If he had stayed in school, this would have been Maybin's rookie season. Still early to give up on the guy.

kinda agree with this, and interested to see how rex uses him..

I'm not too familiar with him though, Gholston didn't look like a football player from day 1.. is this kid like that?

He has shown some of those same tendencies. Does not like to play in traffic and can not get off blocks .

How often does a complete bust suddenly "get it?" It never happens...this is a waste.

Well, you need to have some perspective though here. How often do really bad teams let go of "busts" only to see them get better on a good team?

I mean it is the Bills. There's a chance that he doesn't suck as much as the Bills made him look?

Maybe we get real lucky and Rex can make him a player

One thing we've learned about Rex is he likes taking on these "project' players with the hope that he can do something with them. It's a fine trait to have and one which I believe enamours him with ALL NFL players. He tried it with Gholston, remember he named him the starter as soon as he heard that Pace would be suspended the first 4 games, and then he tried it this summer by talking up Jamaal Westermann by saying he was going to be the designated pass rusher but after seeing him not even make an impact even against the 3rd team Texans maybe he's about to give up on that lost cause and needs Maybin for his new plaything/project.

That works with running backs with bad lines and WR's with crappy QB's.

228lbs... Can he play safety?

In all seriousness, I hope the jets staff can diagnose some kind of metabolism disorder, get him to a legitimate weight, and see what he can do.

Reminds me of when everyone thought cedric houston was an out of shape slob when really he had a thyroid disorder.

Robert Sciarrino/The Star-LedgerRex Ryan's club will give Aaron Maybin a chance to revive his career.

Former No. 11 overall pick Aaron Maybin has reached an agreement in principle with the Jets and is expected to sign today, so long as he passes his physical, a person with direct knowledge of the agreement confirmed. That person requested anonymity because the team has not yet announced the move.

ESPN New York first reported that Maybin is headed to the Jets.

The third-year player out of Penn State was cut by Buffalo earlier this week. The Jets were one of a handful of teams who expressed interest in him, and he was expected to make a decision by today.

Maybin was viewed as a pass-rush specialist but had not yet recorded a sack in his professional career. He now will have a chance to revive his career in coach Rex Ryan's defensive scheme.

Finally we have somebody to fill the Vernon Gholston role.

In all honesty it is worth a look. Very low risk and while there will most likely be no reward you never know what a change of scenery, being part of a legit D, and having a legit D minded head coach can do to a youngster like this.

I would be willing to bet the minimum . The jets know defensive players love to play for Rex but I dont know about this guy...Shouldnt we be saving cash for back up O-Lineman that come available ?

This signing was to get the heat off of Vlad. There is someone more worthy of our scorn on the roster now. :P

I dont see how you can judge this guy based on his very short stint in the NFL. Lets let Rex decide if hes worthy of a roster spot or not.

He got burnt for a TD over committing... then in his "DPR" role... he just didn't... he really fell WAY short of expectations...

how about letting Houston complete the same stupid pass over and over and over again to the RB w/o making adjustments?

That is not supposed to be his game to be fair... but it's not like he was getting to the QB either...
