly going for a full rebuild with the new regime over trying to win now with expensive, aging players who were never able to get it done.

Meh. The Allen domino fell before Tyron Smith, and they were shocked he took their offer.

You're right in that YES we can manipulate the cap to “afford” any player, but there is a long-term strategy in play; one I’m not sure I would bend to get Allen who isn’t exactly the pinnacle of health.

Really just the ol and qb are old.  And if it works they’ll look to bring in another qb after Rodgers is gone.

For sure

it’s important to note that just because they could have moved money around for Allen, doesn’t mean they should have. He’s 31 and is currently working on a longer term contract extension with the Bears.

It’s understandable if they were hesitant to trade for Allen and extend him on a big contract when they were planning on taking a WR at 10, anyway.

I am of the opinion that they should be doing whatever it takes to win this year and maybe next. We need a serious upgrade to the WR corps and Allen would have been just that. How many opportunities to upgrade WR #2 is JD going to pass/miss on? What's the point of getting Aaron Rodgers and then running the team for the long term? Either go for it and try to win now or take the long term approach to try and build a long term winner.

Half measures will get us neither.
