CTM
Didn't see this post anywhere: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/02/01/victor-cruz-came-close-to-getting-cut-in-2010/ According to Mara, Giants fans have Rex Ryan to thank for Cruz making it through the final cut. Cruz scored three touchdown passes to spice up an otherwise unmemorable preseason game between the Giants and Jets in the summer of 2010 and Ryan raved about him after the game. The voluble Jets coach went so far as to say he hoped the Giants cut him so that the Jets could pick him up. That helped the Giants make the decision to keep him because they felt sure that Cruz wouldn’t clear waivers and make it to their practice squad. Ryan’s mouth hasn’t made him too popular with Giants fans over the last three years, but this is one instance where it seems his inability to keep his thoughts to himself worked out to their satisfaction. Matt39
not deadspin This was on Deadspin before...its a non story. Cruz didnt even play last season and the Giants kept him. He had a bad training camp this year and still kept him. Obviously, someone within the Giants camp liked him enough regardless of what Rex said. Matt39
mara said it himself.. http://www.nj.com/gi...ose_to_sur.html yeah, non story essentially. The Giants right now are in the business of making the Jets look like fools. They kept Cruz because they thought he was good enough, not because Rex Ryan liked him. Mara also called the Jets game the biggest game in franchise history.

Matt39
Tisch said that, not Mara, and he was talking about regular season games. When they win the SB this Sunday he may end up being right. Saying one game....or even how the media is driving this(the Cruz play) somehow ignited this Giants playoff run is beyond absurd. The Giants got healthy. Saying the Jets are responsible for this is laughable.

In 2007 they said that the Pats-Giants regular season finale ignited their SB run. The Giants draft extremely well and have the two most important positions filled- QB and pass rush. They have a chance every season if their heads are on straight. Maybe the Jets made them more focused, but talent is the biggest reason they're playing for their second championship in 4 years. The story is that if Rex had kept his mouth shut, we might of signed him And he'd probably currently own the depth chart spot right behind Patrick Turner. Even if Rex's big mouth was actually the difference, it doesn't mean Cruz would have done jack sh*t as a Jet.
