Jets Decision to Waive Pryor a Curious one

Maybe being hurt after losing us a couple games because of the drops and giving up on plays didn't go over well with complaining that the franchise qtr back sucks and wasn't getting him the ball. Yeah go figure they let him go. Guy is stupid. On top of all of that he isn't actually anything more than a JAG.

Good riddance.

Sam is a rookie...playing with average players or rookies and Cousins is a 30 million dollar QB with Theilen, Diggs & Rudolph + a good defense.

Vikings SHOULD kill us. If Sam & this Jet team can pull this out what does that say about paying Cousins 30 million dollars? Hence the applause for choosing the Vikings.

5 catches and a TD last week.  Generally speaking those are JAG numbers.

I'm guessing that it has something to do with his comments a few weeks back that he's "a big play waiting to happen" and that he should be more involved in the offense.

I'm guessing that his comments was an indication that he was a malcontent in the locker room and the organization, but that's just a guess at this point. He's made plenty of plays to warrant being kept so I'm guessing there was a behind the scenes attitude issue.

SNY said as much last night on their report.  Said hes been a pain complaining that hes not happy with his role on the team and that he wants to be the number one WR.

One, zero and one the three weeks before.  14 on the season after six.

Pretty much any jag they pick up could give them the same production he gives a team, without the whining for the ball.

He not good enough to get this much debate and complaining about his release

I just said a lot in my other reply to you so I won't repeat a lot of it here other than to say he was on the right side of progress. Coming out and having his production early with a drop off would be negative. Coming out slow and getting more involved each week is a major positive. That's exactly what you want to see throughout the season. Especially after basically not having a training camp.

He had 4 catches in a game and then went 1, 0 & 1.  Yeah, bumped up to 5 catches when Enunwa went out and they were down to 3 WRs, hardly progress.  Hardly a trend.

Hes had 14 catches over 6 games, we didnt lose a lot here.  We're making far to much over a jag being cut.  Whos injured.  One with an attitude, at best

I think Bowles has final say on his roster. Pryor's $5m contract is fully guaranteed whether we kept or cut him. Don't know what (if any) offset language there is, but if he signs elsewhere I doubt it's for more than the amortized league minimum (~$57K/game for him). Cap space isn't an issue for the Jets, but that doesn't therefore make it meaningless to throw away $3m (or $5m) that could have been put towards another player.

What's really the head-scratcher is them saying he could be back after he's healed (unless it's 100% bull).

If he's been causing problems in the locker room - never mind the rookie QB's huddle - or if he's been doing poorly in ways we can't readily see (when the ball isn't thrown his way), then I totally agree with tossing him.

On the other hand, if it's really over an expected ~2-week injury, but they'd otherwise deem him a valuable receiver for Darnold, then it makes little sense. There are others more expendable IMO, if they'd actually want him back in 2 weeks, but then I'm not of the opinion this is a serious SB contender and this season is all about Darnold. If he helps Darnold even a little bit, then find another cut even if it makes the overall team a little weaker there (e.g. Peake, if it had to nominally had to be a WR they want to cut to hang onto Pryor). And if, by mid-October, it's deemed that Pryor isn't worth hanging onto for 2 weeks on the DL, then they had no business letting him make the final cuts. Or at a minimum, put ol' Tannenbaum Kellen-Clemens-squeeze on him last minute to knock off a couple million; no one else was guaranteeing him $3m as final cuts were made.

good points all.  pryor might just have a bit of a mouth and bowles doesn't want his team influenced.  could be a good move.  they probably said he could come back in a couple of weeks if healed.  they know he won't be.  pryor needs to move on.

I'm guessing that he may need surgery as that has yet to be determined. That means two weeks than possible surgery. I'm not sure if they could possibly retroactive him IR but that's like what six weeks? Not sure..
