How is the Detroit media handling Jim Schwartz?

Not for nothing but the Lions, who allegedly have a ton more talent than the Jets, went 4-12 (two wins worse than the Jets) last year despite their best player having a career year.

I don't hear the national media having a field day at his expense so I was wondering if anyone knows how the local media is handling that situation?

Man you're jackass.

I understand how it works. I just find it amusing and annoying. Much like I find you.

So the purpose of this thread was to what? Point out the fact that Rex is a bombastic ass who the media loved to seek out for a quote and now is enjoying even more so his fall? Just like every bombastic ass that came before him..

All you are doing here is pointing out that Rex is an ass and is reaping what he sowed

I don't know about the purpose of the thread and I don't care about the media, but would Shane be so fired up if we were Lions fans and had Schwartz?  I tend to think that he would. Shane is a genuine hater, but I think he'd be even more emo if he were forced to live in Detroit.  At least we could send Guns over to beat him periodically.

I think the media should be careful what they wish for.

If Rex gets run out of town, Idzik is likely to hire a head coach who shares his philosophy with the media - which seems to be "**** 'em, let them actually work for a living." Their jobs are gonna get a lot harder with Rex gone in other words.

As one of the resident Michigan-types I'll chime in.  But I probably don't speak for everyone over here.

To me, the Lions are sort of the Jets' polar opposite.  All offense, no defense, winning games 45-30.  The locals will probably be up in arms if this year is a flop, but expectations have been so low for so long that 8-8 is probably ok.

For this year, I think if the defense improves, the team should be great.   ..but we'll see.

Edit:  and yeah, it probably helps that Schwartz doesn't talk much crap to the media.

You mean someone like Coughlin? Boy, has that sucked for the Giants. Bet they wish they had never done that.

EDIT-Klacko-Why do you care what the media says so much?

Mostly I'm just venting because the media has made following the Jets not fun so far this year. It's gets real old real fast to read nothing but negative articles about your team.

The reality is that Coughlin, while buttoned down and not very forthcoming with the media, actually gave them plenty to write about early on with his hard assed ways which included fining vets for being on time for meetings.

Does anyone live in Detroit anymore?

I know you're just kidding around, but how many people at the Meadowlands on Sunday live in Manhattan?

Downtown Detroit has some nice places to visit (stadium district and Greektown) but most fans probably come from the outer suburbs.

please. Coughlin not speaking to the media has nothing to do with how the Giants vs. the Jets are portrayed by the media. Coughlin not speaking to the media also didn't stop them/fans from trying to run him out of town twice.

Do you approve of the job Jim Schwartz is doing as head coach of the Detroit Lions? Vote now.

Our next series of approval ratings has arrived. Before the regular season begins, I want to see what you guys have to say about various Detroit Lions coaches and their general manager. Let's start with the head coach himself: Jim Schwartz.

The last approval rating poll we did for Schwartz was back in June. He actually got a 58 percent approval rating, which was a stark contrast to the poll that favored his firing at the end of the 2012 season.

But that's in the past. As we get ready for the start of the 2013 season, what do you think of the job Schwartz is doing as head coach of the Lions? Do you approve of it? Do you disapprove of it? Are you not sure? Vote now in the poll below and leave your thoughts in the comments.

Poll
Do you approve of the job Jim Schwartz is doing as head coach of the Lions?
  • 50% Yes (673 votes)

  • 25% No (341 votes)

  • 25% Unsure (339 votes)

1353 votes total

Wow a 50% approval rating.  He was 58% in June.

That's actually pretty good.

If it was 50% for you, 50% against you, that would be different.  Even 50% for, 45% against with 5% unsure means you're not that popular.

But if 50% like you and only 25% think you ought to go, that's doing pretty well.

It would be interesting to see what his numbers would look like if the media were using him as a pinata.

It is pretty amazing.

Just out of curiosity I went through 2 days of media reports for Detroit.  All they are talking about is Ansah's injury, and a few fluff articles about Reggie Bush.

Not a single negative article about Schwartz.   No wonder these rubes are working in the bush.  They just don't know how to exploit anonymous make believe sources

These % dont mean much when you realize that only 4 lions fans voted.

2 for

1 against

1 not sure

Yeah and the media loved him for it when he did.

Wrong, the media never loved him. They rolled along with him because at the time pro-Rex sentiment was almost 100% in the fan base - now that that number is closer to 40%, the media are just shifting to the anti-Rex sentiment.

They are sharks, they don't have emotions, all they do is swim to where they smell blood.

And here I was thinking that it was the empty proclamations of greatness and inability to field an NFL-caliber offense that made following this team "not so fun."

At least we'll always have hose back-to-back AFC Chmpionship Games to reminisce about. The media can't take hat from us!
