One more reason to hate the NFL and the joke that it has become. A Tenth of a million dollars for A HAT? I don't care what you say, it's absurd.

A violation during the regular season is $10,000. It is $50,000 at the Pro Bowl.

Are they implying that more people watch the pro-bowl than a regular season game? I realize there is only one probowl per year, and hundereds of games, but who actually watched that crap? 50k for wrong apparel is a joke, 50k for wrong apparel in the pro bowl is just stupid.

One more reason the NFL has become unbearable to follow.

When a coach has to get Reebok to make a suit for him to wear on the sideline because he can't wear his Sunday's Best as it's not made by a sponsor, there's a problem.

This is the epitome of how commercialized and pathetic the NFL has become.

While 1/2 the league us getting arrested for shootings, drunk driving and everything else, Urlacher, a pretty stand up guy, gets this?

Goodell can lick my sack.

It does seem a little harsh, but it does seem that Urlacher was actively advertising Vitamin by not only drinking it but wearing a hat. There are surely nicer things to wear than a hat with the name of a bottle of water on it.

He knows the rules (or he should) and he broke them...

NFL sponsors invest a TON of money so that we can have the NFL... to bitch and moan about this is stupid...

If you forked over millions in advertising you wouldnt want your competitor to get some for free... lighten up and look at the way this all works GOB...

yes 100k is steep but it was the super bowl

people maybe saw that hat in Africa and China, wherever... it's the biggest stage and if the NFL doesn't protect that the advertising loses value. One has to believe gatorade/pepsi was on NFL's @$$ about this. the players union will likely appeal and Urlacher won't pay 100k, but the headlines will serve as a warning.

Albert Haynesworth stomping on an opposing players head, and opening a wound, thus forcing him to wear 30 stitches, $190,000

Tyler Brayton blatanly kneeing an opposing player in the groin, $25,000

Brian Urlacher sliding a hat on his head that isn't sponsored by/created by the NFL, $100,000

Let's see, so when a guy stomps on another guy's head, it is nearly equal to a guy wearing a hat he wants to wear that, from my knowledge wasn't innappropriate.

A guy blatantly and directly kneeing an opponent in the groin, setting a horrible example for young ball players, is only 1/4 as serious as a guy wearing his choice of hat.

Shadow does have a point, there is no way the interests of commercialism should be on the same level as safety. The head stomping dudes got fined too little and urlacher was fined way too much. The thing is, urlacher probably got more then 100k from vitamin water anyway.

Finally someone can get around the numbers and see my point, unlike some d-bags.

Urlacher knows the rules. He broke them.

The NFL has to protect the sponsors that pay them millions of dollars a year to be the Official "soft drink, beer, furniture store, etc" of the NFL.

He knew what he was doing, as did his sponsor. Urlacher will not lose any money in this.

I believe it is called a taint, but anyway, the dude probably walks away with at least a couple hundred thou from vitamin water no reason to make a stink about it.

Rules are rules mate and Urlacher broke them on purpose for his and his sponsors financial gain.

The 100K is nothing.

Have you ever had vitamin water? A friend of mine is a salesman for them and used to bring cases of the stuff down to practice where we would chug it down.

Needless to say the stuff should be placed on the laxative shelf at your local CVS!

Most of the flavors are terrible, Orange is the only one I could stomach.

When I get outta practice, or anywhere where I play sports, I will drink anything,(no homo) that isn't piss/sperm/or blood.

It's alright if you like to touch men's butts. No one's going to hold it against you. Then again, no one's gonna hold it for you (pun definitely intended).

Bitonti and Gainzo are right. If the NFL only fined players $10,000 any joe schmo company would easily pay players double or triple that and get world wide product placement. The fine has to be big b/c it's not truly intended for the player but for the company. Hell I'm surprised it's only $100,000.

Gimme a break ecurb, it's a freakin hat. Getting fined 100K for wearing a hat is utterly absurd and there's no excuse that can be made for that. This is why it's called the No Fun League, you're not even allowed to wear any kind of hat. F*cking ridiculous.
