If you look at some of the teams that are being successful, NE- Gronk. KC- Kelce, SF- Kittle, Eagles- Ertz. Huge offensive weapons. Name the last star, tight end, the Jets had? Nothing but adequate at best. Some of the ones we had, had huge potential, but the wrong system. With those guys(above mentioned), if we had someone as good as those we would not have to depend so heavily on WR.

I still have hopes for Herndon.  And as a tandem, Griffin/Herndon is actually going to be very good compared to the rest of the league. 

But yeah, we kind of had to kick the can a bit in terms of searching for an elite TE this offseason.  Maybe in the 2021 draft we'll upgrade the TE group.

Out of all the strange things about last season, the one that sticks out the most to me is that everyone seems to forget how good Griffin was until he went down. He's legit AF. If he stays healthy he might be their top guy this year.

Barring injuries, our depth is fine.  I think the quality is as well.

in order to use te's the team needs the scheming to use them.  and if they can't pass protect then it's that much harder since they may have to keep the te in to block.  imo fixing the oline will do wonders for freeing up the te's.

if Herndon is also legit this will be good... Sam's intermediate accuracy is a source of hope, imho

TE is shaky, Griffin is coming off a bad injury, herndon was pretty unreliable.  That tandem has the potential to be good but we are far from set there.

If they’re healthy and not drunk Herndon and Griffin make for a good combo. Brown is meh player but solid depth and Wesco came on as a blocker last season. I think we’re fine.

They each individually have their issues of course, but as far as TE duos across the league go, there are only a few that I like better than ours:

• Eagles:  Zach Ertz/Dallas Goedert
• Chiefs:  Travis Kelce/whoever
• 49ers:  George Kittle/whoever
• Raiders:  Darren Waller/Jason Witten

yeah, like most position groups on this team, we have some potential at the TE spot ... we need the ands/ifs/buts to turn out in our favor though

If you pair Darnold up with a great TE both will elevate each other’s game to another level since he consistently will target them. Daniel Brown was getting targeted more than he probably should have last year and you go back to his RS freshman year at USC he made Daniel Imatorbhebhe a legit NFL TE prospect.

Herndon looked very good his rookie season. If he can build on that this year it will be a big deal.

Hoping for  a big year from Herndon.

 

Griffin is a good #2 but he isnt a #1 and he doesn't scare anybody.

 

If Herndon can break out than we have solid duo and it would go a very long way for Darnold.
