As bad as the New York Jets were in their 34-13 loss to the division rival Miami Dolphins, Pro Football Focus handed out their top grades for Jets players on offense and defense, but had some choice words for Jets safety Calvin Pryor.

On offense, several of the top grades for Gang Green came along the offensive line with Wesley Johnson, James Carpenter and Dakota Dozier, who played limited reps, to go along with Bilal Powell and rookie wide receiver Robby Anderson.

This is a second consecutive strong outing for Johnson, who was the Jets top performer on offense last week against the 49ers, according to PFF.

Top offensive grades:

HB Bilal Powell, 85.6
LG James Carpenter, 80.6
C Wesley Johnson, 72.0
G Dakota Dozier, 89.7
WR Robby Anderson, 68.5

On defense, four of the five top performers were linemen in Sheldon Richardson, Leonard Williams, Deon Simon and Muhammad Wilkerson.  First round draft choice Darron Lee was the only non-lineman to make the top 5.

Top defensive grades:

DT Sheldon Richardson, 81.6
DT Leonard Williams, 78.7
DT Deon Simon, 76.0
LB Darron Lee, 74.5
DE Muhammad Wilkerson, 74.4

PFF wrapped up their coverage by laying in to Jets safety Calvin Pryor who continues to struggle in the open field despite having almost three full pro seasons under his belt.

See for yourself:

Calvin Pryor a liability

Pryor, the Jets former first-round safety was an absolute mess with his pursuit angles against the shifty Dolphins receivers. He started by overrunning a dig route to DeVante Parker on a key third down on the Dolphins first scoring drive. Then he fell on his face on yet another route coming across this middle, this time from Jarvis Landry, on a 31-yard catch and run on the Dolphins first scoring drive in the third quarter. Pryor capped it off by being unable to chase down Landry again running a slant across his face when he was playing middle of the field safety.

Pryor, the former first-round draft choice of ex-Jets GM John Idzik isn’t making a very strong case for himself if he was hoping to have his fifth-year option picked up in the not-so-distant future.

Tough to trust a site that ranked 3/5 of the OL to be top performers...

The OL was fine. Both backs rushed for over 5 YPC. They would have looked even better if Petty wasn't a big dumb idiot who stood there waiting to get sacked every play.

Serious question...what's your assessment of Pryor?

Pryor is a real problem.  If he wasn't a 1st rd pick he would have been benched and / or cut a long time ago.

The problem that the Jets face is there are too many players like Pryor and you can't cut them all.   With 6 draft picks, no set QB, limited cap space, and a suspect draft history how are the Jets supposed to plug all of these holes?

All good points with the exception of cap space.  If they decide to clean house, they could easily have over $60 million available.

I wonder if they could move Burris to safety?   he looks like a safety and may not have the speed to play CB.

Some scouting reports had Burris moving to safety in the pros. If he can do it, he would be a nice in house replacement for Gilchrist, who may get cut.

After 3 seasons, I think we can safely say that Calvin Pryor is a disappointment. I'm not sure if there would be any drop off in production if we played Miles (an undrafted FA) over Pryor.

This is what we hauled in the first 2 rounds during the Idzik years:

2013: Milliner, Sheldon, Geno.

2014: Pryor, Amaro

By 2018, there is a good chance none of these players will be on the team. This is why we suck.

I mentioned that in an article earlier this season.  He played a bit of safety in college and Mac was asked about it after the Jets drafted him, but said they envisioned him as a CB.  Could see him there eventually.

So you watched that game last night and came away with the "The OL was fine"?  The OL on this team is a way bigger problem than Pryor.

Yes, I think the OL is fine. Fitzpatrick has been sacked on 4.8% of his dropbacks this season. Petty has been sacked on 7.8% of his. This isn't rocket science.

Pryor was not a good pick there.  The pick was Ha Ha.

Pryor was decent last year, but he has been scouting.

The biggest problem with the secondary and the OL is scheme and coaching.  Someone will sign Pryor for a reasonable amount and he will be decent.  He needs to be paired with a pure cover safety, like a McCourty or even Gilcrist last year.  He needs to be already looking forward.

This organization is a mess.

I was going to ask if whomever graded that "performance" was on crack.

The OL sucked

The DL sucked as did the rest of the over paid underachievers on that unit

The entire team except Bilal sucked.

The CS is clueless challenging things that are unwinnable, not protecting his rookie QB against a ferocious pass rush, kicking FG's down 34-10 with 5 minutes to go in the game, then kicking off deep into the EZ. What, did Bowltite think they were still in the first quarter?

We are the worst team in the NFL, yes, even worse than the 49'ers and Browns IMO (at least they put forth effort, they just have no talent - this pile of garbage supposedly has talent - LOL)

Have a nice day LOL.

The O-line had some horrible breakdowns, but they don't weigh bad plays more than good plays.

If the RB went for 5 YPC and some of the sacks were on Petty, the O-line wasn't to blame on all of them.

Not sure why they continue to play Pryor at Free Safety, I thought they learned this lesson last year after Sluggers disappointing rookie year where Rex played him at FS, Bowles was smarted, did he regress or do we have a log jam of players at SS?

I'd rather see MIddleton at FS and 'Tez at SS.

Injuries. Gilchrist is injured who plays free and makes all the secondary calls. So Pryor has to play where he's not as comfortable and the other starter is a UDFA with limited starts and experience. Breakdowns will happen.

Limited experience QB, rookie RT, C and LT with limited starting experience. Breakdowns will happen with pass protection. Run blocking is different which showed. Powell doesn't produce like that without the O line playing well.

Hope Middleton does enough in practice to play more. Measurables are high and hope they translate.

Half the Oline that Fitz has played with is now missing
